MR in squamous cell carcinoma of the lacrimal sac.

A case of squamous cell carcinoma arising from the right lacrimal sac is presented. MR T2-weighted images showed a mass of low signal intensity in the right medial canthus extending into the nasolacrimal duct. This led us to postulate a high-grade malignant neoplasm arising in the lacrimal sac.

Removal of Foreign Bodies in Orbit-Zygomatic-Maxillary Complex.

Trauma is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Due to its anatomy and position in the facial skeleton, the orbit becomes a region susceptible to trauma which may also involve the penetration of foreign bodies (FBs). These events can have serious repercussions depending on their extent due to the proximity of the orbit with other noble structures of the face and skull. Because of this, a system of prehospital management of traumas must be established, in order to promote a better prognosis for patients. The present study aims to report the case of a patient suffering from a motorcycle

Understanding the science of fungal endophthalmitis - AIOS 2021 Sengamedu Srinivas Badrinath Endowment Lecture.

Fungal endophthalmitis is a potentially blinding condition. It is more often reported from Asia, including India. The incidence is lower than bacterial endophthalmitis. But it is relatively more challenging to treat than bacterial endophthalmitis. Many eyes may need therapeutic keratoplasty and/or evisceration. The current mainstays of treatment are vitrectomy irrespective of the presenting vision, intravitreal antifungal agents, and systemic therapy; additionally, the patients could require prolonged treatment with repeat vitreous surgeries and intravitreal injections. Difficulty in clinical

Pseudomonas aeruginosa endophthalmitis in a preterm infant.

Bacterial endophthalmitis is rare in the neonatal period. It occurs in susceptible individuals such as preterm infants. Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a Gram-negative bacillus, has been identified as the causative organism in more than 75% of invasive neonatal eye infections. The source may be endogenous; secondary to septicemia or exogenous, including reports of nosocomial infections and those infections arising from the birth canal. We report the case of a preterm infant who developed pseudomonas endophthalmitis, septicemia, and meningitis after a corneal abrasion.

Exophiala dermatitidis Eye Infection: Case Report and Literature Review.

Exophiala endophthalmitis of exogenous origin is an exceptionally rare but severe ocular infection, characterized by diagnostic delays, limited therapeutic guidance, and frequently poor outcomes. Herein, we report one new case of an 80-year-old woman who presented with severe fungal keratitis progressing to endophthalmitis two years after an uncomplicated cataract surgery. The condition was initially misdiagnosed and treated with topical antibiotics and corticosteroids. By cultivation, microscopy, histopathological, and PCR analysis of the samples, Exophiala dermatitidis was identified as the

Total anomalous pulmonary venous connection : Autopsy considerations.

Total anomalous pulmonary venous connection (TAPVC), where the pulmonary venous circulation drains into the systemic venous circulation rather than into the left atrium, may present a number of problems at autopsy. A 5-week-old infant is reported who died suddenly and unexpectedly who was found at autopsy to have infradiaphragmatic TAPVC into the portal vein. The only associated anomalies were a tri-lobed left lung, a patent ductus arteriosus, and drainage of the inferior vena cava into the both the right and left atria. This case demonstrates particular features that may lead to difficulties
