The growth parameters of Achromobacter sp. Kg 16 (VKM B-2534 D), such as biomass and maximum specific growth rate, depended only on the source of phosphorus in the medium, but not on the carbon source or the presence of growth factors. With glyphosate as a sole phosphorus source, they were still 40-50 % lower than in media supplemented with orthophosphate or other organophosphonate-methylphosphonic acid. At the first time process of glyphosate acetylation and accumulation of acetylglyphosate in culture medium were revealed in this strain. Acetylglyphosate isolated from cultural liquid was iden

A highly effective acetochlor-degrading bacterial strain (D-12) was isolated from the soil of a pesticide factory. The strain was identified as Achromobacter sp. based on its 16S rRNA gene sequence. The strain D-12 optimally degrades acetochlor at a pH of 7.0 and a temperature of 30°C in a mineral salts medium (MSM). Approximately 95% of acetochlor was degraded by the stain treated at a concentration of 10 mg L(-1) after 5 days of incubation. A chiral high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) system was used to study the enantioselectivity during the process. However, no obvious enantiosel

The colonization and persistence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in chronically diseased lungs are driven by various virulence factors. However, pulmonary infections in cystic fibrosis (CF) patients are predominantly polymicrobial. While Achromobacter xylosoxidans is an opportunistic pathogen in these patients, its impact on P. aeruginosa virulence during co-infection remains largely unknown. This study investigated P. aeruginosa interaction with two clonally related A. xylosoxidans strains, Ax 198 and Ax 200, co-isolated from CF sputum. We found that the interaction was strain-dependent, with Ax 20

Achromobacter xylosoxidans (A. xylosoxidans) is an aerobic gram-negative bacillus and often isolated from aquatic environments. It is supposed to cause infections in patients with malignancy or immunodeficiency. It causes various healthcare-associated infections, but cellulitis is rare. Herein, we report the first case of sever cellulitis by A. xylosoxidans after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). A 49-year-old man underwent allogeneic HSCT from 8/8 HLA-matched unrelated donor with myeloablative conditioning for relapsed acute myeloid leukemia. He developed skin chronic

Achromobacter xylosoxidans is an emerging non-fermenting gram-negative bacillus that is increasingly associated with multidrug-resistant infections, particularly among vulnerable patient populations, such as patients with cystic fibrosis and lung transplant recipients. The intrinsic and acquired resistance mechanisms of A. xylosoxidans, including efflux pumps, β-lactamase production and altered membrane permeability, limit the effectiveness of standard antimicrobial regimens. Notably, cefiderocol, a siderophore cephalosporin with activity against resistant gram-negative pathogens, has been con

BACKGROUND: Achromobacter species are emerging pathogens isolated from respiratory samples of Patients with cystic fibrosis (pwCF) causing growing concerns in the CF community. The epidemiology and the clinical impact of Achromobacter in CF is unclear since data are restricted to small case control studies or selected populations.
AIM: To characterize the effect of Achromobacter respiratory infection on CF lung disease.
METHODS: European CF Society Patient Registry data was analysed for association between Achromobacter infection and demographic/clinical characteristics and outcomes of pwCF.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to characterise OXA-258 variants and other features that may contribute to carbapenem resistance in Achromobacter ruhlandii.
METHODS: Kinetic parameters for purified OXA-258a and OXA-258b were determined measuring the rate of hydrolysis of a representative group of antimicrobial agents. Whole-genome shotgun sequencing was performed on A. ruhlandii 38 (producing OXA-258a) and A. ruhlandii 319 (producing OXA-258b), and in silico analysis of antimicrobial resistance determinants was conducted. Substrates of the AxyABM efflux pump were investigated by inhibit

Background. Achromobacter xylosoxidans and Pseudomonas aeruginosa are two pathogens that cause persistent airway infections in individuals with cystic fibrosis (CF). The persistence of P. aeruginosa is partly due to a high capacity to form biofilms and the ability to exert antagonism against other bacteria. Loss of microbial diversity in conjunction with chronic P. aeruginosa colonization is strongly correlated with low lung function in CF. A. xylosoxidans and P. aeruginosa are frequently co-isolated in CF airway cultures. This study aims to investigate the reciprocal effects on growth inhibit

BACKGROUND: Achromobacter xylosoxidans (AX) is an aerobic Gram-negative opportunistic bacteria known to inhabit various environments and is most commonly associated with nosocomial infections in immune-compromised patients. Although rare, AX can cause a variety of neurological infections, such as meningitis, ventriculitis, and osteomyelitis. Intravascular catheters, intrathecal pumps, and contaminated surgical instruments are potential vectors for such patients.
CASE DESCRIPTION: Here, we present a unique case of multidrug-resistant AX-positive meningitis secondary to infection of a nonfuncti

OBJECTIVE AND DESIGN: Our research aimed to investigate the role of CD14 in pulmonary infection by Achromobacter xylosoxidans in an experimental murine model.
METHODS: C57Bl/6 or CD14-deficient mice were infected intratracheally with non-lethal inoculum of A. xylosoxidans. At times 1, 3 and 7 days after infection, lungs, bronchoalveolar lavage and blood were collected. CD14 gene expression was determined by RT-PCR. The bacterial load in the lungs was assessed by counting colony forming units (CFU). Cytokines, chemokines, lipocalin-2 and sCD14 were quantified by the ELISA method. Inflammatory

This study aimed to investigate the antimicrobial resistance profile to quinolones, the presence of quinolone-resistant determinants and the plasmid replicon typing in environmental Achromobacter sp. isolated from Brazil. Soil and water samples were used for bacterial isolation. The antimicrobial susceptibility testing was performed by minimum inhibitory concentration method. The detection of mutations in the quinolone resistance-determining regions (QRDR) genes, the presence of plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance (PMQR) genes, and plasmid replicons were performed by PCR. A total of 16 isola

Both pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) and coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) are risk factors for chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA) and other pulmonary infectious diseases because of residual lung damage. We report a case of Achromobacter spp. infection following CPA in an immunocompetent woman with a history of PTB and COVID-19. A 63-year-old Cameroonian woman presented in November 2021 with a history of cough with productive muco-purulent sputum, asthenia, headaches, and chest pain for 8 weeks. There was no history of hemoptysis or difficulty in breathing. She was treated for PTB in 2002 an

Achromobacter xylosoxidans is rarely reported as a causative agent of post-cataract surgery endophthalmitis. Here, we present a case where timely surgical intervention preserved the patient's vision. A 68-year-old man presented with clinical signs of endophthalmitis in his right eye three days after uneventful cataract surgery. He was initially treated with intravitreal, topical, and systemic antibiotics. After starting intravitreal, topical, and systemic antibiotics, his condition deteriorated on the second day of treatment. A prompt pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) with the removal of the posteri

A 78-year-old Japanese man, undergoing maintenance hemodialysis for 20 years and having received coronary artery bypass grafting two months before, was hospitalized because of fever with subclinical left-sided pleurisy. Achromobacter xylosoxidans strains exhibiting identical genomic patterns on a macrorestriction analysis were isolated from the blood and the pleural effusion obtained on admission. Physical and radiological examinations did not reveal any lesions in either chest wall or lung adjacent to the effusion, indicating that the organism in the effusion had entered the pleural space via
