The human auditory system has an exceptional ability to separate competing sounds, but the neural mechanisms that underlie this ability are not understood. Responses of inferior colliculus (IC) neurons to "mistuned" complex tones were measured to investigate possible neural mechanisms for spectral segregation. We tested the efficacy of quinupristin/dalfopristin, an antibiotic made up of dalfopristin (70%) and quinupristin (30%) against a large panel of Streptococcus pneumoniae strains. The pneumococcal isolates (217) included 200 penicillin-resistant and 17 penicillin-susceptible clinical isolates. Isolated rabbit ears were single-pass perfused with a protein-free medium. Permethrin (0.05-23.5%, w/w) was applied in four distinct ointments. A review of the last 10 years of research on impulse noise reveals certain insights and perspectives on the biological and audiological effects of exposures to impulse noise. Tympanostomy tubes (TT) are frequently employed as treatment for otitis media (OM) although there is little-clinical or experimental evidence of their efficacy.
