Human papillomavirus (HPV)-related multiphenotypic sinonasal carcinoma is a distinct, recently described neoplasm of salivary gland nature that has an unusual microscopic appearance exhibiting multidirectional differentiation. Originally described by Bishop et al. in 2012, this distinct form of head and neck cancer is a very rare entity that few pathologists have encountered in practice, and only 50 cases have been reported in the literature. It usually presents as a large, destructive mass confined to the nasal cavity or paranasal sinuses, and is always associated with high-risk HPV infection

This study was performed to determine the associations between human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and cytological changes in the male glans and urethral samples. Two rubbed samples of the glans and distal urethra were collected from 160 patients with urethritis, and the collected cells were placed into preservative solution for liquid-based cytology. DNA was extracted from all samples, and β-globin gene amplification, HPV-DNA test, and HPV genotyping were performed. After papanicolaou staining of each sample, cytological findings were assessed based on nine non-classic signs, and compared wi

Human papillomavirus (HPV) clearance is important in eliminating cervical cancer which contributes to high morbidity and mortality in women. Nevertheless, it remains largely unknown about key players in clearing pre-existing HPV infections. HPV antigens can be detected by the most important cervical antigen-presenting cells (Langerhans cells, LCs), of which the activities can be affected by cervicovaginal microbiota. In this review, we first introduce persistent HPV infections and then describe HPV-suppressed LCs activities, including but not limited to antigen uptake and presentation. Given s

PURPOSE: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is now the primary cause of oropharyngeal head and neck cancer (OPC) worldwide; yet limited research has examined the effect of HPV-positive status (OPC+) on nutrition outcomes. This study aims to determine the impact of HPV status on nutritional outcomes for adult patients with OPC undergoing any treatment modality.
METHODS: A systematic literature review was conducted up to and including July 2021 of PubMed, Embase, CENTRAL, CINAHL, and Web of Science to identify studies conducted in adults (>18 years) with known OPC reporting on any outcome(s) related to

BACKGROUND: The aim was to estimate the risk of subsequent extra-cervical Human Papillomavirus (HPV) related cancer in patients surgically treated for high grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN 2-3). This is the first study in Italy investigating the occurrence of extra-cervical tumors in this cohort of patients.
METHODS: 3184 patients surgically treated for CIN2-3 since 1992 at the Department of Surgical Sciences of University of Torino were considered. The risk of HPV-related cancer was calculated as Standardized Incidence Ratio (SIR), using as expected values tumour age specific in

Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is a necessary, although not sufficient cause of cervical cancer. Globally, HPV infection accounts for an estimated 530,000 cervical cancer cases (~270,000 deaths) annually, with the majority (86% of cases, 88% of deaths) occurring in developing countries. Approximately 90% of anal cancers and a smaller subset (<50%) of other cancers (oropharyngeal, penile, vaginal, vulvar) are also attributed to HPV. In total, HPV accounts for 5.2% of the worldwide cancer burden. HPVs 16 and 18 are responsible for 70% of cervical cancer cases and, especially HPV 16, for a

BACKGROUND: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection worldwide, affecting about 80% of women up to the age of 50. The persistent infection of high risk-HPV types (HR-HPV) is the leading cause of cervical cancer, the fourth most common cancer of women. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the frequency and typing of HPV in the genital lesions in the Iranian population.
METHODS: This descriptive-analytic study was conducted on a population in the South-Khorasan province of Iran. All of the participants were sexually active and were checked for evident cervical war

BACKGROUND: The data with regards to the regional variants of distinct HPV types is of great value. Accordance with this, this study aimed to investigate the sequence variations of E6 gene and long control region of HPV 39 among normal, premalignant and malignant cervical samples in order to characterize the frequent HPV 39 variants circulating in Tehran, Iran.
METHODS: In total, 70 cervical samples (45 normal, 16 premalignant, and 9 malignant samples) infected with HPV 39 were analyzed by nested-PCR and sequencing.
RESULTS: Our results revealed that all samples belonged to A lineage. Almost

Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most prevalent sexually transmitted infection (STI) in the United States. Although a vaccine to prevent HPV infection exists, only 53.7% of females 13-17 years of age were up-to-date on the HPV vaccination series in 2018. There is a catch-up period of vaccination for females 18-26 years of age that shows consistent underparticipation. A potential barrier to vaccination is relationship status, as long-term relationships may negatively impact HPV risk perception. This study examined monogamy as a risk factor for nonvaccination and explored how risk p

BACKGROUND: Human papillomavirus is the most common cause of sexually transmitted diseases. Various studies report that positive human papillomavirus diagnosis results in psychosexual issues for the infected and reduces their quality of life. However, the adaptation of the infected has not been addressed yet. The present study aims to identify the process by which individuals infected with human papillomavirus adapt to their disease.
METHOD: This is a qualitative work of research with a grounded theory design. The setting of the study was the skin clinic of Shahid Faghihi Hospital in Shiraz.

Owing to the presence of known tumor-specific viral antigens, human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated cancers are well suited for treatment with immunotherapy designed to unleash, amplify or replace the T cell arm of the adaptive immune system. Immune checkpoint blockade designed to unleash existing T cell immunity is currently Food and Drug Administration approved for certain HPV-associated cancers. More specific immunotherapies such as therapeutic vaccines and T cell receptor-engineered cellular therapy are currently in clinical development. Such therapies may offer more specific immune activa

High risk human papillomavirus (HPV) has transformed head and neck oncology in the past several decades. Now that we have recognized that HPV-positive oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) is a unique cancer type with distinct clinicopathologic features and favorable prognosis, it has become essential to test patients in routine practice. We have progressed greatly in our knowledge of this disease and gone, over the past two to three decades, from doing testing in highly variable amounts and methods to, now, with the help of national and international guidelines and patient staging req

Adult-onset Still disease (AOSD) is a systemic autoimmune disease (AIID) that can develop after exposure to infectious agents. Genital human papillomavirus (HPV) infection has been reported to induce or exacerbate AIIDs, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). No guidelines are available for the management of genital warts in AOSD. Case report and literature review. We report a patient who was diagnosed AOSD in the setting of refractory and recurrent genital HPV infection, demonstrating a possible link between HPV infection and AOSD. In addition, we also discuss the management of genital w

Data from US population-based cancer registries have shown increasing incidence rates for cancer of the base of the tongue, interpreted as related to the epidemic of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, but rates could be underestimated due to miscoding of some base of tongue cancers to tongue "not otherwise specified" (NOS). Tongue NOS was the most commonly coded subsite among incident (2000-2011) invasive cancers of the oral tongue (tongue excluding base of tongue and lingual tonsil which together comprise the posterior one-third of the tongue) in the 18 Surveillance, Epidemiology and End R

BACKGROUND: In recent years, efforts have been made to identify molecular markers as potential screening tools in the early detection of cervical cancer precursors.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: One-hundred-eighty-two women admitted to the Colposcopy Unit of Tor Vergata University Hospital were enrolled in this study. The inclusion criteria were: i) Pap test with atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASCUS) or low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL); ii) normal cytology but human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA test positive for at least one of the most frequently detected five high

A cornu cutaneum (cutaneous horn) is a clinical descriptive term referring to a skin tumor having the appearance of an animal horn. Histopathologically, the lesion may be associated with several different tumors. Along with some benign entities such as warts or seborrheic keratoses, a cutaneous horn may be also associated with actinic keratoses, Bowen disease and squamous cell carcinoma. When an underlying malignancy is present, the entire tumor must be removed with careful control of margins. We report a case of a 68-year-old man with a cornu cutaneum-like HPV 45 positive sub-ungual squamous
