BACKGROUND: Febrile urinary tract infections (UTIs) include a spectrum of pathologies from uncomplicated pyelonephritis to urosepsis, including xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XGP). Most febrile UTIs are treated with antibiotics alone, but studies indicate nearly 12% of cases of presumed simple pyelonephritis require emergent urologic intervention. This article reviews the computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features of renal tuberculosis (TB), including TB in transplant recipients and immunocompromised patients. Multi detector computed tomography (MDCT) forms the mainstay of cross-sectional imaging in renal TB. It can easily identify calcification, renal scars, mass lesions, and urothelial thickening. OBJECTIVE: To present our experience to describe diagnosis and management of symptomatic ureteric stones during pregnancy.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty-six pregnant women with symptomatic ureteric stones were evaluated in this study. The diagnosis was done by history, physical examination, symptoms, signs, ultrasonography, or ureteroscopy if needed. Initially, conservative management was performed on all patients. When conservative treatment failed, temporizing therapies (double-J stenting or percutaneous nephrostomy [PCN]) and (ureteroscopic lithotripsy) URSL were performed on the patients.

METHODS: We reviewed the records of 54 (31 females, 23 males) of 62 patients with polycystic renal disease that had been treated at our center from 1951 to 1994. OBJECTIVE: To assess the accuracy and benefit of urgent bedside ultrasound scanning in urological emergencies by urology trainees.
METHODS: In this prospective study, 111 patients (86 acute flank pain, 15 renal failure, 10 haematuria) referred as urological emergencies, were scanned for urinary tract abnormalities at the bedside, by a trainee urologist, over 18 months. We were interested in the efficacy and morbidity of the ureteroscopy (URS) in the treatment of "steinstrasse" after ESWL. From 1991 to 1996, 27 patients with "steinstrasse" were treated with a total of 32 ureteroscopic procedures. The URS alone had a stonefree success rate of 43.7% (n = 14). URS combined with ESWL was effective in 43.7% (n = 14), leading to an overall success rate of 87.4%.
