CC vs. CC-Plus: A Comparison between Two Cranial-to-Caudal Approaches for Laparoscopic Right Hemicolectomy: A Single-Center Retrospective Study.

BACKGROUND: Colorectal cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, with approximately 1.9 million new cases and over 935,000 deaths in 2020. Right-sided colon cancer, a subset of colorectal cancer, represents a significant health burden. Laparoscopic colon surgery has significantly improved postoperative recovery. The superiority of one approach or landmark over another is still argued about due to the lack of large-scale prospective studies. However, deep understanding both of the anatomical variation and characteristics of each approach is of extreme importance to minimizin

Incidence and pattern of concurrent capitellum fracture associated with radial head and neck fractures.

BACKGROUND: Radial head and neck fracture is a common fracture around the elbow. It is mostly caused by axial or valgus loading after a fall in elbow extension and forearm pronation. When a radial head and neck fracture occurs, the capitellum collides with the radial head and experiences a shear force, leading to capitellum fracture. The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the incidence of concurrent capitellum fracture and analyze its patterns among patients treated for radial head and neck fractures based on computed tomography. Secondary aim is to determine factors associated with con

Long-term clinical outcomes of lipiodol marking using standard gastroscopy for image-guided radiotherapy of upper gastrointestinal cancers.

BACKGROUND: Image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) has significantly improved the precision in which radiotherapy is delivered in cancer treatment. Typically, IGRT uses bony landmarks and key anatomical structures to locate the tumor. Recent studies have demonstrated the feasibility of peri-tumor fiducials in enabling even more accurate delineation of target and normal tissue. The use of gold coils as fiducials in gastrointestinal tumors has been extensively studied. However, placement requires expertise and specialized endoscopic ultrasound equipment. This article reports the long-term outcomes of

The measurement of craniocervical posture: a simple method to evaluate head position.

OBJECTIVE: Some studies have correlated craniocervical posture (CCP) with pharyngeal airway space diameter, breathing conditions, neck pain, headache, dentofacial structures and temporomandibular disorders. Several methods have been suggested in an attempt to establish the best way of evaluating head position using teleradiographs and cephalometric analysis. The objectives of this study therefore were to describe a method of measuring the natural head position (NHP) without exposure to radiation or fixture of the cephalostat, and then to test whether there might be a simple method of reproduci

Gallium-67 scintigraphy in lymphoma: is there a benefit of image fusion with computed tomography?

The usefulness and complementarity of gallium (67Ga) scintigraphy and computed tomography (CT) in the management of patients with lymphoma have been extensively demonstrated. Owing to a lack of anatomical landmarks and physiological distribution of the tracer, precise localisation of abnormalities on 67Ga scintigraphy can be difficult. As fusion imaging techniques between single-photon emission tomography (SPET) and CT have been developed recently, we investigated whether use of CT/67Ga SPET fusion imaging could help in the interpretation of 67Ga scintigraphy. From November 1999 to May 2001, 5

Characterizing electronic noise interference from the external laser positioning system on a radiation therapy MRI simulation scanner.

BACKGROUND: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for radiation therapy treatment planning is currently being used in many anatomical sites to better visualize soft tissue landmarks, a technique known as an MRI simulation. A core component of modern MRI simulation configurations are the use of external laser positioning systems (ELPS) to help set up the patient. Though necessary for accurate and reproducible patient setup, the ELPS, if left on during imaging, may interfere negatively with image quality due to leaking electronic noise, of which MRI is sensitive to. PURPOSE: It is currently unknown

Longitudinal dynamics and recovery of lung ultrasonographic consolidations, association with growth in dairy calves in herds with circulating bovine coronavirus and Pasteurellaceae.

Subclinical pneumonia is frequently detected in calves; however, its longitudinal dynamics, including recovery during the neonatal period, remain poorly understood. This prospective cohort study characterized lung consolidation dynamics, recovery, and growth in dairy calves from 2 herds with circulating bovine coronavirus (BCoV) and Pasteurellaceae. A total of 126 newborn calves from 2 dairy herds were monitored using quick thoracic ultrasonography and clinical scoring, with examinations performed twice weekly until one month of age. Based on anatomical landmarks, the lung was divided into 4 q

Anterior Cruciate Ligament Femoral Tunnel Placement: An Analysis of the Intended Versus Achieved Position for 221 International High-Volume ACL Surgeons.

BACKGROUND: Femoral tunnels that are not anatomically placed within the native anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) footprint during ACL reconstruction are associated with residual instability, graft rupture, and poor clinical outcomes. Although surgeons may intend to place their femoral tunnels within the native ACL attachment, this is not always achieved. This study assesses the variation between intended and achieved femoral tunnel positions in a large cohort of experienced ACL surgeons. HYPOTHESIS: The accuracy with which experienced ACL surgeons achieve their intended femoral tunnel position

Robotic versus fluoroscopy-guided pedicle screw insertion for metastatic spinal disease: a matched-cohort comparison.

OBJECTIVE Robot-guided pedicle screw placement is an established technique for the placement of pedicle screws. However, most studies have focused on degenerative disease. In this paper, the authors focus on metastatic spinal disease, which is associated with osteolysis. The associated lack of dense bone may potentially affect the automatic recognition accuracy of radiography-based surgical assistance systems. The aim of the present study is to compare the accuracy of the SpineAssist robot system with conventional fluoroscopy-guided pedicle screw placement for thoracolumbar metastatic spinal d

[Ultrasonic guided cannulation of the axillary vein in intensive care patients].

Cannulation of the axillary vein is claimed to be an effective and relatively safe access to the central venous (CV) system [2, 4, 5, 8]. However, anatomical landmarks recommended for venous location (Muskulus pectoralis minor, processus coracoideus) are probably hard to identify in the majority of intensive care (ICU) patients. This investigation evaluated unidirectional 8 MHz Doppler ultrasound (US) in locating the axillary vein. Success rates and complications of this CV access in ICU patients is analysed. METHODS. The experimental design was approved by the local ethical committee (RUB). I

CyberKnife SBRT plus lenvatinib and tislelizumab versus doublet systemic therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma with macrovascular invasion: A real-world IPTW-adjusted study.

BACKGROUND & PURPOSE: Macrovascular invasion (MVI) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) confers extremely poor prognosis. While lenvatinib plus tislelizumab is an active targeted-immunotherapy regimen, local control of tumor thrombus remains suboptimal. Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) delivered via CyberKnife offers highly conformal local treatment and may have immunomodulatory effects. We evaluated whether adding CyberKnife SBRT to doublet systemic therapy was associated with improved outcomes in HCC with MVI. MATERIALS & METHODS: This real-world retrospective study included 116 HCC patie

Posterior mandibular edentulous ridge morphometry on CBCT: anatomical constraints relevant to surgical planning.

BACKGROUND: Accurate preoperative assessment of posterior mandibular edentulous sites is essential for implant planning because ridge resorption, proximity to the mandibular canal, and lingual cortical morphology may limit implant placement. This retrospective cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT)-based study aimed to compare residual bone height (RBH), ridge width, lingual concavity angle (LCA), and horizontal concavity offset (HCO) among posterior mandibular tooth regions and to evaluate implant feasibility and augmentation requirements using a standardized virtual planning model. METHODS: T

Lateral approach in laparoscopic cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis with stones: advantages in reducing inflammation, stress, and enhancing recovery.

BACKGROUND: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the preferred treatment for acute cholecystitis with gallstones; however, severe local inflammation, tissue adhesions, and unclear anatomical landmarks during the acute phase may increase surgical difficulty and operative trauma. Therefore, optimization of the surgical dissection approach remains clinically important. OBJECTIVE: To explore the impact of different surgical approaches during laparoscopic cholecystectomy on perioperative recovery, inflammatory response, and stress state in patients with acute cholecystitis combined with gallstones, and

Nerve-guided laparoscopic total mesorectal excision for distal rectal cancer.

BACKGROUND: Urogenital dysfunctions are well-recognized problems after rectal cancer surgery and are often due to autonomic nerve damage. Although following holy planes during total mesorectal excision (TME) reduces the possibility of damage to the autonomic nerve fibers, these could still be affected in some critical areas.1 (,) 2 To improve the quality of surgery and prevent nerve damage, accurate intraoperative anatomical orientation of autonomic nerve is essential.3 Thanks to advancement of the high-definition laparoscopic technology, even the finest nerve fibers deep in the pelvic cavity

Exploring perioperative complications of anterior lumber interbody fusion in patients with a history of prior abdominal surgery: A retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) exposes the anterior aspect of the spine through a retroperitoneal approach. Access to the anterior spine requires mobilization of intra-abdominal viscera/vasculature, which can become complicated as scarring and/or adhesions develop from prior abdominal surgical interventions, increasing risk of intraoperative complications. The literature suggests that "significant prior abdominal surgery" is a relative contraindication of ALIF surgery; however, there is no consensus within the literature as to what defines "major/significant" abdom

Quantitative analysis of level-specific fusion outcomes and scapular positioning in scapulothoracic arthrodesis.

BACKGROUND: Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD) is among the most common hereditary muscular dystrophies, often affecting periscapular muscles and causing scapular winging, which severely impairs activities of daily living. Scapulothoracic arthrodesis (STA) aims to stabilize the scapula, improving upper extremity range of motion. Despite its long-standing use, the ideal scapular fixation position remains undetermined, and level-specific fusion outcomes have not been evaluated. This retrospective cohort study evaluates fusion rates based on early and late computed tomography (CT) imag
