BACKGROUND: Pseudophacocele is a rare complication of blunt trauma in pseudophakic eyes. CASE: We present a case of 60-year-old male who presented with pseudophacocele after injury from a bicycle handle. On presentation, visual acuity in the right eye was perception of light (PL) in 2 quadrants (superior and temporal) and left eye was 20/20. A PCIOL was seen superonasally in the right subconjunctival space with total hyphaema. Ultrasound demonstrated vitreous haemorrhage with membranes in right eye. We describe the surgical management and further clinical course of the patient. CONCLUSION: I

Conjunctival Lesions: When Should We Perform Biopsy?

INTRODUCTION: The conjunctiva is a thin and flexible mucus membrane that provides a protective barrier for the eye. Very few histopathologic studies have been conducted on biopsies from conjunctival lesions (CL) in central India. OBJECTIVE: To study the spectrum of CL and define those lesions that need attention with regard to need of biopsy in order to prevent grave sequelae and ocular morbidity. RESULTS: Degenerative conditions such as pterygium followed by pinguicula were the commonest lesions seen in conjunctiva. Out of 129 subjects, youngest in the series was 3 years old while oldest pa

Chronic blepharitis like picture in patients with Discoid lupus erythematosis - Case series.

BACKGROUND: Blepharitis is a very common condition encountered in ophthalmology outpatient care department. Dermatological diseases like seborrheic keratopathy and rosacea have been frequently discussed as being associated with blepharitis. However Discoid lupus erythematosis [DLE], an autoimmune condition has only rarely been reported to involve the eyelids mimicking blepharitis. DLE affecting the eyelids can produce significant morbidity with lid deformities, trichiasis and symblepharon if left untreated. OBJECTIVE: To report three consecutive cases of DLE with eyelid lesions mimicking blep

Nocardia Arthritidis Keratitis: Case Report and Review of the Literature.

INTRODUCTION: Keratitis due to Nocardia infection is not commonly encountered in clinical practice and may therefore be mistaken for fungal or viral keratitis leading to delayed treatment and increased risk of permanent visual impairment. CASE: An otherwise healthy 27 years old Caucasian Active Duty military member presented to the clinic with three days of light sensitivity and irritation of his right eye. He carried a history of PRK in both eyes six years prior and admitted to recent contact lens overuse. With empiric treatment for typical bacterial keratitis including corticosteroids, his

Collagen cross-linking in recalcitrant corneal ulcers: A case series.

INTRODUCTION: Corneal ulcer is a leading cause of blindness worldwide. Many of these patients don't respond to conventional treatment with topical agents. Collagen cross-linking (CXL) has been suggested to avoid complications requiring emergency keratoplasty. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Six eyes with presumed bacterial keratitis not responding to conventional treatment underwent CXL with ultraviolet A rays and transepithelial riboflavin. Patients with Descematocele and perforated ulcers were excluded. Preoperatively and postoperatively slit lamp examination of cornea and visual acuity recording was

Visual outcome and early complications of sutureless and glueless scleral fixated intraocular lens.

INTRODUCTION: In the absence of capsular support, anterior chamber intraocular lens (IOL), iris fixated IOL and sutured scleral fixated intraocular lens (SFIOL) implantation have been performed for many years. Recently sutureless glued SFIOL have been used as a primary or secondary procedure to correct aphakia. In this study we have used sutureless and glueless technique of SFIOL implantation. METHODOLOGY: An interventional case series was conducted. Aphakic patients without capsular support, sub-luxated lens (>180°), dislocated lens and dislocated IOL were the inclusion criteria. The patient

OBJECTIVE: To report a very rare case of HZO with retrobulbar neuritis with detailed clinical features and treatment responses. CASE: A fifty-eight- year old male presented with Herpes zoster-retrobulbarneuritis in the left eye. It was characterized by decreased visual acuity, mid dilated pupil with sluggish reaction, normal optic disc and central scotoma in Humphrey visual field. Nocardia Keratitis following penetrating corneal injury treated with topical ampicillin.

BACKGROUND: Nocardia keratitis following surgical management of penetrating corneal injury is very rare. CASE: A 38-year-old male presented with a deep stromal corneal infiltration with hypopyon of 10 days duration in his left eye. He had undergone a corneal tear repair on that eye 15 days prior to the onset of keratitis. The infiltrations were along the sutured corneal tear tracts. Before presenting to us, he was treated empirically with hourly topical antifungal and antibiotic for 10 days with poor clinical response. Microbiological investigations revealed the presence of Nocardia in both s

Outcomes of external dacryocystorhinostomy and endoscopic endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy in the management of nasolacrimal duct obstruction.

INTRODUCTION: Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) is the treatment of choice for nasolacrimal duct obstruction. Although external DCR is regarded as the gold standard, endoscopic DCR is evolving as an equally-effective alternative. Objectives To compare the success rate of treating nasolacrimal duct obstruction by endoscopic endonasal method compared to the conventional DCR surgery. Materials and methods This prospective, comparative, non-randomised study was conducted in 2009 - 2010. Thirty consecutive patients undergoing endoscopic endonasal DCR (Group 1) and 30 consecutive patients undergoing exter
