OBJECTIVE: To review the presentation of endometriosis, steps to diagnosis, and medical and surgical management options.
SOURCES OF INFORMATION: MEDLINE was searched from January 1996 to November 2004, EMBASE from January 1996 to January 2005, and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews for the 4th quarter of 2004.
MAIN MESSAGE: Endometriosis is a common, progressive disease with an estimated prevalence of 10%. It can cause dyspareunia, dysmenorrhea, low back pain, and infertility. It can be diagnosed on clinical grounds and treated without laparoscopy provided pregnancy is not desired.

Helicobacter pylori infection is thought to be a causal factor in various dermatological disorders. We assessed the frequency of H pylori infection in 65 patients with hereditary angioneurotic oedema. Nd-YAG laser photocoagulation was performed on ten patients with chronic menorrhagia in an attempt to either decrease the menstrual flow sufficiently to obviate the need for hysterectomy or to obtain amenorrhea. Adenomyosis is a benign uterine condition affecting women at various ages with different symptoms. The management of these patients is still controversial. Few clinical studies focusing on medical or surgical treatment for adenomyosis have been performed. AIM: Fibrocystic mastosis (FCM) is the most frequent benign breast lesion. Most treatments for fibrocystic mastosis are: hormonl, with beneficial results and non-hormonal, with fluctuating results.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A number of 210 cases were studied, which were divided into 7 groups. The study lasted for 9 months and it was carried out on the basis of a personal examination sheet. Treatment of patients with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) varies according to the severity of the condition, the patient's age and the phase of the disease. The mainstay of treatment is corticosteroid therapy, with splenectomy for non-responding patients. For the 5%-10% of patients with refractory disease and bleeding problems, intravenous immunoglobulins are often used. Danazol achieves a response in about 30%-40% of refractory patients. The patients with endometriosis have shown a significant increase in frequency in our country. In the recent years, the incidence of endometriosis in gynecological outpatients is probably 3%. In infertile patients, endometriosis has been demonstrated by laparoscopy in 20-30% of cases. The pregnancy rate of women with endometriosis has been noted to be 80-85% in the internal endometriosis and 50-60% in the external endometriosis. The risk of infertility is greater in women with external endometriosis than in women with internal endometriosis. The causes of infertility are multiple and additive.
