Various materials have been used to prevent or minimize ridge collapse after tooth extraction in an attempt to improve implant placement. The bone graft material used for filling bone defects after tooth extraction is a controversial topic. This is especially so if there is an apical lesion at the site of the natural tooth. A patient who presented with a retained root and apical lesion was treated with bone grafting as a staged implant placement. Histological analysis of a biopsy done 6 months after grafting revealed good healing with mature bone. Histomorphometric evaluation showed 39.4% bony

This study aimed to evaluate by the intra-osseous implant technique the most commonly used materials for pulp therapy in pediatric dentistry: calcium hydroxide (CH), Guedes Pinto paste and CTZ paste, according to FDI (1980) and ANSI/ADA (1982) recommendations. Thirty guinea pigs, 10 for each material, divided into experimental periods of 4 and 12 weeks received one implant on each side of the lower jaw symphysis. The external lateral tube wall served as control for the technique. At the end of the observation periods, the animals were euthanized and specimens were prepared for routine histolog

BACKGROUND: Coronal pulpotomy (CP) has commonly been used after vital pulp exposure in deeply carious primary molars, although some concerns remain regarding unnecessary pulp removal and procedural morbidity. With the increasing use of calcium silicate cements (CSCs), more conservative vital pulp therapies, such as direct pulp capping (DPC) and partial pulpotomy (PP), have received growing attention. However, direct comparative clinical evidence between these approaches in primary molars is limited. Accordingly, this study sought to compare the cumulative survival probabilities of DPC and PP u

RATIONALE: Ameloblastomas are benign odontogenic tumors that exhibit local aggressiveness and a high potential for recurrence. Their histopathological diversity and potential to cause significant anatomical and functional complications often make diagnosis and treatment challenging. This case highlights the clinical, radiographic, and histopathological features of a rare granular cell ameloblastoma and underscores the importance of a radical surgical approach to management.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 46-year-old female was referred to the Outpatient Department with a complaint of swelling on the rig

BACKGROUND: Applying a pharmacological substance to provide appropriate anchorage is a simple procedure that does not depend on the patient, does not irritate the soft tissue inside or outside the mouth, is accepted by the patient aesthetically, and has a lower cost than anchorage devices. Bisphosphonates (BPs) have been suggested in the orthodontic literature for anchorage, but there is little evidence regarding their effectiveness.
OBJECTIVES: This systematic review aimed to assess the quality of evidence from animal research that demonstrated how bisphosphonate, when administered locally a

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to analyze the time-dependent in-vitro behavior of the periodontal ligament (PDL) by determining the material parameters using specimens of porcine jawbone. Time-dependent material parameters to be determined were expected to complement the results from earlier biomechanical studies.
METHODS: Five mandibular deciduous porcine premolars were analyzed in a combined experimental-numeric study. After selecting suitable specimens (excluding root resorption) and preparing the measurement system, the specimens were deflected by a distance of 0.2 mm at loading

BACKGROUND: Teeth that have suffered trauma can fuse to the surrounding bone in a process called dental ankylosis. Ankylosed permanent front teeth fail to erupt during facial growth and can become displaced, thus resulting in functional and aesthetic problems. Dental ankylosis is also associated with root resorption, which may eventually lead to the loss of affected teeth. Different interventions for the management of ankylosed permanent front teeth have been described, but it is unclear which are the most effective.
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effectiveness of any intervention that can be us

INTRODUCTION: Dental trauma commonly affects the anterior teeth of young individuals, often leading to pulpal compromise through neurovascular damage. Orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) may further stress these teeth, thereby increasing the risk of loss of vitality. This prospective cohort study aimed to assess the impact of OTM on pulp vitality in previously traumatized permanent anterior teeth compared to non-traumatized contralateral controls.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixty patients (mean age: 16.5 ± 3.2 years) participated, each providing one traumatized anterior tooth (traumatized group) and

BACKGROUND: Subchondral insufficiency fracture of the knee (SIFK) is a rare and rapidly progressing knee joint disease. The typical diagnostic finding of SIFK by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a subchondral hypointense line around the bone marrow lesions (BMLs), which are also commonly observed in knee osteoarthritis (OA). Subchondral bone fracture and its repair reactions are implicated for SIFK. However, pathological changes of SIFK and BMLs and the mechanism by which SIFK is induced remain elusive. We aimed to examine characteristics of SIFK and OA by micro-computed tomography (micro-C

INTRODUCTION: Adult orthodontic patients often require prolonged treatment and heightened periodontal risks, especially in bimaxillary protrusion with thin labial bone. Periodontally Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics (PAOO) has been shown to shorten treatment duration and enhance periodontal safety. This quasi-experimental pilot study evaluated the feasibility of PAOO using Freeze- Dried Demineralized Bone Allograft (FDDBA) with or without Dental Pulp Stem Cells (DPSCs) embedded in Festigel.
METHODS: Thirty adults were assigned to Group I: conventional treatment (control), Group II: PAOO wi

BACKGROUND: Odontogenic cysts and tumors are highly encountered jaw lesions with varying clinical characteristics and disease behavior. Its pathogenesis may involve the existence of tumor stem cells. SOX2 transcription factor is expressed in embryonic and adult stem cells and exerts a potent influence on maintaining pluripotency. SOX2 expressing cells would account for the aggressive nature and recurrence of some odontogenic pathologies. To evaluate the prognostic role of SOX2 stem cell marker in odontogenic cysts and tumors and determine whether its expression is associated with the clinico-b

OBJECTIVES: Implant placement immediately after tooth extraction is often accompanied by resorption of surrounding tissues. A clinical technique was developed where the buccal portion of the root is retained to preserve the periodontal ligament and bundle bone. This technique is based on animal studies showing the potential to preserve the facial tissues utilizing this approach. The purpose of this study was to gain more insight regarding the safety of the technique with regard to biological and implant-related long-term complications and to observe the clinical appearance of the peri-implant
