Health inequalities in cancer care: a literature review of pathways to diagnosis in the United Kingdom.

This literature review discusses current health disparities in cancer care in the United Kingdom, spanning access to services, diagnosis, and outcomes. These inequities stem from a complex interplay of factors such as health literacy, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, age, gender, geography, and lifestyle choices. Health literacy plays a crucial role in timely healthcare seeking and diagnosis, while cultural beliefs significantly shape perceptions and behaviours. Socioeconomic barriers often result in delayed diagnosis and inferior outcomes due to limited access to preventive measures and high-

"Let him die. He caused it": A qualitative study on cancer stigma in Tanzania.

Cancer stigma presents a critical barrier to care seeking, contributing to delayed presentation and poor cancer outcomes worldwide. The burden of cancer in Tanzania is on the rise, with cancer being the third-leading cause of death in the country. Despite rising incidence and poor outcomes of cancer, cancer-related stigma interventions have received low prioritization. There is a need for sound research that focuses on understanding attitudes driving stigma, its impact on care-seeking and treatment adherence, and intervention models to reduce stigma. We used a cross-sectional qualitative study

A new hope with CAR T-cell therapy for refractory idiopathic inflammatory myopathies: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Treatment options for refractory idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs) remain limited, and sustained remission is frequently not achieved with conventional immunosuppression or biologic agents. Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy has been approved for multiple refractory hematologic malignancies and is increasingly being explored as an immune reset strategy for autoimmune diseases. MAIN BODY: This Review synthesizes all available clinical evidence on CAR T-cell therapy in adult and pediatric IIM, with the aim of raising awareness within the rheumatology community re

Digital therapeutics from bench to bedside.

As a new therapeutic technique based on digital technology, the commercialization and clinical application of digital therapeutics (DTx) are increasing, and the demand for expansion to new clinical fields is remarkably high. However, the use of DTx as a general medical component is still ambiguous, and this ambiguity may be owing to a lack of consensus on a definition, in addition to insufficiencies in research and development, clinical trials, standardization of regulatory frameworks, and technological maturity. In this study, we conduct an in-depth investigation and analysis of definitions,

Enabling exercise prescription for survivors of cancer.

Although exercise is widely recommended for survivors of cancer, readily implementable approaches for evaluating exercise tolerance enabling exercise prescriptions at appropriate levels of cardiovascular exertion are not always available. We evaluated the utility of modified Harvard Step tests within the context of a standard physical examination for fitness evaluation and exercise prescription for survivors of cancer across a range of age, BMI and exercise history. While 52% of presenting individuals with a past cancer diagnosis were able to complete a 3-min test at pace with a reduced 9-in.

Targeting the Cancer-Neuronal Crosstalk in the Pancreatic Cancer Microenvironment.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) represents one of the most aggressive solid tumors with a dismal prognosis and an increasing incidence. At the time of diagnosis, more than 85% of patients are in an unresectable stage. For these patients, chemotherapy can prolong survival by only a few months. Unfortunately, in recent decades, no groundbreaking therapies have emerged for PDAC, thus raising the question of how to identify novel therapeutic druggable targets to improve prognosis. Recently, the tumor microenvironment and especially its neural component has gained increasing interest in the

Italian onco-haematological patients' preferences in bad news communication: a preliminary investigation.

BackgroundThe manner in which bad news is communicated in oncological contexts can affect patients' engagement, their coping strategies and therapeutic compliance. Although this topic has been broadly investigated since the nineties, to the best of our knowledge, little has been written about Italian patients' experiences and preferences concerning what the oncologists should disclose and how they should intimate patients about their health conditions in different stages of oncological disease.MethodsIn an attempt to fill this gap, an online self-report questionnaire was administered to a samp

Cardiovascular Symptom Tracking Among Patients With Cancer in Cardio-Oncology Care: Qualitative Study Using the Capability, Opportunity, Motivation-Behavior (COM-B) Framework.

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular disease is a leading noncancer cause of morbidity and mortality among individuals diagnosed with cancer. Although modern cancer therapies have improved survival, many are associated with cardiotoxic effects that increase the risk of cardiovascular complications. Early identification of cardiovascular symptoms and signs may support timely clinical management. However, tracking cardiovascular health during cancer care can be complex for both patients and medical team participants, and important indicators, such as blood pressure changes, heart rate variability, fluid r
