An intelligent healthcare system for rare disease diagnosis utilizing electronic health records based on a knowledge-guided multimodal transformer framework.

Rare diseases are a common problem with millions of patients globally, but their diagnosis is difficult because of varied clinical presentations, small sample size, and disparate biomedical data sources. Current diagnostic tools are not able to combine multimodal information effectively, which results in a timely or wrong diagnosis. To fill this gap, this paper suggests a smart multimodal healthcare framework integrating electronic health records (EHRs), genomic sequences, and medical imaging to improve the detection of rare diseases. The framework uses Swin Transformer to extract hierarchical

Mass spectrometry dataset of LC-MS lipidomics analysis of Xenopus laevis optic nerve.

CNS injuries of the anuran amphibian, Xenopus laevis, are uniquely suited for studying the molecular compositions of neuronal regeneration of retinal ganglion cells (RGC) due to a functional recovery of optic axons disparate to adult mammalian analogues. RGCs and their optic nerve axons undergo irreversible neurodegeneration in glaucoma and associated optic neuropathies, resulting in blindness in mammals. Conversely, Xenopus demonstrates RGC lifetime-spanning regenerative capabilities after optic nerve crush [1], inciting opportunities to compare de novo regeneration and develop efficient phar

Current management of infantile cataracts.

Infantile cataracts remain one of the most treatable causes of lifelong visual impairment. While the chance of improving vision for children with infantile cataracts has never been better, significant global and socioeconomic disparities still exist in their early management. Recent epidemiological studies reveal a stable prevalence of infantile cataracts in high-income countries and highlight challenges in determining the prevalence of infantile cataracts in low-income countries. Detailed descriptions of cataract morphology may inform us as to etiology, provide guidance with regards to surgic

Primary Immunodeficiency Disorders and Inborn Errors of Immunity in Saudi Arabia: Current Evidence on Epidemiology, Clinical Impact, and Healthcare System Challenges.

The term inborn errors of immunity (IEI) is now widely used to describe many conditions historically known as primary immunodeficiency disorders (PIDs), comprising a heterogeneous group of rare diseases that affect immune system development and/or function and increase the risk of inflammation, infection, immune dysregulation, and malignancy. In Saudi Arabia, the clinical impact of PID/IEI is particularly significant owing to the high consanguinity rates, delayed diagnosis, variable access to specialized immunology services, and limited national records. This narrative review summarizes the av
