An unusual case of invasive cervical resorption after piezosurgery-assisted en masse retraction.

A 16-year-old patient sought orthodontic correction for profile improvement and labially inclined maxillary incisors. She had Class II malocclusion, protrusive maxillary and mandibular incisors, and increased overjet and overbite with an American Board of Orthodontics discrepancy index value of 25. She was treated with maxillary premolar extractions and miniscrew-supported en masse retraction assisted with piezoincisions. Extraction spaces (7.5 mm per side) were closed with maximum anchorage in 10 months. Total treatment time was 23 months. Twenty-seven months after debonding, a pink spot was

Cone-beam CT: applications in orthodontics.

Radiographic images have always been an important part of orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning. We have been limited by the two-dimensional nature of these radiographs as we pursue tooth movement in a three-dimensional fashion. This article shows the current and future uses and advantages of cone-beam CT in the practice of orthodontics. The use of this technology in the near future will change the way records are taken and treatment is rendered. With this added diagnostic knowledge, orthodontic treatment will assuredly become not only more high tech but also higher quality.

The effect of micro-osteoperforation (MOP) in molar distalization treatments: an exploratory systematic review and meta-analysis of RCTs.

OBJECTIVE: Molar distalization is a therapeutic approach commonly used for treating Class II malocclusions. However, the extended duration of this treatment often leads to its replacement with alternative methods that offer shorter treatment times. Micro-osteoperforation (MOP) has been introduced as a technique aimed at accelerating tooth movement and reducing treatment duration. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of MOP on molar distalization outcomes to provide evidence for its effective and safe use. SEARCH METHODS: A comprehensive search was conducted across multiple data

Understanding exosomes: Part 3-therapeutic + diagnostic potential in dentistry.

Exosomes are the smallest subset of extracellular signaling vesicles secreted by most cells with the ability to communicate with other tissues and cell types over long distances. Their use in regenerative medicine has gained tremendous momentum recently due to their ability to be utilized as therapeutic options for a wide array of various diseases. Over 5000 publications are currently being published on this topic yearly, many of which in the dental space. This extensive review article is the first scoping review aimed at summarizing all therapeutic uses of exosomes in regenerative dentistry.

Periodontal considerations during orthodontic intrusion and extrusion in healthy and reduced periodontium.

In patients with advanced periodontal disease, pathological tooth migration may occur, which may require subsequent orthodontic treatment for both aesthetic and functional purposes. When planning orthodontic treatment mechanics, intrusive or extrusive forces are frequently indicated. Understanding tissue reactions during these movements is essential for clinicians when devising a comprehensive orthodontic-periodontal treatment plan. This knowledge enables clinicians to be fully aware of and account for the potential effects on the surrounding tissues. The majority of our understanding regardin

Clear Cell Odontogenic Carcinoma: A Series of Three Cases.

BACKGROUND: Clear cell odontogenic carcinoma (CCOC) is a rare malignant odontogenic epithelial neoplasm of the jaws. It is composed of irregular nests of clear to faintly eosinophilic cells resembling clear cell rests of primitive dental lamina and an intermixed hyalinized fibrous stroma. Most cases occur in the 5th and 6th decades of life, with a female predominance. The mandible is affected more than the maxilla. Clinical features vary from asymptomatic to non-specific pain, ill-defined radiolucency, root resorption, and sometimes soft tissue extension. Histology varies from bland to high gr
