Seven-year stability of obsessive-compulsive personality disorder symptom criteria in individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) commonly co-occurs with personality disorders, particularly obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD). Recent research suggests that personality disorders, especially OCPD, might not be as stable as once thought. The current study investigates the longitudinal stability of OCPD diagnosis and individual symptom criteria in individuals with OCD. Around 320 participants with a primary diagnosis of OCD were included in the study, with diagnostic assessments conducted annually for 7 years. Logistic mixed-effects models were conducted to examine the relatio

Psychosocial stress in women with functional hypothalamic amenorrhea and potential implications for cardiovascular disease risk.

Functional hypothalamic amenorrhea (FHA) is a form of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism that accounts for approximately 30-35% of secondary amenorrhea in women of reproductive age. This condition is characterized by anovulation due to a reduced gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) drive, activation of the hypothalamic‒pituitary‒adrenal (HPA) axis and sick euthyroid syndrome, resulting in nonorganic hypoestrogenemia, hypercortisolemia, and hypothyroidism. The stressors contributing to FHA include psychological factors such as perfectionism and mood disorders; psychosocial factors such as adverse l

Bottom-up transdiagnostic personality subtypes are associated with state psychopathology: A latent profile analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Personality-based profiling helps elucidate associations between psychopathology symptoms and address shortcomings of current nosologies. The objective of this study was to bracket the assumption of a priori diagnostic class borders and apply the profiling approach to a transdiagnostic sample. Profiles resembling high-functioning, undercontrolled, and overcontrolled phenotypes were expected to emerge. METHODS: We used latent profile analysis on data from a sample of women with mental disorders (n = 313) and healthy controls (n = 114). 3-5 profile solutions were compared based on

The role of dieting, psychopathological characteristics and maladaptive personality traits in Orthorexia Nervosa.

BACKGROUND: Pursuing a healthy diet is not a dysfunctional behavior, but dieting could be an important etiological factor for Orthorexia Nervosa (ON). The aim of this study was to investigate the role of diet in groups with high/low orthorexic tendencies. Moreover, some psychopathological characteristics associated with ON and maladaptive personality traits were investigated. METHODS: The sample consisted of three groups: two were on a diet and had high (HIGH-D; n = 52) or low (LOW-D; n = 41) orthorexic tendencies. The other was composed of people with high orthorexic tendencies not on a diet

The neurobiology of obsessive-compulsive personality disorder: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: A number of recent investigations have focused on the neurobiology of obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD). However, there have been few reviews of this literature with no detailed model proposed. We therefore undertook a systematic review of these investigations, aiming to map the available evidence and investigate whether it is possible to formulate a detailed model of the neurobiology of OCPD. METHODS: OCPD can be considered from both categorical and dimensional perspectives. An electronic search was therefore conducted using terms that would address not only OCPD a

[The relationship of muscle dysmorphia to the body image and early maladaptive schemata created by parental behaviours].

INTRODUCTION: the purpose of our study was to investigate the link between specific traits that determine muscle dysmorphia in bodybuilders and the parental behaviours which play a role in developing these schemata, as well as the eating-disorder-specific traits which differentiate bodybuilders from the normal population. AIM: conceptualising the similarities of personality traits in case of muscle dysmorphia and eating disorders, as well as their etiology based on the schema theory. METHOD: to measure muscle dysmorphia was used the Muscle Appearance Satisfaction Scale. We explored its conne

A Multimethod Analysis of Incompleteness and Visual "Not Just Right" Experiences in Body Dysmorphic Disorder.

Individuals with body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) often report engaging in repetitive behaviors aimed at reducing feelings of imperfection anchored to their appearance. "Not just right" experiences (NJREs) and incompleteness (INC) are constructs related to perfectionism that have traditionally been studied in obsessive-compulsive disorder, though recent research has also linked these phenomena to BDD. We sought to replicate and extend this research via two studies. Study 1 examined BDD symptoms, INC, as well as harm avoidance (HA) in an unselected sample (N = 179); moderate associations were obs

Orthorexia nervosa: A review of psychosocial risk factors.

Orthorexia nervosa (ON) is a condition described as a pathological obsession with healthy eating. This paper will review the prevalence of ON and how ON is measured. The primary objective is to critically analyze findings on the psychosocial risk factors associated with ON, to consider its relation to other mental disorders, and to offer directions for future research. The key words "orthorexia" and "orthorexia nervosa" were searched in the databases PsycINFO and MEDLINE/PubMed. This paper reviewed peer-reviewed articles published up until December 31st, 2018. Quality assessment was conducted

Examining the DSM-5 alternative model of personality disorders operationalization of obsessive-compulsive personality disorder in a mental health sample.

The current study evaluated the continuity between the diagnostic operationalizations of obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD) in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, both as traditionally operationalized and from the perspective of the alternative model of personality disorders. Using both self-report and informant measures, the study had the following four aims: (a) to examine the extent to which self-report and informant data correspond, (b) to investigate whether both self-report and informant measures of the alternative model of OCPD can pr

Inpatient cognitive behaviour therapy for anorexia nervosa: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to compare the immediate and longer-term effects of two cognitive behaviour therapy programmes for hospitalized patients with anorexia nervosa, one focused exclusively on the patients' eating disorder features and the other focused also on mood intolerance, clinical perfectionism, core low self-esteem or interpersonal difficulties. Both programmes were derived from enhanced cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT-E) for eating disorders. METHODS: Eighty consecutive patients with severe anorexia nervosa were randomized to the two inpatient CBT-E programmes, both

Temporal relationships of emotional avoidance in a patient with anorexia nervosa--a time series analysis.

OBJECTIVE: Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a serious eating disorder marked by self-induced underweight. In patients with AN, the avoidance of emotions appears to be a central feature that is reinforced during the acute state of the disorder. This single case study investigated the role of emotional avoidance of a 25-year-old patient with AN during her inpatient treatment. METHOD: Throughout the course of 96 days, the patient answered questions daily about her emotional avoidance, pro-anorectic beliefs, perfectionism, and further variables on an electronic diary. The patient's daily self-assessment

Psychological status of patients with chronic urticaria.

Although chronic urticaria is the most common cutaneous disorder seen in our outpatient allergy clinics, to our knowledge, no study of psychiatric morbidity in allergy departments has been carried out in our country. For the present study, we used the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) to evaluate the personality traits and psychological status of patients with chronic idiopathic urticaria (CIU). Fifty-nine outpatients with CIU and 59 healthy control subjects were enrolled in the study. Patients were included if no specific cause for their urticaria could be identified by detai

The relationship between temperament and impulsive behaviors in eating disordered subjects.

To date, few studies have examined the personality characteristics and clinical predictors of impulsive behaviors in eating disorders (ED). The aim of this work was to study the prevalence of a wide range of impulsive behaviors in a sample of 554 ED subjects and to examine the predictors of these behaviors. Subjects were diagnosed according to DSM-IV criteria as having anorexia nervosa restricting type (ANR; n = 183), anorexia nervosa binge eating/purging type (ANBP; n = 65), bulimia nervosa purging type (BNP; n = 244), and bulimia nervosa nonpurging type (BNNP; n = 62). Sources of dentists' stress.

Almost 1,000 American dentists attending the 1982 Association annual meeting completed a self-administered questionnaire on sources of stress in dental practice. Most respondents identified dentistry as more stressful than other occupations. However, most believed that other dentists were under more stress than themselves. Dentists use a variety of ways to cope with their stress but a fourth report they do nothing. The stressors particularly noted included falling behind schedule, striving for technical perfection, causing pain or anxiety in patients, canceled or late appointments, and lack of
