[Decision-making while implantation of biodegradable vascular scaffolds ABSORB based on methods of intravascular visualization].

A series of studies demonstrated comparability of the incidence rate of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) in the middle-term postoperative period following implantation of last-generation drug-coated stents and biodegradable intravascular scaffolds. It was noted observed that these complications may be associated with malposition and inadequate inappropriate preparation of the lesion. We carried out a total of 16 percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) with implantation of absorbable vascular scaffolds (Absorb, Abbott Vascular) under the guidance of optical coherent tomography. Besides, a

Prophylactic absorbable antibiotic beads for prepectoral implant-based breast reconstruction: A single institution early experience.

Infection after implant-based breast reconstruction remains challenging, with infection rates up to 24%. Best clinical practice indicates prophylactic oral antibiotics are ineffective at preventing infection. Absorbable antibiotic beads have been routinely used in other surgical subspecialties such as orthopedic and vascular procedures for continuous local antibiotic delivery to the surgical site when implants are placed. Biodegradable calcium sulfate antibiotic beads have been shown to normalize incidence of infection when used prophylactically for a high-risk prepectoral patient population.

Impact of coronary calcification on outcomes after ABSORB scaffold implantation: insights from the GABI-R registry.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the outcomes after bioresorbable scaffold (BRS) implantation in calcified coronary lesions. In calcified coronary lesions, durable metallic drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation is associated with worse clinical outcomes compared to noncalcified lesions. Although not recommended, BRSs were frequently implanted in calcified lesions in clinical practice. Their outcome is not well investigated. METHODS: Between November 2013 and January 2016, 3326 patients were enrolled in the German-Austrian ABSORB ReglstRy (GABI-R). Lesion calcification severity was classified into no

Post-surgical changes in wideband absorbance in paediatric cochlear implant users after mastoidectomy and posterior tympanotomy.

BACKGROUND: Although Cochlear implantation (CI) is effective in restoring hearing for children with severe-to-profound sensorineural hearing loss, it may influence the middle ear mechanics, potentially causing an air-bone gap and altering middle ear stiffness, which is not detected by traditional 226 Hz tympanometry. AIMS/OBJECTIVES: To investigate the effect of mastoidectomy posterior tympanotomy (MPTA) on wideband absorbance (WBA) in children with CI. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study included 20 normal-hearing children (normal group) and 10 children with CIs who underwent MPTA (CI-MPTA gro

Association between inflammatory biomarkers and neointimal response following elective implantation of the ABSORB bioresorbable vascular scaffold.

INTRODUCTION: The ABSORB bioresorbable vascular scaffold (BVS) is associated with greater neointimal proliferation and thrombotic rate than metal stent. The role of inflammatory biomarkers on neointimal proliferation has not been studied in the setting of BVS implantation. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Thirty patients had arterial blood sampling before elective percutaneous coronary intervention with the ABSORB BVS and at 9-months follow-up. Plasma levels of interleukin-6, soluble CD40 ligand, monocyte chemotactic protein-1 and C-reactive protein were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.

Implantation of an Absorb bioresorbable vascular scaffold in the stenotic aortopulmonary collateral artery of a young child with Alagille syndrome.

Stent implantation in children can be problematic due to the possibility of growth incapacity and difficulties during later surgery. For these reasons, bioresorbable stents may be a good alternative to conventional stents. We report our experience with implantation of an Absorb bioresorbable stent in the stenotic major aortopulmonary collateral artery (MAPCA) of a 1-year-old girl born with pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect.

Morphologic changes of the nasopalatine canal related to dental implantation: a radiologic study in different degrees of absorbed maxillae.

BACKGROUND: Implant rehabilitation of the edentulous anterior maxilla remains a complex restorative challenge. Intricate preexisting anatomy dictates meticulous and accurate osteotomy planning. With progressive bone loss, the alveolar crest may approach anatomic structures. The nasopalatine nerve and vessels may ultimately emerge from the ridge crest. The radiologic changes of the nasopalatine canal were evaluated in different resorption phases of the premaxilla alveolus with regard to dental implantation. METHODS: The study consisted of 207 subjects who had maxillary computed tomography scan

A Complex Evaluation of the In-Vivo Biocompatibility and Degradation of an Extruded ZnMgSr Absorbable Alloy Implanted into Rabbit Bones for 360 Days.

The increasing incidence of trauma in medicine brings with it new demands on the materials used for the surgical treatment of bone fractures. Titanium, its alloys, and steel are used worldwide in the treatment of skeletal injuries. These metallic materials, although inert, are often removed after the injured bone has healed. The second-stage procedure-the removal of the plates and screws-can overwhelm patients and overload healthcare systems. The development of suitable absorbable metallic materials would help us to overcome these issues. In this experimental study, we analyzed an extruded Zn-

Planned use of GP IIb/IIIa inhibitors is safe and effective during implantation of the Absorb Bioresorbable Vascular Scaffold.

Bioresorbable Vascular Scaffolds (BVS) have the potential for adaptive vessel remodeling, restoration of vasomotion, and late luminal enlargement, thus allowing them to circumvent target lesion failures associated with bare metal stents (BMS) and drug-eluting stents (DES). However, recent data has shown a concerning increase in BVS-associated scaffold thrombosis (ScT) compared to DES. Upfront administration of GP IIb/IIIa inhibitors (GPIs) has shown to reduce early stent thrombosis (ST) compared to standard of care in BMS and DES. Since the use of GPIs was limited in BVS studies, the effect of

Design, fabrication, andin vitroevaluation of a 3D printed, bio-absorbable PLA tibia bone implant with a novel lattice structure.

Polymeric bone implants provide distinct benefits over their metallic counterparts because of their degradability, eliminating the need for surgical removal, especially when placed in complex areas, such as the craniofacial region. This technology is particularly beneficial for pediatric craniofacial fracture treatment. An ideal degradable implant degrades at a pace that matches bone development while maintaining structural integrity. Currently, polylactic acid (PLA) and polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) are the primary materials used for these implants, although their degradation takes over

Are Surgeons Going to Be Left Holding the Bag? Incisional Hernia Repair and Intra-Peritoneal Non-Absorbable Mesh Implant Complications.

Ventral incisional hernias are common indications for elective repair and frequently complicated by recurrence. Surgical meshes, which may be synthetic, bio-synthetic, or biological, decrease recurrence and, resultingly, their use has become standard. While most patients are greatly benefited, mesh represents a permanently implanted foreign body. Mesh may be implanted within the intra-peritoneal, preperitoneal, retrorectus, inlay, or onlay anatomic positions. Meshes may be associated with complications that may be early or late and range from minor to severe. Long-term complications with intra
