Lower Extremity Biomechanics During a Drop-Vertical Jump in Participants With or Without Chronic Ankle Instability.

CONTEXT: Chronic ankle instability (CAI) is a condition characterized by range-of-motion, neuromuscular, and postural-control deficits and subjective disability, reinjury, and posttraumatic osteoarthritis. Differences have been reported in kinematics, kinetics, surface electromyography (EMG), and ground reaction forces during functional tasks performed by those with CAI. These measures are often collected independently, and the research on collecting measures simultaneously during a movement task is limited. OBJECTIVE: To assess the kinematics and kinetics of the lower extremity, vertical gro

Evaluation of a hospital-based youth violence intervention.

To decrease adolescent morbidity and mortality and improve the quality of life, a violence-prevention consultation is offered to hospitalized victims of nondomestic violence. The context is a violence-prevention team approach to patient assessment, treatment, and follow-up. Psychoeducational counseling emphasizes the individual through a cognitive behavioral approach and also recognizes the individual in the proximal social setting through referrals to community resources. The in-hospital component draws on the health beliefs model, self-efficacy, the theory of reasoned action and their synerg

Prehabilitation for Patients Undergoing Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction Reduces Kinesiophobia Levels at 1-Year Postoperation.

BACKGROUND: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are the most common knee ligament injuries and ACL reconstruction (ACLR) is often required to restore stability and facilitate return-to-sport. However, kinesiophobia-fear of movement due to risk of reinjury-is prevalent post-ACLR (62% to 78%) and linked to poor return-to-sport outcomes despite good physical recovery. HYPOTHESIS: Patient, injury, surgery, and rehabilitation factors can be associated with elevated kinesiophobia in patients undergoing primary ACLR. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level 3. METH

Objective Return-to-Sport (RTS) Decision Frameworks for Adolescent Shoulder and Elbow Injuries: Tests, Thresholds and Exercise Targets.

BACKGROUND: Adolescent shoulder and elbow injuries are increasing due to sports specialization and year-round training, yet return-to-sport decisions typically rely on adult-derived heuristics that fail to address the unique physiology, growth plate vulnerability, and recovery needs of developing athletes aged 10-19 years. OBJECTIVE: This review proposes a novel, objective three-pillar RTS framework integrating: (1) foundational tissue capacity, (2) dynamic movement quality and neuromuscular control, and (3) sport-specific load tolerance. We synthesize current evidence to establish provisiona

Eccentric-Oriented Strength Training in Anterior Cruciate Ligament Rehabilitation: A Scoping Review.

Background and Objectives: Persistent quadriceps weakness, muscle atrophy, and functional deficits are common following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction and may compromise return to sport and increase the risk of reinjury. Eccentric-oriented strength training has been widely used to enhance muscle strength and hypertrophy in various musculoskeletal conditions; however, its specific application within ACL rehabilitation remains insufficiently explored. The aim of this scoping review was to map the existing evidence on the use of eccentric-oriented strength training in ACL rehabil
