HyperGraph-based capsule temporal memory network for efficient and explainable diabetic retinopathy detection in retinal imaging.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a chronic complication of diabetes in which the retinal damage may cause vision impairment or blindness if left untreated. The challenges in DR detection are mostly due to the morphological variations of retinal lesions, e.g., microaneurysms, hemorrhages, and exudates, and the imaging condition variability between different clinical environments. Current state of the art deep learning models like convolutional neural network (CNN), recurrent neural network (RNN) and transformer-based architectures are computationally expensive, not robust to noisy datasets and have

White matter capillaries in vascular and neurodegenerative dementias.

Previous studies suggest white matter (WM) integrity is vulnerable to chronic hypoperfusion during brain ageing. We assessed ~ 0.7 million capillary profiles in the frontal lobe WM across several dementias comprising Alzheimer's disease, dementia with Lewy bodies, Parkinson's disease with dementia, vascular dementia, mixed dementias, post-stroke dementia as well as post-stroke no dementia and similar age ageing and young controls without significant brain pathology. Standard histopathological methods were used to determine microvascular pathology and capillary width and densities in 153 subjec

Determinants of microangiopathy in growth-onset diabetes. With special reference to retinopathy and glycaemic control.

In a quasi-experiment all diabetic children in a defined area were exposed either to an intense clinical treatment or served as a constructed control. The cohort of 146 diabetics was observed prospectively for at least 15 years as to diabetic control, mainly glycosuria, and cross-sectionally examined for microangiopathy on four occasions. Data on family background, social situation, smoking, blood pressure, biochemical status, anthropometry, HLA factors and mortality were also gathered. Throughout the analysis duration was considered and treated as a concomitant variable. Two different strateg

The Complementary Role of Optical Coherence Tomography and Fluorescein Angiography in Diagnosing and Monitoring Retinal Vascular Status in Susac Syndrome: Two Case Reports.

Background and Clinical Significance: Susac syndrome is a rare autoimmune-mediated microangiopathy characterized by the triad of encephalopathy, branch retinal artery occlusion (BRAO), and sensorineural hearing loss. Due to its variable onset and protean manifestations, the syndrome is frequently misdiagnosed, potentially leading to delayed treatment and irreversible organ damage. Ocular involvement is common and often provides the first diagnostic clue. Multimodal imaging, particularly fluorescein angiography (FA) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) as well as optical coherence tomography

Association between condylar asymmetry and temporomandibular disorders using 3D-CT.

BACKGROUND: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a significant global health concern, emphasizing the necessity of early detection to facilitate prompt clinical intervention. Leveraging the unique ability of the retina to offer insights into systemic vascular health, it emerges as an interesting, non-invasive option for early CKD detection. Integrating this approach with existing invasive methods could provide a comprehensive understanding of patient health, enhancing diagnostic accuracy and treatment effectiveness. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this review is to critically assess the potential of re
