1-Methylcyclopropene treatment delays the softening of Actinidia arguta fruit by reducing cell wall degradation and modulating carbohydrate metabolism.

The rapid softening of hardy kiwifruit (Actinidia arguta) fruit significantly reduces its marketing potential. Therefore, the effect of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) on the softening of A. arguta fruit was investigated. Results indicated that A. arguta fruit treated with 1-MCP maintained a higher level of firmness, titratable acidity, ascorbic acid, total phenolics, and flavonoids content, relative to non-treated fruit. Fruit treated with 1-MCP and placed in long-term cold storage had higher sensory scores, as determined by a taste panel and supported by electronic nose and tongue data. Notably

Kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa), compared with cellulose and psyllium, influences the histology and mucus layer of the gastrointestinal tract in the growing pig.

Kiwifruit (KF) fiber, a mixture of soluble and insoluble fibers, elicits mucosal changes in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT). This study aimed to define the nature of these changes in mucosal features throughout the GIT of the growing pig in response to semi-synthetic iso-fiber diets containing cellulose (CEL, low GIT luminal functionality) as the sole fiber source (4.5%), or diets where half of the CEL was replaced by either PSY fiber (PSY husk, high GIT luminal functionality) or KF fiber (consumed as intact fruit). Entire male growing pigs (n = 24, 21 kg bodyweight) received the three diets

Suppression of allergic diarrhea in murine ovalbumin-induced allergic diarrhea model by PG102, a water-soluble extract prepared from Actinidia arguta.

BACKGROUND: Allergic reactions to food can involve diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and abnormal pain. PG102 has previously been shown to control various factors involved in allergy pathogenesis, including IgE and various Th1 and Th2 cytokines, in vivo as well as in vitro [Park EJ, et al.: J Allergy Clin Immunol 2005;116:1151-1157; Park EJ, et al.: J Invest Dermatol 2007;127:1154-1160]. These data indicate that PG102 might have antiallergic effects on allergic diarrhea. Here, we investigated whether PG102 could prevent allergic diarrhea in the murine ovalbumin (OVA)-induced allergic diarrhea model.

Actinidia eriantha polysaccharide prevents gastric cancer invasion and metastasis via inhibition of PD-1/PD-L1 regulation of macrophage polarization.

Actinidia eriantha polysaccharide (AEPS), an active component of the Chinese herbal medicine Radix Actinidia chinensis, has anticancer effects. Here, we investigated the therapeutic potential of AEPS in gastric cancer through in vivo, in vitro, and in silico analyses. In our gastric cancer xenograft mouse model, AEPS effectively reduced tumor volume and weight. In the human gastric adenocarcinoma cell line AGS, AEPS inhibited migration and invasion without affecting proliferation; this result was validated in a fluorescent-labeled lung metastasis mouse model. Mass cytometry revealed that AEPS

The AcLFYL1-AcCSE module enhances kiwifruit resistance to Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae by regulating cell density and lignin biosynthesis.

Canker disease caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae (Psa) is a severe bacterial infection threatening global kiwifruit production. Psa causes lignin degradation, cell wall rupture, leaf wilting, and canker formation on branches and trunks, often leading to plant death. The plant cell wall serves as a structural barrier against pathogens, with its thickness, composition, and cell density influencing disease resistance. Comparative studies between resistant germplasms Actinidia eriantha "Maohuaxiong" (A. eriantha 'MHX') and Actinidia latifolia "Kuoye" (A. latifolia 'KY') and susceptible

Control of Bacterial Canker caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae (Psa) in kiwifruit plants by resinous exudates and extracts of Adesmia balsamica.

BACKGROUND: Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae (Psa) is the pathogen responsible for kiwifruit's bacterial canker, which produces significant economic losses. Effective treatments and measures to control this disease have not yet been found; it is currently controlled with many products containing heavy metals (especially copper) or antibiotics (especially streptomycin), which can cause serious phytotoxicity and antibacterial resistance problems. Therefore, it is essential to develop new strategies to control this disease by obtaining a product of natural origin of sustainable use, which is b

A structural variation in the promoter of the leucoanthocyanidin reductase gene AaLAR1 enhances freezing tolerance by modulating proanthocyanidin accumulation in kiwifruit (Actinidia arguta).

Proanthocyanidins (PAs) are important metabolites that enhance freezing tolerance of plants. Actinidia arguta, especially freezing-tolerant germplasms, accumulate abundant PAs in dormant shoots and thereby enhance freezing tolerance, but the underlying mechanism is unknown. In this study, we used two A. arguta with contrasting cold-resistant phenotypes, KL and RB, to explore the mechanisms in response to cold tolerance. We determined that a leucoanthocyanidin reductase gene (AaLAR1) was more highly expressed in freezing-tolerant KL than in freezing-sensitive RB. Moreover, overexpressing AaLAR1
