Correction of Posterior Crossbite Using Rapid Maxillary Expansion in a Nine-Year-Old Boy: A Case Report.

Maxillary constriction with a Class III malocclusion in the mixed dentition stage presents a unique challenge that requires early and customized orthodontic intervention. This case report highlights the management of a nine-year-old male patient with maxillary deficiency, an edge-to-edge incisor relationship, and a unilateral posterior crossbite using a modified Hyrax-type rapid maxillary expander (RME) with both anterior and posterior expansion capabilities. A fixed, bonded acrylic Hyrax-type RME with anterior extensions was designed to achieve three-dimensional maxillary expansion. Prevalence of Impacted Canines among Dental Patients in the Industrial Workers of Hyderabad - A Radiographic Study.

BACKGROUND: Impacted teeth have a low prevalence but exhibit a very uneven distribution. Among dental visits, impaction is one of the most common issues encountered. The causes of impaction can can vary from person to person, including factors such as a lack of calcium, retained deciduous tooth, or the presence of supernumerary teeth that interfere with the normal eruption pattern. The presence of impacted teeth can hinder the progress of orthodontic treatment. Therefore, understanding the prevalence of impacted teeth is crucial for effective treatment planning. This study aims to examine the

Preventive and interceptive orthodontics for the 5 to 12 year-old. Functional appliances: the Nite-Guide and Occlus-o-Guide techniques.

hree orthodontic procedures are described that are used to prevent, intercept, and correct malocclusions at three distinct stages of dental development. Each stage of development (5 to 7 years, 8 to 12 years, and 12 years through adulthood) uses an appliance selected from a series of several preformed sizes. All have predicted socket dimensions to receive unerupted, erupting or fully erupted teeth. These sockets are prearranged in a perfect Class I occlusion. In the first group of appliances, specifically designed for the 5 to 7 year-old (called Nite-Guide), one selects a single size that is l

Malposition of unerupted mandibular second premolar in children with palatally displaced canines.

OBJECTIVE: To test the hypotheses that (1) the distal angulation of unerupted mandibular premolar (MnP2) is significantly greater in children with palatally displaced canines (PDC) than in those in a control sample; and (2) delayed tooth formation is significantly more frequent in children with both malposed MnP2 and PDC than in children with PDC only. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We examined retrospectively panoramic radiographs from 43 patients with PDC who had no previous orthodontics. A control sample consisted of age- and sex-matched patients. The distal angle formed between the long axis of M

Extreme root resorption associated with induced tooth movement: a protocol for clinical management.

Cases in which teeth have only the cervical third remaining from orthodontically induced external root resorption, cast the following doubts: 1) What care should be taken to keep these teeth in mouth with the least risk possible? 2) What care should be taken with regards to reading of imaging exams, particularly in terms of accurately determining cervical root and bone loss? 3) Why is not endodontic treatment recommended in these cases? The present study aims at shedding light on the aforementioned topics so as to induce new insights into the theme.

Combined treatment of surgical extrusion and crown lengthening procedure for severe crown-root fracture of a growing patient: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Preservation of a healthy periodontium is critical for the long-term success of restored teeth. In cases of extensive caries, tooth fracture, inadequate crown length, and increased esthetic demands, the restorative margins need to be placed apical to the gingival margin. Violation of the biological width due to dental trauma frequently appears in clinical practice. There are three treatment options for preserving biological width and the ferrule effect: crown lengthening, orthodontic extrusion, and surgical extrusion. This case report describes the surgical intervention and fixed p

Root contact during insertion of miniscrews for orthodontic anchorage increases the failure rate: an animal study.

OBJECTIVES: Miniscrews and miniplates are increasingly being used for absolute anchorage during orthodontic treatment. However, potential problems of damaging adjacent roots and their consequences during mini-implant placement in the alveolar process have not been clearly described. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Animal experiments were used to evaluate the stability of miniscrews placed with intentional root contact. The root repair was evaluated after screw removal. Seventy-two miniscrews were surgically placed in the mandibular alveolar bone of six adult mongrel dogs with metabolic bone labeling a

Periodontal Mechanoreceptor Contribution to Minimal Holding Force Between Incisor Teeth.

BACKGROUND: The functional importance of periodontal mechanoreceptors (PMRs) is highlighted by impaired force control when periodontal input is reduced or absent. Previous studies used handheld transducers to measure the minimum holding force between the incisors. In the present study, a high-resolution force transducer was held passively between the incisors against gravity. OBJECTIVE: To quantify the contribution of anterior PMRs to minimum holding force and examine the effects of body position and periodontal health. METHODS: Twenty healthy adults (12 females, 8 males; 23.2 ± 1.9 years) p

Association Between Odontoma and Impacted Teeth.

Odontoma is considered to be the most common odontogenic tumor of the oral cavity. Most odontomas are asymptomatic and are discovered during routine radiographic investigations and can cause disturbances in the eruption of the teeth, most commonly delayed eruption or deflection. By a retrospective study design, demographic and clinical data regarding patients who presented odontomas from year 1995 to 2015 were obtained in order and the influence of active therapy on the dentition and on the treatment of impacted teeth was analyzed. Forty-five patients (mean age 14.2 years) with 29 complex and

A novel approach for building up infraoccluded ankylosed primary molars in cases of missing premolars: A case report.

BACKGROUND: In cases of infraoccluded primary molars associated with agenesis of premolars, any treatment plan occasionally includes retention of the primary teeth for space preservation and future implant placement if needed. In these cases, building up the crowns to the occlusal line is necessary to prevent various clinical problems. The present case report describes in detail a novel but simple clinical approach for retention and building up of the crown of infraoccluded primary molars.
