Comparison of arthroscopic and open anterior shoulder stabilization. A two to six-year follow-up study.

BACKGROUND: Sixty-three consecutive patients with recurrent traumatic anterior shoulder instability underwent operative repair. The decision to select either arthroscopic Bankart repair or open capsular shift was based on the findings of an examination under anesthesia and the findings at the time of arthroscopy. Thirty-nine patients with only anterior translation on examination under anesthesia and a discrete Bankart lesion underwent arthroscopic Bankart repair with use of absorbable transfixing implants. Twenty-four patients with inferior translation in addition to anterior translation on ex

Anticipation may underestimate neuromechanical deficits in chronic ankle instability during walking inversion perturbations.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to compare ankle kinematics and lower limb muscle activation between individuals with and without chronic ankle instability (CAI), both prior to and following an inversion perturbation during walking, with a particular focus on how anticipation modulates muscle activation and the consequent ankle inversion post-perturbation. METHODS: Forty-six participants were enrolled, including 23 with CAI and 23 age- and sex-matched non-CAI controls. They walked at a self-selected pace on a custom-designed platform equipped with a trapdoor programmed to trigger a 24° inversion

Electrical Stimulation and Its Role in Offsetting the Detrimental Effects of Immobilization After Rotator Cuff Repair in a Rat Model.

BACKGROUND: After rotator cuff repair, immobilization (IM) is routinely employed to limit mechanical loading at the repaired enthesis and reduce the risk of reinjury. However, prolonged IM can lead to stiffness, muscle atrophy, and impaired healing, including fatty degeneration and abnormal matrix remodeling. HYPOTHESIS/PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine whether adjunctive electrical stimulation (ES) during postoperative IM mitigates disuse-related impairments and promotes tendon-to-bone healing and functional recovery after rotator cuff repair in a rat model. ES applied duri

Traumatic Failure of Primary Latarjet Revised With Distal Tibial Allograft Reconstruction: A Case Report.

Recurrent anterior shoulder instability in young, high-demand patients is frequently compounded by significant glenoid bone loss, a known risk factor for failure of isolated soft-tissue stabilization. The Latarjet procedure has demonstrated reliable outcomes in restoring stability in this population; however, traumatic postoperative complications such as coracoid graft fracture and hardware failure are rare and pose substantial challenges in revision management. Optimal strategies for addressing failed coracoid transfer remain incompletely defined. In this case report, a case of traumatic fail

Multifactorial approach training for anterior shoulder instability after a Latarjet procedure: protocol for a randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: The Latarjet procedure is the mainstay treatment in high-demand patients with substantial glenoid bone loss or after failed capsulolabral repairs. Patients typically return to sport (RTS) within 6 months postoperatively, requiring intensive rehabilitation. Current rehabilitation protocols focus on mobility, strength and stability. Yet, psychological factors, such as fear of reinjury, are the main reason not to RTS. Therefore, this study aims to determine whether integrating psychological interventions into postoperative rehabilitation improves patient-reported shoulder function c

Quadriceps Rate of Torque Development Is More Impaired Than Strength 4 to 12 Months Post-ACLR in Collegiate Athletes.

BACKGROUND: Quadriceps neuromuscular impairments are common after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). Quadriceps function is typically characterized by peak torque (PT) assessment, and reported as limb symmetry index (LSI). Even when PT LSI is restored, high reinjury rates and abnormal biomechanics persist. Quadriceps rate of torque development (RTD) may have significant functional relevance, but direct comparisons of PT and RTD recovery post-ACLR are lacking. HYPOTHESIS: Quadriceps RTD LSI will recover more slowly than PT LSI post-ACLR. STUDY DESIGN: Longitudinal cohort study.

Potential of Aligned Electrospun PLGA/SIS Blended Nanofibrous Membrane for Tendon Tissue Engineering.

Tendons are responsible for transmitting mechanical forces from muscles to bones for body locomotion and joint stability. However, tendons are frequently damaged with high mechanical forces. Various methods have been utilized for repairing damaged tendons, including sutures, soft tissue anchors, and biological grafts. However, tendons experience a higher rate of retear post-surgery due to their low cellularity and vascularity. Surgically sutured tendons are vulnerable to reinjury due to their inferior functionality when compared with native tendons. Surgical treatment using biological grafts a
