[Effect of nasal swell body on nasal airflow and Artemisia pollen deposition].

Objective:The nasal swell body(NSB) consists of the nasal septal cartilage, nasal bone, and swollen soft tissue, all of which are visible during endoscopic and imaging examinations. Although the function of the NSB remains uncertain, there is evidence to suggest that it plays a vital role in regulating nasal airflow and filtering inhaled air. Based on anatomical and histological evidence, it is hypothesized that the NSB is indispensable in these processes. This study aims to investigate the impact of NSB on nasal aerodynamics and the deposition of allergen particles under physiological conditi

LBX1 alters polyamine pathway in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis - a new therapeutic target to mitigate curve progression.

BACKGROUND: Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is the most common three-dimensional (3D) spinal deformity occurring during puberty, with girls at a higher risk of curve progression to the surgical threshold. Ladybird homeobox 1 (LBX1) is the most promising AIS predisposing gene based on GWAS studies, but its role in curve progression remains elusive. METHODS: The role of LBX1 in muscle phenotype and curve progression was investigated in clinical samples and mouse models. Additionally, metabolomic analysis was used to explore signaling pathway and potential therapeutic target. RESULTS: In

Optimized Brain Functional MRI for Patients With Deep Brain Stimulation Systems.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is an established neuromodulation therapy for Parkinson disease and other neurological disorders. Active DBS-functional MRI (fMRI) enables visualization of circuit engagement and may provide objective biomarkers of therapeutic efficacy, yet susceptibility artifacts compromise data quality. The aim of this study was to develop optimized blood oxygenation-level-dependent (BOLD) fMRI protocols for DBS patients by adjusting operator-accessible parameters to mitigate susceptibility artifacts while preserving image quality. METHODS: In vitro t

Successful Cochlear Implantation of a Split Electrode Array in a Patient With Far-advanced Otosclerosis Assisted by Electromagnetic Navigation: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Incomplete electrode insertion is frequent when implanting ossified cochleae with conventional linear electrodes. If split electrode arrays (SEA) are used, this complication occurs less frequently resulting in improved audiological performance (AP). Additional implementation of electromagnetic navigation systems (EMNS) may add additional safety to this procedure and may further improve AP. However, previously performed SEA cochlea implantations rarely implemented EMNS. The few cases reported a laborious approach with customized, three-dimensional-printed microstereotactic headframe

Engineered nanofiber scaffolds prime chromatin reorganization to sensitize cells for long-term and low-dose chemical hazard detection.

Fast and early detection of low-dose chemical toxicity is a critical unmet need in toxicology and human health, as conventional 2D culture models often fail to capture subtle cellular responses induced by sub-toxic exposures. Here, we present a bioengineered three-dimensional (3D) electrospun nanofibrous scaffold composed of polycaprolactone that enhances chromatin accessibility and primes fibroblasts for improved sensitivity to low-dose chemical stimuli in a short period. The scaffold mimics the extracellular matrix, providing topographical cues that reduce cytoskeletal tension and promote nu

A Cell-Based Nasal Model for Screening the Deposition, Biocompatibility, and Transport of Aerosolized PLGA Nanoparticles.

The olfactory region of the nasal cavity directly links the brain to the external environment, presenting a potential direct route to the central nervous system (CNS). However, targeting drugs to the olfactory region is challenging and relies on a combination of drug formulation, delivery device, and administration technique to navigate human nasal anatomy. In addition, in vitro and in vivo models utilized to evaluate the performance of nasal formulations do not accurately reflect deposition and uptake in the human nasal cavity. The current study describes the development of a respirable poly(

Virtual reality and 3D printing improve preoperative visualization of 3D liver reconstructions-results from a preclinical comparison of presentation modalities and user's preference.

BACKGROUND: Preoperative three-dimensional (3D) reconstructions for liver surgery planning have been shown to be effective in reduction of blood loss and operation time. However, the role of the 'presentation modality' is not well investigated. We present the first study to compare 3D PDFs, 3D printed models (PR) and virtual reality (VR) 3D models with regard to anatomical orientation and personal preferences in a high volume liver surgery center. METHODS: Thirty participants, 10 medical students, 10 residents, 5 fellows and 5 hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) experts, assigned the tumor-bearing s

Processable, High-Performance Circularly Polarized Luminescence Architectures for Information Interaction.

ConspectusChirality imparts spin to light─the intrinsic fingerprint of asymmetric matter. When optical spin interacts with molecular or supramolecular chirality, it generates distinctive chiroptical phenomena, with circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) attracting significant attention due to its optical activity and spin angular momentum. This asymmetric coupling enables the development of functional CPL-active materials, driving advancements in intelligent information interactions, including stereoscopic displays, secure information technologies, advanced imaging, and quantum photonics. 3D-printed porous titanium versus PEEK interbody cages in lumbar fusion: biomechanical rationale, clinical evidence, and emerging indications.

Lumbar interbody fusion is a cornerstone treatment for degenerative spinal conditions. PEEK cages offer an elastic modulus approximating cancellous bone and radiolucency, yet their bioinert surface can result in fibrous encapsulation rather than direct bone apposition. 3D-printed porous titanium (3D-pTi) cages address these limitations through an engineered porous architecture that reduces effective stiffness to near-cancellous bone levels while enabling bone ingrowth throughout the implant volume. This narrative review synthesizes evidence spanning in vitro surface science, large-animal model
