Two novel compounds Yexiangniuside A (1) and B (2) along with six known sesquiterpene lactones 3-8 were isolated from the aerial parts of Vernonia cinerea. The structures of the isolated compounds were conclusively determined through extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectral analyses. The absolute configurations of 1 and 2 were proposed based on computational ECD spectrum predictions, and their molecular formulas were determined using high-resolution mass spectrometry (HR-ESI-MS). Subsequently, the anti-inflammatory activities of compounds 1-8 were evaluated in a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW 26

The plant cuticle, which consists of cutin and waxes, forms a hydrophobic coating covering the aerial surfaces of all plants. It acts as an interface between plants and their surrounding environment whilst also protecting them against biotic and abiotic stresses. In this research, we have investigated the biodiversity and cuticle properties of aquatic plant duckweed, using samples isolated from four different locations around Hongze lake in Jiangsu province, China. The samples were genotyped using two chloroplast markers and nuclear ribosomal DNA markers, which revealed them as ecotypes of the

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: The dried rhizomes of Paris polyphylla var. yunnanensis are widely used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) as hemostatic, antitumor, and antimicrobial agents. More than 70 Chinese patent medicines are based on P. polyphylla var. yunnanensis rhizomes. Steroidal saponins are considered as the main active ingredients of these rhizomes. However, wild populations of P. polyphylla var. yunnanensis are greatly threatened due to the illegal wild harvest and over-utilization of the rhizomes. In contrast, the renewable above-ground parts (leaves and stems) of P. polyph

Salvia sclarea L. (clary sage) is widely used in Algerian traditional medicine, yet its essential oil from the Edough Mountains (northeastern Algeria) remains poorly characterized. An ethnobotanical survey among 85 informants revealed high recognition (RFC = 0.918) and versatility (UV = 1.671), with predominant uses against digestive, nervous, and gynecological disorders (ICF up to 0.88). Hydrodistillation of the aerial parts yielded 1.90% (w/w) of a pale-yellow essential oil dominated by oxygenated monoterpenes (68.95%), mainly linalyl anthranilate (47.75%), and linalool (16.24%). The oil sho

Elevated concentration of homocysteine (Hcy) in human plasma, defined as hyperhomocysteinemia has been correlated with some diseases, such as cardiovascular, neurodegenerative, and kidney disorders. Homocysteine occurs in human plasma in several forms, including the most reactive form of Hcy - its cyclic thioester - homocysteine thiolactone (HTL), which represents up to 0.29% of plasma total Hcy. It is suggested that Hcy and HTL may also act as oxidants, but various polyphenolic antioxidants are able to inhibit the oxidative damage induced by Hcy or HTL. The aim of our present study was to inv

Zanthoxylum tinguassuiba essential oil (ZtEO) contains α-bisabolol, a known antiglioma sesquiterpene, among other potentially active substances. Medical applications of this essential oil require advances in the design of distinctive carriers due to its low water solubility and easy degradation by heat, light, and oxygen. The aim of this work was to evaluate enhancement in oxidative stability and the ability to reduce glioblastoma cell viability of ZtEO loaded into liposomes. Multi- and unilamellar vesicles were prepared to carry ZtEO. By using thermal analysis, it was observed that thermal-ox
