Publication Trends of Pediatric and Adult Randomized Controlled Trials in General Medical Journals, 2005-2018: A Citation Analysis.

Policy has been developed to promote the conduct of high-quality pediatric randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Whether these strategies have influenced publication trends in high-impact journals is unknown. We aim to evaluate characteristics, citation patterns, and publication trends of pediatric RCTs published in general medical journals (GMJs) compared with adult RCTs over a 13-year period. Studies were identified using Medline, and impact metrics were collected from Web of Science and Scopus. All RCTs published from 2005-2018 in 7 GMJs with the highest impact factors were identified for an

Use of evidence from the UK Obstetric Surveillance System in policy and clinical practice: a descriptive study using citation tracking.

BACKGROUND: The UK Obstetric Surveillance System (UKOSS) was established in 2005 for research into uncommon disorders of pregnancy. This study explored the use in policy and clinical guidelines of evidence generated through UKOSS during its 20-year history, in order to inform approaches to increase the impact of future studies conducted through the platform. METHODS: We searched Overton (24 September 2025) and Altmetric (6 October 2025) using the DOIs of articles reporting research conducted using UKOSS to identify citations in clinical guidelines and policy documents. We summarised citation

Anaesthesia support for transcatheter heart valve interventions: a narrative review.

INTRODUCTION: There have been few other areas of medical practice in the last two decades that have evolved at the same pace as transcatheter heart valve interventions. As well as providing peri-operative care, anaesthetists are core members of 'Heart Teams', who plan the care of and manage patients with valvular heart disease. This review aims to summarise core information on these procedures for anaesthetists. METHODS: We conducted a literature review to identify highly cited or high Altmetric scoring articles published in the last five years on the peri-operative management of patients und

Auditing the Representation of Female Athletes in Sports Medicine Research: Fifth-Metatarsal Fractures.

BACKGROUND: Female representation within athletics has increased as a result of Title IX, rising popularity, demand for equal compensation, and greater participation in multiple sports. Despite this, gender disparities in sports medicine research are apparent. This project serves to review the literature available on fifth-metatarsal fractures and assess the representation of female athletes in current literature. METHODS: We used a standardized protocol to audit the representation of female athletes in sports science and sports medicine research for fifth-metatarsal fractures. Primary factor

Differences in disciplinary concentration and linguistic complexity between scientific posts on Bluesky and X.

Several social media platforms provide a route for communication about scientific topics. X, formerly known as Twitter, has been shown to offer researchers an opportunity to exchange scientific information with audiences extending well beyond the research community. In recent years another platform, Bluesky, has emerged and appears to encourage scientific discourse, and a wave of migration of researchers from X to Bluesky has been documented in survey data, poll responses and altmetric records. Whether scientific claims are described differently on the two platforms has not been fully studied.

High impact works on stem cell transplantation in intervertebral disc degeneration.

BACKGROUND: Low back pain is a major disorder that causes disability and is strongly associated with intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD). Because of the limitations of contemporary interventions, stem cell transplantation (SCT) has been increasingly used to regenerate degenerative discs. Nevertheless, analyses of high-impact papers in this field are rare. This study aimed to determine and analyze the 100 highest-cited documents on SCT in IDD. METHODS: The 100 highest-cited documents were retrieved from the Web of Science (WoS) database. Descriptive statistics were calculated and correlatio

Clinical Evidence Linkage From the American Society of Clinical Oncology 2024 Conference Poster Images Using Generative AI: Exploratory Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Early-stage clinical findings often appear only as conference posters circulated on social media. Because posters rarely carry structured metadata, their citations are invisible to bibliometric and alternative metric tools, limiting real-time research discovery. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to determine whether a large language model can accurately extract citation data from clinical conference poster images shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) and link those data to the Dimensions and Altmetric databases. METHODS: Poster images associated with the 2024 American Society of Clin

How policy problems and solutions travel in the scientific literature: An international scientometric analysis of the French Model of opioid use disorder care.

RATIONALE: The 2007 article 'Why buprenorphine is so successful in treating opiate addiction in France' has been widely cited to promote various solutions to growing opioid-related harms across multiple jurisdictions globally. However, selective promotion of aspects of the French experience or promotion of the French experience without considering relevant contextual factors may inform policies that will not bring the same outcomes as in France, including the introduction of possible unintended negative consequences. The scientific literature is one important arena in which policy solutions ar
