Corynebacteria, being ancient symbionts of open cavities of human body, carry unique, balanced immunogenic stimuli, formed in the process of evolution, thus maintaining non-specific resistance at a certain level. They favor formation of human microcenotic communities as a normal biological and physiological phenomenon. Codivak, a preparation of natural antigens of a symbiotic strain of non-toxigenic diphtherial corynebacteria, is able to correct not only disturbances of oropharyngeal immunity, but also general cell-mediated and humoral immunity disorders.

Six outbreaks of infectious syphilis in the United Kingdom, ongoing since 2012, have been investigated among men who have sex with men (MSM) and heterosexual men and women aged under 25 years. Interventions included case finding and raising awareness among healthcare professionals and the public. Targeting at-risk populations was complicated as many sexual encounters involved anonymous partners. Outbreaks among MSM were influenced by the use of geospatial real-time networking applications that allow users to locate other MSM within close proximity.

PURPOSE AND IMPORTANCE: Corynebacterium macginleyi, a lipophilic diphtheroid from the genus Corynebacteria, is a known cause of conjunctivitis. It was recently reported as a cause of serious infections in immunocompromised individuals. Immunogenicity of 13-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide (PnPS) conjugate vaccine (PCV13) was evaluated in 38 rheumatoid arthritis patients under immunosuppressive treatment and 20 healthy controls (HC). Antibodies to all PnPS and diphtheria-toxin analogue conjugate protein were measured pre- (T0), 1 (T1), 6 (T2), 12 (T3) months post-immunization. The Kyrgyz Republic experienced a widespread resurgence of diphtheria during 1994-1998. To describe the clinical characteristics and management of diphtheria patients hospitalized in 1995, a retrospective chart review was conducted. Pharyngitis is the only respiratory tract infection in which microbiologic diagnosis has immediate influence on the treatment decision.
