Histological, ultrastructural and quantitative investigations on the response of healthy human pulps to experimental capping with mineral trioxide aggregate: a randomized controlled trial.

AIM: To investigate the pulpal response to direct pulp capping in healthy human teeth with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) as against calcium hydroxide cement (Dycal) as control. METHODOLOGY: Twenty healthy human third molars had iatrogenic pulpotomy and direct pulp capping with MTA. Another 13 teeth were capped with Dycal as controls. The teeth were restored, with IRM, clinically reviewed and extracted after a number of pre-determined intervals (1 week, 1 month and 3 months). The specimens were fixed, decalcified, subdivided axially into two halves in the oro-buccal (lingual-buccal) plane,

Synchrotron imaging of dentition provides insights into the biology of Hesperornis and Ichthyornis, the "last" toothed birds.

BACKGROUND: The dentitions of extinct organisms can provide pivotal information regarding their phylogenetic position, as well as paleobiology, diet, development, and growth. Extant birds are edentulous (toothless), but their closest relatives among stem birds, the Cretaceous Hesperornithiformes and Ichthyornithiformes, retained teeth. Despite their significant phylogenetic position immediately outside the avian crown group, the dentitions of these taxa have never been studied in detail. To obtain new insight into the biology of these 'last' toothed birds, we use cutting-edge visualisation tec

The antibacterial effect of chlorohexidine, Er:YAG laser and diode laser 980 nm as dental cavity disinfectants of dentine: an in vitro study.

OBJECTIVES: Comparison between different disinfection modalities in reducing Streptococcus mutans count within dental cavities. RESEARCH QUESTION: whether using an antibacterial agent has a value in reducing the bacterial load in the dental cavity and what is the best modality. Cariogenic bacteria can remain viable in the dentine even after complete removal of caries, so the use of cavity disinfectants before restoration placement is crucial, such as chlorohexidine, Er:YAG and Diode laser 980 nm. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the antibacterial effect of chlorohexidine, Er:

Radiographic evaluation of dental age of adults using Kvaal's method.

INTRODUCTION: It is a well-known fact that the assessment of the dental development can be related to an individual's age, but after the age of 21 years when the wisdom teeth also complete their development, there arises a need for an optimal age estimation procedure. With advancing age, there is a reduction in the size of the pulp due to secondary dentin deposition and a measurement of this reduction can also be used as a parameter to assess the age of the individuals, both in the living and dead. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the feasibility of this a

[RECONSTRUCTING THE LIFE OF AN UNKNOWN MAN--INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACH].

The remains of a tomb were discovered below the foundations of the Roman church of “Majka Bozja Gorska” in Lobor in 2002. It was a vaulted tomb carved from a single stone. The narthex of ancient Christian and pre-roman churches often served as the resting place of religious, secular and noble dignitaries, who were credited for founding the church at the time. By anthropological methods, the age, gender, height, pathological changes, tendon and ligament hinges and degree of development were able to be analysed. The stable isotopes of Carbon-13, Nitrogen-15 and Oxygen-18 were analysed and expres

Comparative Evaluation of the Clinical Performance of Two-step and One-step Self-etching Adhesive Systems and Self-etching Self-adhesive Composite in Permanent Molars in Pediatric Patients: A Three-arm Parallel Randomized Clinical Study.

BACKGROUND: The most prevalent disease that affects people is dental caries. The illness needs to be restored after it has been cavitated. Over the past few decades, dental adhesives that are used to adhere composite resins to tooth structure have changed. Composites were created to satisfy the needs of long-lasting, esthetically pleasing restorative materials. The micromechanical interlocking between the resin and enamel's hydroxyapatite caused the bonding process. Bonding to enamel has developed into a dependable process throughout time. Bonding to dentin, on the other hand, has shown less c

Pulp-capping with recombinant human insulin-like growth factor I (rhIGF-I) in rat molars.

The aim of this study was to explore pulp healing and reparative dentinogenesis following pulp-capping by using recombinant human insulin-like growth factor I (rhIGF-I). Exposures were made through the mesial pulp horn in first upper molars in two-month-old Wistar rats. The pulp was covered with one dose of sterile 4% methylcellulose gel containing either 400 ng rhIGF-I or saline in contralateral controls. The exposure site was closed with sterile Teflon membrane, and the cavity was filled with IRM cement. Additional molars were capped with Dycal as controls. After 3, 7, or 28 days, animals we

Immune Cells and Molecular Networks in Experimentally Induced Pulpitis.

Dental pulp is a dynamic tissue able to resist external irritation during tooth decay by using immunocompetent cells involved in innate and adaptive responses. To better understand the immune response of pulp toward gram-negative bacteria, we analyzed biological mediators and immunocompetent cells in rat incisor pulp experimentally inflamed by either lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or saline solution (phosphate-buffered saline [PBS]). Untreated teeth were used as control. Expression of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines, chemokine ligands, growth factors, and enzymes were evaluated at the transcrip

The dental cavities of equine cheek teeth: three-dimensional reconstructions based on high resolution micro-computed tomography.

BACKGROUND: Recent studies reported on the very complex morphology of the pulp system in equine cheek teeth. The continuous production of secondary dentine leads to distinct age-related changes of the endodontic cavity. Detailed anatomical knowledge of the dental cavities in all ages is required to explain the aetiopathology of typical equine endodontic diseases. Furthermore, data on mandibular and maxillary pulp systems is in high demand to provide a basis for the development of endodontic therapies. However, until now examination of the pulp cavity has been based on either sectioned teeth or

Dental Practitioners' Thresholds for Restorative Intervention in Carious Lesions: A Survey-Based Systematic Review Update.

UNLABELLED: <p>Introduction: Despite evidence supporting the clinical and cost-effectiveness of minimally invasive dentistry (MID), its adoption by the dental profession has been slow. A systematic review in 2016 found the majority of dentists intervene invasively earlier than necessary. The aim was to update this review of the assessment of dental practitioners' thresholds for providing restorative treatment for carious lesions given changes in evidence, teaching, and guidelines since 2016. The primary outcome was dental practitioners' restorative thresholds (the extent of the lesion when the
