Transepithelial corneal collagen crosslinking: bilateral study.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy of transepithelial collagen crosslinking (CXL) in patients with bilateral progressive keratoconus. SETTING: Outpatient ophthalmic clinic. DESIGN: Cohort study. METHODS: Patients with a history of bilateral progressive keratoconus were recruited. The worst eye was treated with transepithelial CXL, while the fellow eye was left untreated as a control. Transepithelial CXL was performed by applying an enhanced riboflavin solution (riboflavin 0.1%, dextrane T500 with trometamol [Tris-hydroxymethyl aminomethane] and EDTA [ethylenediaminetetraacetic] sodium salt)

Lower Corneal Haze and Aberrations in Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty Versus Descemet Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty in Fellow Eyes for Fuchs Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy.

PURPOSE: To investigate the long-term corneal changes in patients with Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy contributing to superior postoperative visual outcomes after Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) compared with Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK). METHODS: Using retrospective analysis, we evaluated 9 patients with Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy who underwent DSAEK in 1 eye and DMEK in the fellow eye. Patients were genotyped for the triplet repeat expansion in the TCF4 gene and imaged using optical coherence tomography, Scheimpflug imaging, a

Prospective, randomized, eye-to-eye comparison of a new silicone corneal shield versus conventional bandage contact lens after photorefractive keratectomy.

PURPOSE: To compare uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) and patient-reported outcomes with a new silicone corneal shield and a conventional bandage contact lens (BCL) after photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). SETTING: Stanford Eye Laser Center (Palo Alto, California) and Slade & Baker Vision (Houston, Texas). DESIGN: Prospective randomized cohort study. METHODS: Standardized bilateral wavefront-guided or wavefront-optimized PRK was performed in 25 patients with myopia. Each patient's dominant eye was randomized to either a silicone corneal shield or a conventional BCL, which was placed

Corneal Wavefront-Guided Transepithelial PRK Aligned to Comatic Axis After Corneal Cross-linking for Keratoconus.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the clinical outcomes of a comatic axis-adjusted corneal wavefront-guided transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy (TransPRK) protocol for visual rehabilitation in patients with keratoconus previously treated with corneal cross-linking (CXL). METHODS: In this prospective, non-randomized, consecutive case series, 24 eyes from 17 patients with stable stage I to III keratoconus after CXL underwent anterior wavefront-guided TransPRK centered on the comatic axis, using large optical zones and a tissue-saving ablation algorithm (⩽90 µm total, ⩽50 µm stromal). Main outcome me

Myoring implantation with and without cross-linking: Comparative study of pre and postoperative visual outcomes and pentacam indices.

ObjectivesComparing the visual, topographic, and aberrometric changes following Myoring implantation alone or combined with corneal cross-linking (CXL).MethodsThis retrospective, comparative study was conducted on keratoconus (KC) patients with moderate, central KC who sought medical advice at Watany Eye Hospital, Cairo, Egypt. Group 1 patients performed femtolaser-assisted Myoring implantation, while group 2 patients performed Myoring implantation with CXL.ResultsGroup 1 included 44 eyes, and group 2 comprised 40 eyes. The mean follow-up interval was 2.34 years ± 2.25. There was a significant

Development of a Reference Model for Keratoconus Progression Prediction Based on Characterization of the Course of Nonsurgically Treated Cases.

PURPOSE: To evaluate and characterize long-term clinical changes in keratoconus cases not requiring surgical treatment because of the absence of clinically significant visual degradation and to design a predictive model for the progression rate. METHODS: This retrospective longitudinal study enrolled 68 nonsurgically treated keratoconic eyes of 46 patients (age range, 18-66 years), with a follow-up period of 6 years ± 12 months. Visual, refractive, topographic, and aberrometric changes were evaluated, detecting the abnormal levels of longitudinal changes in each clinical variable analyzed (pe

Twelve-Month Visual, Refractive, and Ocular Wavefront Outcomes of SmartSight KLEx, Pooling Original and NOVA Workflows, on the SCHWIND ATOS: A Single-Surgeon Cohort Study.

INTRODUCTION: To report the visual, refractive, astigmatic, and ocular higher-order aberration (HOA) outcomes of keratorefractive lenticule extraction (KLEx) with the SCHWIND ATOS femtosecond laser platform in a large single-surgeon cohort. METHODS: In this retrospective consecutive series, 2518 eyes of 1292 patients underwent single-surgeon KLEx (SmartSight procedure, SCHWIND ATOS platform) for myopia or myopic astigmatism. Data from two treatment workflows were pooled: the original SmartSight lenticule workflow (1886 eyes) and, from 2025, SmartSight NOVA with CenTrax-assisted centration (63

[The effect of keratoconus-associated refractive errors on the results of tomographic methods of studying the posterior structures of the eye].

PURPOSE: The study assesses the potential influence of refractive errors in keratoconus (KC) on the results of tomographic methods of studying the structures of the posterior eye segment. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study included 30 patients with bilateral stabilized KC of stages I-IV in classification by M. Amsler. Spherical and cylindrical components of refractions were determined using automatic refractometry, keratometry measurements - based on scanning keratotopography with Scheimpflug analyzer. Aberrometry was performed to evaluate corneal wave front according to the following parameters

The impact of dry eye disease on visual performance while driving.

PURPOSE: A specific simulator was used to assess the driving visual performance in patients with dry eye disease (DED) and to determine clinical predictors of visual impairments while driving. DESIGN: Prospective case-control study. METHODS: The study was conducted in the Center for Clinical Investigation of Quinze-Vingts National Ophthalmology Hospital, Paris, France. Twenty dry eye patients and 20 age- and sex-matched control subjects were included. Vision-related driving ability was assessed using a specific driving simulator displaying randomly located targets with a progressive increase
