Bullous pemphigoid after second dose of mRNA- (Pfizer-BioNTech) Covid-19 vaccine: A case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Messenger RNA vaccines, commonly known as mRNA vaccines, are the first COVID-19 vaccines that have been authorized and licensed in the United States. Two mRNA vaccines, BNT162b2 (Pfizer-BioNTech) and mRNA-1273 (Moderna) are available. Mass vaccination remains the most critical way to halt the spread of the COVID pandemic. The most common adverse effects of the COVID vaccines are headache, muscular soreness, weariness, redness, swelling, and tenderness at the injection site. The dermatological adverse effects of mRNA vaccines, on the other hand, are little understoo

Antimicrobial resistance profile of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases, adenosine-monophosphate-cyclic, and carbapenemase-producing Gram-negative bacteria isolated from domestic animals.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: The production of beta-lactamase enzymes, such as extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL), adenosine-monophosphate-cyclic (AmpC), and Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC), is one of the most important mechanisms of bacterial resistance to antimicrobials. Gram-negative bacteria show significant resistance due to various intrinsic and acquired factors. These intrinsic factors include low permeability of the outer membrane, various efflux systems, and the production of beta-lactamases, while acquired factors include chromosomal mutation and acquisition of resistance genes

[Accurate diagnosis of Pseudomonas luteola in routine microbiology laboratory: on the occasion of two isolates].

Pseudomonas luteola which was previously known as Chryseomonas luteola; is a gram-negative, non-fermentative, aerobic, motile, non-spore-forming bacillus. It is frequently found as a saprophyte in soil, water and other damp environments and is an opportunistic pathogen in patients with underlying medical disorders or with indwelling catheters. It has been reported as an uncommon cause of bacteremia, sepsis, septic arthritis, meningitis, endocarditis, and peritonitis. Thus, early and accurate identification of this rare species is important for the treatment and also to provide information abou

Bacteriological Profile of Diabetic Foot Ulcer With Special Reference to Biofilm Formation.

Introduction Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by abnormally high sugar levels in the blood for prolonged periods of time. The world's largest number of diabetics resides in India, making it the world's diabetic capital, with a diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) incidence of around 8-17%. Due to the polymicrobial and multidrug resistant (MDR) nature of DFUs, antimicrobial susceptibility testing is of high importance to help treat patients effectively and prevent the development of MDR bacteria. The ability to form biofilms is a significant additive to virulence of an organism that

[Is there a relationship between rectal colonization and nosocomial infection of patients in intensive care unit?].

Nosocomial infections caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR) microorganisms are a major problem in intensive care units (ICUs) with high mortality and morbidity rates and the prior colonization is an important risk factor for these infections. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of rectal colonization of MDR microorganisms and the association between the microorganisms that caused colonization and infection in the patients with nosocomial infections in ICUs. Rectal swabs were obtained on the day of 0, 3, 7, 14, 21 and weekly thereafter from 80 patients over 18 years of age hos

Optimisation of empirical antimicrobial therapy in patients with haematological malignancies and febrile neutropenia (How Long study): an open-label, randomised, controlled phase 4 trial.

BACKGROUND: Continuation of empirical antimicrobial therapy (EAT) for febrile neutropenia in patients with haematological malignancies until neutrophil recovery could prolong the therapy unnecessarily. We aimed to establish whether EAT discontinuation driven by a clinical approach regardless of neutrophil recovery would optimise the duration of therapy. METHODS: We did an investigator-driven, superiority, open-label, randomised, controlled phase 4 clinical trial in six academic hospitals in Spain. Eligible patients were adults with haematological malignancies or haemopoietic stem-cell transpl

[Comparison of the modified Hodge test and the Carba NP test for detection of carbapenemases in Enterobacteriaceae isolates].

A rapid, practical, and accurate identification of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae isolates is crucial for the implementation of appropriate infection control measures and proper treatment of the infections. For this purpose, a large number of phenotypic test methods have been developed, although none has 100% sensitivity and specificity. Variations in sensitivity and specificity of these tests based on the type of beta-lactamase enzymes carried by that isolates might result in differences between regions and countries. The aim of this study was to compare the performances of widely
