The occurrence and incidence of acne scarring is different. Lasting for years, acne can cause both physical and psychological scarring. Scarring frequently results from severe inflammatory nodulocystic acne but may also result from more superficial inflamed lesions or from self-manipulation. Acne keloidalis nuchae is usually treated with oral antibiotics, local antiseptics or intralesional steroids but with limited success. I assessed the efficacy of diode laser for treating the inflammatory and keloidal papules of acne keloidalis nuchae in two cases. The lesions in both the cases showed about 90 to 95% clearance after 4 treatment sessions at one to one and half month intervals. Acne keloidalis is characterized by infected keloid-like nodules in the short-cut nuchal region probably caused by recurving, ingrowing hairshafts. A case with a deep, partial-thickness burn of the hair-bearing part of the face of a man is reported. After healing, the patient started shaving himself thus inducing a severe state of acne keloidalis. It seems advisable in males not to shave during the first eight eight to ten months after a partial-thickness burn of the face in order to avoid this troublesome condition.

Acne vulgaris is a common dermatological diagnosis observed in pediatric patients with skin of color, often resulting in scarring, keloid formation, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, significantly impacting their quality of life. Acne vulgaris is a prevalent and non-discriminatory condition affecting individuals of all races and ethnicities. As people with skin of color make up a rapidly expanding segment of the US population, dermatologic care must evolve accordingly to address their distinct concerns. We recorded the diagnosis made in 461 black patients (187 children and 274 adults) attending a dermatology clinic between January and March 1996.
