A perspective from magnetic resonance imaging findings of the inner ear: Relationships among cerebrospinal, ocular and inner ear fluids.

Visualization of endolymphatic hydrops has been performed using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) after intratympanic or intravenous gadolinium (Gd) injection. Our recent findings indicate that just as the prevalence of asymptomatic glaucoma is greater than that of symptomatic glaucoma, there are also many cases of asymptomatic endolymphatic hydrops. It is assumed that the asymptomatic endolymphatic hydrops that precedes Ménière's disease is found more frequently using MRI than with other techniques. Gd in the inner ear moves into the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) via the internal auditory meatus.

Controlled release of ciprofloxacin and ceftriaxone from a single ototopical administration of antibiotic-loaded polymer microspheres and thermoresponsive gel.

Acute otitis media (AOM) is the main indication for pediatric antibiotic prescriptions, accounting for 25% of prescriptions. While the use of topical drops can minimize the administered dose of antibiotic and adverse systemic effects compared to oral antibiotics, their use has limitations, partially due to low patient compliance, high dosing frequency, and difficulty of administration. Lack of proper treatment can lead to development of chronic OM, which may require invasive interventions. Previous studies have shown that gel-based drug delivery to the ear is possible with intratympanic inject

Gadolinium-enhanced MRI reveals dynamic development of endolymphatic hydrops in Ménière's disease.

INTRODUCTION: Meniere's disease is associated with impaired hearing, tinnitus, vertigo, and aural fullness. Many anatomical studies have suggested idiopathic endolymphatic hydrops as the pathological basis of Meniere's disease, which now can be visualized by using gadolinium -enhanced magnetic resonance imaging of the inner ear. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the development of endolymphatic hydrops in Meniere's disease by monitoring the vestibules and cochleae of affected patients. METHODS: Inner ears of 178 patients with definite unilateral Meniere's disease diagnosis were visualized by 3-dimen

Comparison between 3D-FLAIR and 3D-real IR MRI sequences with visual classification method in the imaging of endolymphatic hydrops in Meniere's disease.

BACKGROUND: Clinically, the evidence of endolymphatic hydrops (EH) in Meniere's disease (MD) primarily relies on audiological examinations, such as glycerol tests and electrocochleography, to suggest the presence of EH indirectly. However, these techniques lack sensitivity and specificity, and they do not sufficiently assess the degree of EH. This study aims to explore the application of three-dimensional fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (3D-FLAIR) and three-dimensional real inversion recovery (3D-real IR) sequence imaging of EH in MD and to assess the image quality and grading of EH. Perilymph pharmacokinetics of locally-applied gentamicin in the guinea pig.

Intratympanic gentamicin therapy is widely used clinically to suppress the vestibular symptoms of Meniere's disease. Dosing in humans was empirically established and we still know remarkably little about where gentamicin enters the inner ear, where it reaches in the inner ear and what time course it follows after local applications. In this study, gentamicin was applied to the round window niche as a 20 μL bolus of 40 mg/ml solution. Ten 2 μL samples of perilymph were collected sequentially from the lateral semi-circular canal (LSCC) at times from 1 to 4 h after application. Gentamicin concent

Betahistine alleviates benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) through inducing production of multiple CTRP family members and activating the ERK1/2-AKT/PPARy pathway.

BACKGROUND: Betahistine is a clinical medication for the treatment of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). Otolin, a secreted glycoprotein with a C-terminal globular domain homologous to the immune complement C1q, has been identified as a biomarker for BPPV. However, the role of complement C1q/TNF-related proteins (CTRPs) with a C-terminal globular domain in BPPV is unclear, so we explored the change of CTRPs in betahistine treated BPPV. METHODS: We treated BPPV patients with Betahistine (12 mg/time, 3 times/day) for 4 weeks and observed the clinical efficacy and the expression of CTR
