A prospective, randomised, controlled, multicentre clinical trial examining healing rates, safety and cost to closure of an acellular reticular allogenic human dermis versus standard of care in the treatment of chronic diabetic foot ulcers.

Acellular dermal matrices can successfully heal wounds. This study's goal was to compare clinical outcomes of a novel, open-structure human reticular acellular dermis matrix (HR-ADM) to facilitate wound closure in non-healing diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) versus DFUs treated with standard of care (SOC). Following a 2-week screening period in which DFUs were treated with offloading and moist wound care, patients were randomised to either SOC alone or HR-ADM plus SOC applied weekly for up to 12 weeks. At 6 weeks, the primary outcome time, 65% of the HR-ADM-treated DFUs healed (13/20) compared with

Treatment of an Exposed Achilles Tendon within a Refractory Mixed Arterial Venous Leg Ulcer with the Novel Use of Pericardium Allograft in Combination with Amniotic Allografting, Synthetic Extracellular Matrix, and Acellular Dermis Allografting: A Case Report.

Xenografts, commonly from porcine or bovine sources, have decades-long documented use in reconstructive surgery, including the repair of Achilles tendons. Despite decellularization processes, the risk of antigenicity with xenografts still poses a threat for graft failure. Allograft tissues reduce the risk of immune response and provide greater likelihood of successful grafting. SteriGraft® Pericardium (BSP) (Bone Bank Allografts, San Antonio, Texas) is a lyophilized allograft obtained from the pericardial sac that has undergone sterilization and processing for use in the surgical repair. The utility of Alloderm in hand resurfacing.

Alloderm as a biomechanical scaffold in situations such as skin grafting has been previously demonstrated. In this paper we describe its utility in a broad range of post-traumatic and congenital hand defects. During the recent three years, 11 patients (7 male, 4 female) ranging in age from 8 to 84 years underwent hand resurfacing using acellular dermis graft. There were 10 traumatic and 1 congenital hand deformities (constriction ring syndrome). The acellular dermis was used as both a dermal filler and as a spacer construct. There was no obvious loss of the acellular dermis or infection. Stabl

Tympanic membrane repair with a dermal allograft.

OBJECTIVES: To assess the use of an acellular dermal allograft in the repair of chronic tympanic membrane perforations. Chronic tympanic membrane perforations are a common problem in otolaryngology, and although surgical tympanoplasty using either temporalis fascia or rice paper has proven to be highly successful, these materials are not without their own limitations. The search has continued for a simpler, yet equally effective, means of repairing persistent tympanic membrane perforations in an office setting. In this study we experimentally evaluated the use of an acellular dermis (AlloDerm,

A Novel Approach to Metacarpophalangeal Arthroplasty Using Acellular Dermal Matrix.

Metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint arthritis leads to significant limitation in hand function in many adults. Current options for surgical management include silicone, pyrocarbon and resurfacing arthroplasties, or interposition techniques. While overall many patients have improved pain and some function with current modalities, there are many complications. We describe a novel technique for MCP arthroplasty utilizing a custom acellular dermal allograft implant, which we believe to have properties that can improve implant failure rates. We describe a case for proof of concept of our technique and

Using an acellular dermal matrix as a neuroprotective wrap-around for treating recurrent nerve entrapment syndromes: a proof of concept.

Recurrent nerve entrapment syndrome is a well-known complication in peripheral nerve surgery that often leads to multiple reoperations and increases the risk of unfavorable outcomes due to scarring. In our outpatient clinic, we found two patients with recurrent nerve entrapment syndrome with significant symptoms such as complete sensory loss and chronic pain who were willing to undergo re-exploration of their entrapped nerves and cover them with a human acellular dermal matrix (ADM) as a protective shield against recurrence. Both patients had complete recovery of the nerve entrapment syndrome

Acellular dermal matrices in abdominal wall reconstruction: a systematic review of the current evidence.

BACKGROUND: Reconstruction of the anterior abdominal wall is a complex procedure that can be complicated by contamination, loss of domain, previous scarring or radiotherapy, and reduced availability of local tissues. With the introduction of acellular dermal matrices to clinical use, it was hoped that many of the problems associated with previous synthetic materials could be overcome. With their enhanced biocompatibility, acellular dermal matrices are believed to integrate with surrounding tissues while demonstrating resistance to infection, extrusion, erosion, and adhesion formation. METHODS

A double-layer technique using an acellular dermal matrix for the treatment of Miller Class I and II gingival recession defects: 1-year results of 50 consecutive cases.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of a double-layer technique using an acellular dermal matrix (ADM) in conjunction with a coronally advanced flap (CAF) in treating Miller Class I and II gingival recession defects. A total of 50 patients with isolated Class I and II gingival recession defects were treated. At 52 weeks, the mean recession defect decreased from 3.8 ± 0.9 mm to 0.2 ± 0.5 mm. This represents 94.7% root coverage. Complete root coverage was achieved in 80.0% of the cases. Statistical improvements also were found with probing depths and clinical attachment levels.

Acellular dermal matrix grafts for root coverage procedures: review of products and introduction of a new technique.

Gingival recession remains a significant problem in dental esthetics as well as periodontal health. Adequate zones of keratinized, attached tissue are vital for long-term periodontal health and maintenance. The correction of gingival recession is an important principle in cosmetic dental procedures that requires a harmonious gingival complex. Correction of deficient gingival tissues by either autogenous or allogenic tissue grafts has been well documented in the literature. This article will delineate differences among the various acellular dermal grafts as well as introduce a new technique tha
