Comprehensive x-ray, ultrasonic and radionuclide examinations of 131 patients with chronic sialadenitis (n = 50), sialosis (n = 59), sialolithiasis (n = 9), autoimmune disorders (n = 6), and bulky processes (n = 7) of the parotid salivary glands were carried out. The diagnostic potentialities of each method in every of these conditions were analyzed. No correlation between the structural and functional disorders of the parotid glands could be traced. Primary cultures of sheep thyroid cells have been used to study regulation of thyroid growth and function by growth factors and TSH. Cells were plated at low density to minimize contributions from the endogenously produced insulin-like growth factors and their binding proteins and other proteins or hormones secreted by thyroid cells in culture. Growth of the cells was followed for 7-11 days in medium without serum. We found that TSH by itself was unable to stimulate thyroid growth. The diffuse form of pigmented villonodular synovitis of eight knee joints of eight patients was treated by intra-articular injection of 185 MBq yttrium-90 silicate (90Y). Six patients had a recurrence of disease after one or two surgical synovectomies. PURPOSE: Based on previous evidence of muscle fiber injury and decreased blood flow in the extensor carpi radialis brevis (ECRB) muscle in lateral epicondylitis (LE), we hypothesized that there would also be an abnormal (vasoconstrictive) vascular response to adrenaline in the ECRB muscle in LE.

We report two cases of thyrotoxicosis resulting from hyperfunctioning lung metastases from differentiated thyroid cancer.
