Lafutidine is a new type antiulcer agent with antisecretory and gastroprotective activities. We investigated the effect of lafutidine on indomethacin-induced antral ulcer in refed rats. Subcutaneous indomethacin injection resulted in the formation of gastric antral ulcer. Lafutidine (1-10 mg/kg, p.o.) reduced the area of ulcer in a dose-dependent manner when administered immediately after the indomethacin injection. We examined the mechanism by which leminoprazole (an acid pump inhibitor) stimulates mucus synthesis in rats. Leminoprazole and omeprazole were administered to rats, and then the gastric fragments were isolated from the fundus of their stomachs. Prostaglandins protect the gastric mucosa against a variety of injurious agents and may accelerate the recovery of the gastric mucosa following damage. Thrombocytopenia is a major complication in hematopoietic-acute radiation syndrome (H-ARS) that increases the risk of mortality from uncontrolled hemorrhage. There is a great demand for new therapies to improve survival and mitigate bleeding in H-ARS. BACKGROUND: In the preterm newborn, a patent ductus arteriosus is in large part a result of the increased sensitivity of the immature ductus to prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). PGE2 acts through 3 G protein-coupled receptors (EP2, EP3, and EP4) that activate both adenyl cyclase and K(ATP) channels.
