PURPOSE: To analyze the surgical results in 370 patients who underwent enucleation or evisceration at our center, during a period of 11 years (1990-2000), determining the kind of correction used and the complications associated with the procedure.
METHODS: This was a retrospective study of medical records from all patients who underwent surgery by the same surgeon (FS) in the Oculoplastic Department. Demographic data, diagnosis, previous and associated ophthalmic surgeries, implant or graft characteristics, follow up period and postoperative complications were determined in all patients.

PURPOSE: To describe our experience over 6 years using a new high-density polyethylene-based spherical integrated porous orbital implants (Oculfit).

Four patients with prenatal sonographic findings suggestive of ophthalmic pathology were detected in utero. The definitive diagnoses of infantile fibrosarcoma, persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous/persistent fetal vasculature, Fraser syndrome, and microphthalmia with coloboma and retrobulbar cyst were made postnatally. PURPOSE: We report a patient with basal cell carcinoma presenting with severe myiasis in a large ulcer involving the upper and lower eyelid.
METHODS: Myiasis is an infestation of vertebrate animals by larvae of certain fly species. About 70 larvae were removed manually. A biopsy of the tissue underneath demonstrated a basal cell carcinoma. The myiasis was produced by the fly Lucilia sericata, currently used for treating chronic nonhealing ulcers. OBJECTIVE: Rhino-orbital-cerebral mucormycosis is usually associated with a poor prognosis and is almost exclusively seen in immunocompromised patients. We report the third documented case of rhino-orbital-cerebral mucormycosis caused by Apophysomyces elegans (a new genus of the family Mucoraceae first isolated in 1979) in an immunocompetent individual. Orbital exenteration and radical debridement of involved adjacent structures combined with intravenous liposomal amphotericin resulted in patient survival.
