Translation and adaptation of the Brief Intervention Adherence Scale for the Tanzanian culture.

Harmful and hazardous alcohol use poses significant health risks globally. Brief interventions (BIs) have shown promise in reducing hazardous alcohol use, but fidelity to the protocol needs to be ensured, especially in low- and middle-income countries like Tanzania. Our study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Tanzanian-Swahili version of the BI adherence scale (BAS) adapted to Tanzanian culture. A psychometric evaluation of the BAS was conducted as part of the "Punguza Pombe Kwa Afya Yako" intervention. Translation and adaptation of the BAS were supervised by a committee of

Clinical Pharmacist Intervention Improves Adherence to Venous Thromboembolism Protocols.

PURPOSE: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a preventable condition associated with an increased risk of morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients. Pharmacological and/or mechanical prophylaxis can prevent thromboembolism events. Guidelines recommend the use of scores for risk assessment in hospitalized patients. These scores are based on a variety of risk factors, including age, reduced mobility, and type of surgery. They help determine the most appropriate prophylaxis method for each patient. However, VTE prophylaxis is still a challenge, and there are limitations associated with it. In

Adherence to a reproductive health intervention for young adults with sickle cell.

BACKGROUND: The CHOICES intervention is tailored specifically for young adults with sickle cell disease (SCD) or sickle cell trait (SCT). The face-to-face (F2F) delivery format is feasible with efficacy for improving knowledge about reproductive health for those with SCD or SCT. PURPOSE: The purpose of the study was to compare the participant adherence to a remote online CHOICES intervention study ( N = 107) and a F2F CHOICES intervention study ( N = 234). METHODOLOGY: In both studies, participants with SCD or SCT were randomized into experimental or usual care control groups. Descriptive st

Online Mindfulness Intervention for Inflammatory Bowel Disease: Adherence and Efficacy.

The impact of stress and other psychological variables on Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) prognosis, treatment response, and functional level is well-established; however, typical IBD treatment focuses on the physiological pathology of the disease and neglects complementary stress-reducing interventions. Recent pilot studies report the benefits of mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) in people living with IBD, but are limited by small sample sizes. Recruitment challenges to in-person studies may be in part due to the difficulty IBD patients often have adhering to fixed schedules and travel

Factors affecting parental adherence to an intervention program for congenital torticollis.

PURPOSE: Identify factors related to parental adherence to an intervention program for congenital torticollis. METHODS: Sixty-five mothers of infants referred to physical therapy served as subjects. Attitudes toward health care styles, satisfaction with and trust in the therapist, expectations and belief in treatment credibility, and maternal perceptions of the severity of the torticollis and the potential effect of treatment on the infant's future function were measured with questionnaires. Adherence was measured by attendance, exercise compliance, and reason for treatment termination. RESU

Patient decision making: strategies for diabetes diet adherence intervention.

BACKGROUND: Patient self-care is critical in controlling diabetes and its complications. Lack of diet adherence is a particular challenge to effective diabetes intervention. The Transtheoretical Model (TTM) of Change, decision-making theory, and self-efficacy have contributed to successful tailoring of interventions in many target behaviors. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to develop a diagnostic tool, including TTM measures for the stages of change, decisional balance, and self-efficacy, that pharmacists involved in diabetes intervention can use for patients resistant to a diet regi

Effectiveness of Interventions to Increase Medication Adherence in Pediatric Renal Transplant Patients: Systematic Review.

OBJECTIVES: The most effective treatment for end-stage renal failure is renal transplant. Nonadherence to medication is one of the most important factors in organ rejection and an important problem in pediatric renal transplant and an important cause of graft failure. Adherence is the most important modifiable factor that affects treatment outcomes. Factors such as low education level and socioeconomic level, complexity of the treatment, lack of belief in the effectiveness of the treatment, cost, insufficient education, drug toxicity, and adverse effects negatively affect adherence to treatmen

Theory-Based Interventions to Promote Fluid Intake Adherence Among Dialysis Patients: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Dialysis involves a complex regimen including diet, fluid, medication, and treatment. Therapeutic regimen adherence determines the therapeutic success, quality of life, and survival of patients on dialysis. Complying with fluid management is the most difficult among the therapeutic regimen. Several theory-based interventions have been designed to promote fluid intake compliance in patients receiving dialysis. This review has two aims. One is to explore the effectiveness of theory-based interventions. The other is to examine the extent of the combination of theory and in

Medication adherence and telehealth interventions after liver transplantation: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Medication adherence is critical to long-term graft and patient survival after liver transplantation (LT), yet the effectiveness of adherence-promoting interventions across the post-transplant survivorship continuum remains uncertain. We systematically reviewed interventions to improve medication adherence, including immunosuppressive regimen simplification, pharmacist-led or counseling strategies, behavioral and multicomponent programs, and technology-based interventions. We identified 33 studies: immunosuppressive regimen simplification (n=8), pharmacist-led or counseling strategies (n=6), b

Lored interventions should address stigma-related barriers to improve adherence in younger RA patients.

This study explored the impact of stigma on medication adherence among rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients across different age groups. Researchers assessed 250 RA patients aged over 18 using the Stigma Scale for Chronic Illness (SSCI) and the 8-item Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8). Stratified linear regression analysis revealed significant differences in stigma levels across age groups (P<0.05), while no significant differences were found in medication adherence. Stigma significantly influenced adherence in the 18   ~   44 and 45   ~   59 age groups (P<0.05). These findings suggest that ta

Exploring technology-based interventions to improve oral contraceptive pill adherence: a cross-sectional survey.

PURPOSE: To assess the resources that oral contraceptive pill (OCP) users currently use and wish to use after missing pills. MATERIALS AND METHODS: People 18-44 years old with a OCP prescription were emailed a cross-sectional survey to assess how they obtain information about managing missed pills, what information they would prefer to access, and whether they would use additional information if it were available. We performed a logistic regression and a dominance analysis to compare independent predictors of desire for a technological resource at the time of missed pills. RESULTS: We receiv

Identification of target groups and individuals for adherence interventions using tree-based prediction models.

Background: In chronically ill patients, medication adherence during implementation can be crucial for treatment success and can decrease health costs. In some populations, regression models do not show this relationship. We aim to estimate subgroup-specific and personalized effects to identify target groups for interventions. Methods: We defined three cohorts of patients with type 1 diabetes (n = 12,713), type 2 diabetes (n = 85,162) and hyperlipidemia (n = 117,485) from German claims data between 2012 and 2015.
