Effect of the recombinant amelogenin peptide TRAP on remineralization of early enamel caries: an in-situ study.

BACKGROUND: The tyrosine-rich amelogenin peptide (TRAP) is the main enzymatic hydrolysis product of amelogenin during enamel development. The TRAP peptide has been shown to promote the remineralization of early enamel caries in vitro. The aim of this crossover blinded and randomized study was to evaluate the impact of recombinant amelogenin peptide TRAP on the remineralization of initial enamel caries lesions in situ. METHODS: The binding capacity of recombinant amelogenin peptide TRAP to hydroxyapatite (HA) and a demineralized enamel surface was analyzed by a Langmuir adsorption isotherm exp

Adhesive system containing Bioglass 45S5 particles in teeth affected by molar-incisor hypomineralization and quality of life impact: study protocol for a randomized clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: Molar-incisor hypomineralization (MIH) is a systemic condition characterized by a qualitative defect in the dental enamel. It primarily affects the first permanent molars and is often associated with the permanent incisors. Resin restorations in MIH-affected teeth consistently show worse results than those in normal teeth because of the ultrastructure of hypomineralized enamel, which compromises adhesion. The incorporation of bioactive particles into adhesives is a promising option for inducing remineralization. This study protocol describes a randomized clinical trial evaluating r

Multifunctional PAMAM nanoparticles with sequential antimicrobial-remineralization therapy for dentin caries management.

Dentin caries is a multifactorial pathological process characterized by bacterial colonization and biofilm formation that result in concurrent acid-mediated demineralization and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-mediated degradation of the collagenous matrix. While remineralization therapies offer minimal invasiveness, their long-term efficacy is compromised by ongoing collagen degradation and persistent bacterial acid production that counteract remineralization efforts. To address these limitations, we designed PAMAM-G4@EG (PGE) nanoparticles (NPs) using polyamide amine (PAMAM) dendrimers as min

Remineralization potential of a novel varnish: an in vitro comparative evaluation.

Despite fluoride's widespread use in preventing dental caries, it remains a significant oral disease with some drawbacks. Consequently, new preventative agents have emerged that can function independently of fluoride. Our aim is to demonstrate the efficacy of newly developed varnishes, 3% Rennou (theobromine calcium and phosphate) and 1% Rennou, in remineralizing initial caries. In our experiment, 40 human enamel samples were randomly allocated into four groups of 10 samples each as: Group 1 (G1): 5% NaF (Colgate PreviDent®), Group 2 (G2): 1% Rennou®, Group 3 (G3): 3% Rennou® and Group 4 (G4):

Evaluation of the relationship between salivary levels of Streptococcus mutans, statherin, and cathelicidin LL-37 and early childhood caries.

BACKGROUND: Although caries is known to be influenced by diet and oral hygiene factors, susceptibility to the disease may be reduced by host factors, such as saliva antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). However, the relationship between salivary AMPs and early childhood caries (ECC) remains limited. Among the AMPs, cathelicidin LL-37 is mentioned in the literature for its bactericidal activity against oral pathogens, while statherin is recognized for its mechanism of reducing hydroxyapatite demineralization on the tooth surface. Cathelicidin LL-37 is a significant class of proteins within the immune

The effect of different glass ionomer cements and surface coating applications on fluoride release and microhardness values.

BACKGROUND: The glass-ionomer cements have many advantages such as the ability to form chemical bonding at the tooth-restoration interface, release and recharge of fluoride, low cytotoxicity and high biocompatibility. But their low mechanical properties and susceptibility to moisture contamination during hardening limit their usage the regions exposed to high stress. The surface coatings used to protect the physical and mechanical properties of the material reduce fluoride release. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the effects of different glass-ionomer cements and surface coatings on flu

Guided tissue remineralisation of partially demineralised human dentine.

Biomineralisation is a well-regulated process mediated by extracellular matrix proteins. Biomimetic remineralisation strategies should reproduce the dimension and structural hierarchy of apatite deposits within a demineralised collagen matrix. Interfibrillar and intrafibrillar remineralisation of phosphoric acid-etched human dentine was demonstrated in this study using a Portland cement/phosphate-containing fluid system in the presence of polyacrylic acid and polyvinylphosphonic acid as respective calcium phosphate- and collagen-binding matrix protein analogues. Metastable amorphous calcium ph
