Favorable response of an extensive periapical lesion to root canal treatment.

This article presents non-surgical resolution of an extensive periapical lesion of endodontic origin associated with the maxillary left lateral incisor. Clinical examination revealed an asymptomatic bony hard swelling confined to the palate, while radiographic analysis showed a lesion measuring 22 mm in diameter and nearly 389 mm(2) in area. Through apical patency, 4 ml of intracanal exudate was drained. After thorough biomechanical preparation, a calcium hydroxide/CPMC root canal dressing was applied and periodically renewed for 11 months. The exudate was eliminated at treatment onset and sig

Endodontic treatment of teeth associated with a large periapical lesion.

AIM: To report the healing of a large periapical lesion following non-surgical root canal treatment. SUMMARY: A 12-year-old male with a large periapical lesion around the apices of his mandibular incisors is described. The lesion formed after trauma to the mandibular anterior teeth 5 years previously. During root canal treatment, chlorhexidine gluconate was used for irrigation, and calcium hydroxide was used both for the intracanal dressing and as a base of the root canal sealer. Periapical healing was observed 3 months after obturation and continued at the 12-month review. Key learning point

Comparative Evaluation of Automated Retreatment Systems for Bioceramic Sealer Removal: An In Vitro Scanning Electron Microscopic Study.

BACKGROUND: Calcium silicate-based bioceramic sealers have gained widespread acceptance because of their excellent sealing ability and biocompatibility. However, their strong adhesion to dentinal walls poses a significant challenge during nonsurgical endodontic retreatment. This study evaluated and compared the efficacy of the Neoendo Retreatment (Neoendo, Orikam Healthcare India Pvt. Ltd., Gurugram, India), ProTaper Universal Retreatment (Dentsply Sirona, Ballaigues, Switzerland), and HyFlex Remover (COLTENE/Whaledent AG, Altstätten, Switzerland) file systems in removing bioceramic sealers fr

Treatment of inflammatory external root resorption resulting from dental avulsion and pulp necrosis: clinical case report.

The aim of this case report was to present a treatment for severe inflammatory external root resorption. The condition developed due to the patient's neglect to seek adequate treatment following replantation of an avulsed maxillary left central incisor. Following diagnosis, treatment consisted of conventional endodontic therapy with calcium hydroxide dressings and definitive filling of the root canal after the resorption was controlled radiographically. A 24-month follow-up showed that the resorption process had stabilized and the patient was free of symptoms. Successful tooth replantation req

The Effect of Speed and Rotation for Protaper File Systems on Postobturation Pain in a Single Visit and Multiple (Two) Visits in Root Canal Therapy: An In Vivo Study.

INTRODUCTION: The basic idea of a root canal treatment is to alleviate the pain and heal the infection within the infected tooth, which can be resolved in a single visit or multiple visits in root canal therapy. Therefore, in this article, an in vivo comparison of single visits and multiple visits using different rotation and speed for two Protaper universal design file systems is done on the basis of time taken and incidence of pain. MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred single-rooted premolars with irreversible symptomatic pulpitis were assigned to two groups of 50 patients each using the odd-

Reliability of the dye penetration studies.

The purpose of this study was to compare the classical dye-penetration method to a dye-extraction method, with a fluid-filtration method as control. Forty teeth were prepared with a ProFile device and divided into four groups (n = 10 per group) according to the sealer used for the lateral condensation: Pulp Canal Sealer, Sealapex, AH Plus, and Ketac-Endo. The apical seal was evaluated on the same teeth with all three methods, successively: a fluid-filtration method, a dye-penetration method with 2% methylene blue, and a new method where the roots were dissolved in 65% nitric acid to extract th

Labiomandibular paresthesia caused by endodontic treatment: an anatomic and clinical study.

Labiomandibular paresthesia after root canal treatment is an accident that is still too frequent despite the development of new endodontic techniques. The aim of this anatomical and clinical study is to advance the understanding of how accidents occur so as to avoid them. This anatomical study made it possible to determine the variability of proximity of the apex of the tooth root to the mandibular bundle, as well as the relationship between the nerve and its satellite artery, and to understand how endodontic filling material spreads into the cancellous bone. The clinical study, which included

Open apex type III dens invaginatus: a rare case report of an endodontic retreatment with an anatomical redesign.

Dens invaginatus is a critical condition for endodontic treatment. It frequently presents a complex internal anatomy and might be associated with incomplete root and apical development. This article presents one of the few reported cases of endodontic retreatment of Type III dens invaginatus. First, the internal anatomy was modified using burs under an operating microscope. Next, conventional chemical and mechanical preparation with hand files and 2.5% sodium hypochlorite was performed. Finally, an intracanal dressing with calcium hydroxide was used for nine months, at which point the anatomic
