BACKGROUND: The genus Allostoma von Beneden, 1861 (Pseudostomidae Graff, 1904) consists of generally small, often conspicuously colored species. These organisms are typically found on hard bottoms, in gravel, or among algae in marine and brackish-water environments. The Pseudostomid taxon encompasses approximately 55 known species globally, spanning regions across Europe, Asia, and North and South America. In Japan, however, only three species of this taxon have been reported to date: Allostoma durum (Fuhrmann, 1896), Allostoma densissimabursa (Omi, 2020) comb. nov., and Cylindrostoma monotroc

BACKGROUND: The subfamily Opiinae comprises more than 2,000 valid species worldwide. Members of this subfamily are koinobiont endoparasitoids, with parasitism generally culminating in the eventual death of the host. Several species of Opiinae have been utilised for biological control of agricultural pests. The genus Opius is the largest genus within Opiinae, with more than 1,000 valid species worldwide. It is divided into several subgenera, classification of which remains under active discussion. The genus Apodesmia was formerly regarded as a subgenus of Opius, but was elevated to genus level,

BACKGROUND: Khorata Huber, 2005 contains 52 species distributed in Cambodia, China, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam, out of which about 34 species have been recorded from China. It can be distinguished from all other genera of Pholcidae by the male chelicerae with lateral ledges and the cheliceral apophyses with cuticular ridges or scales. The femur of the male palp features a retrolateral apophysis. The male palp is small, characterised by a prolaterally attached genital bulb that lacks projections, except for the embolus. The carapace exhibits a shallow median groove and the female abdomen shows

Flying fox (Pteropushypomelanus) belongs to the frugivorous bats, which play a crucial role in maintaining proper functioning of an ecosystem and conservation of the environment. Bats are well-known carriers of pathogenic viruses, such as BatCov RaTG13 from the coronavirus family that share 90.55% with SARS-CoV-2, the pathogen causing recent global pandemic coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19). However, bats' possible role as a carrier of pathogenic bacteria is less explored. Here, using metabarcoding analysis through high-throughput sequencing, we explored the gut microbiome composition of diffe

Malaysia is a tropical country that has consistently been facing a prevalent threat of mosquito-borne diseases. Amongst the plethora of diseases, the most common mosquito-borne disease in the country is dengue fever, transmitted by Aedes spp. mosquitoes. This study aims to examine the effects of human activity associated with different land use on mosquito population composition and diversity. Our study site is Chini Lake, a naturally occurring lake and the second-largest freshwater body in Malaysia. The areas surrounding the Lake have been subjected to various human activities, such as econom

The main objective of this study is to present a new record of Tasserkidriluscf.americanus found in a channel near the Tešmak swamp in Slovakia (Central Europe) and to compare its morphological features and habitat requirements with those of populations occurring in North America and Europe. The new specimens are similar to those found in The Netherlands and Belgium, but dissimilar to previously reported North American material of T.americanus, reopening the question of whether the European form is a separate species. The European form has the penis sheaths approximately twice as long as and w

BACKGROUND: The genus Kurisakia Takahashi, 1924 belongs to the subfamily Thelaxinae (Hemiptera, Aphididae) and currently comprises seven valid species worldwide. Kurisakia querciphila Takahashi, 1960 was originally described from Japan as a subspecies of K. onigurumii and was subsequently recognised as a distinct species. In Korea, Paik recorded K. onigurumii, a record that was later referred to K. querciphila. Nevertheless, the current National Species List of Korea lists only K. onigurumii within the genus Kurisakia, whereas K. querciphila is not included.

Research Infrastructures are increasingly central to scientific discovery, innovation and evidence-informed policy, but their management requires the integration of many dimensions that are often treated separately. This paper proposes an eleven-tenet framework for the integrated, evolving and sustainable management of European Research Infrastructure Consortia, extending existing tenet-based approaches by adding the explicit dimension of enabling scientific excellence. The framework brings together scientific, technological, economic, administrative, political, legal, societal, environmental,

BACKGROUND: The nymphs of Potamanthellus unicutibius Nguyen & Bae, 2003 possess filtering mouthparts and modified fore-legs. However, no adults are known.
NEW INFORMATION: In this study, both nymphal and imaginal stages of this species were collected and reared from China. Morphological examination reveals that these specimens differ markedly from all other members of Potamanthellus Lestage, 1931. In addition to the filtering nymphal morphology, the males of this species are characterised by more distinctly developed penes, longer tibiae and cerci and smaller compound eyes compared to those o

This study provides the first quantitative dataset on leaf morphometric diversity for Quercus trojana subsp. euboica (Papaioannou) K.I.Chr., a narrow endemic oak of Greece. This subspecies is of high conservation priority, listed in the Red Data Book of Rare and Threatened Plants of Greece and its restricted range in Northern Euboea was heavily impacted by a catastrophic wildfire in 2021. We sampled 301 leaves from three natural populations (Kerasia1, Kerasia2 and Prokopi) and processed them using a custom Python pipeline to extract 14 size and shape variables. BACKGROUND: The genus Aximopsis sensu lato (Hymenoptera, Eurytomidae) is a cosmopolitan group of parasitoid wasps, currently comprising 43 described species. The genus is defined by a suite of homoplastic morphological characters and its taxonomic boundaries remain unstable, with recent molecular phylogenies indicating paraphyly. The nodularis species group, which accounts for approximately half of the known species, includes parasitoids of various endophytic insects. While host associations with small carpenter bees of the genus Ceratina (Apidae) have been documented for a few eurytomid speci
