'In silico labelling': Exploring the biological landscape at the nanoscale using intelligent multimodal optical microscopy.

Multimodal optical microscopy has recently converged with artificial intelligence (AI) to enable in silico labelling-the computational prediction of fluorescence-like molecular contrast from label-free measurements. Fluorescence plays a crucial role in linking microscopy and spectroscopy at molecular level, enabling image formation by means of linear and non-linear investigation modalities. Over the past two decades, fluorescence optical microscopy has progressed into optical nanoscopy and single molecule localisation methods that operate at the nano- and even Ångstrom level under ambient cond

Use of ambient AI scribe in physicians' clinical documentation: a protocol for a systematic review on effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction.

INTRODUCTION: Clinical documentation is a significant driver of burnout among physicians. Ambient artificial intelligence (AI) scribes, which leverage generative large language models to automate the creation of clinical notes from patient-physician conversations, are rapidly emerging as a potential solution. While these tools promise to enhance efficiency and reduce administrative tasks, concerns about the quality, accuracy and potential biases persist. There is now a need for a systematic synthesis of evidence to evaluate the impact of these technologies in clinical practice. To assess the e

A Review of Artificial Intelligence-Based Gait Evaluation and Rehabilitation in Parkinson's Disease.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a long-term degenerative disease of the central nervous system that affects both motor and non-motor functions. In most cases, symptoms develop gradually, with non-motor symptoms increasing in frequency as the condition progresses. Tremors, stiffness, slow movements, and difficulty walking are some of the early symptoms. There may be problems with cognition, behavior, sleep, and thinking. Dementia caused by PD becomes more common as the disease progresses. The development of PD is linked to certain sequences of motion that eventually contribute to diminished functio

Prediction of novel boron-carbon based clathrates.

Clathrates are inclusion compounds featured with host framework cages and trapped guest atoms or small molecules. Recently, the first boron-carbon (B-C) clathrate SrB3C3 was successfully synthesized at high pressures near 50 GPa. Upon the substitution of guest atoms, clathrates exhibit tunable applications. For example, LaB3C3 possesses an indirect band gap of near 1.3 eV, whereas the ScB3C3 clathrate is ferroelectric with an above-room-temperature Curie temperature of ∼370 K. To the best of our knowledge, however, there is no report on the investigation of B-C framework clathrates with non-eq

From Raw Signals to Understood States: A Perspective on Neuro-Symbolic and LLM-Driven Intelligent Sensing of Human Affective and Cognitive States.

Intelligent sensor technologies now provide unprecedented multimodal access to human affective and cognitive processes, spanning physiological, ocular, facial, kinematic, ambient, and behavioral streams. Yet, despite dramatic advances in acquisition and deep representation learning, the pipeline from raw signals to psychologically meaningful, actionable understanding remains fragile. Deep-only architectures excel at pattern extraction but struggle with contextual reasoning, uncertainty communication, and human-facing explanation; symbolic-only frameworks resist noisy, high-dimensional streams.

Thermochromic Structural Color Metafabric Enabling Adaptive Thermal Management and Chromatic Display.

Environmentally adaptive thermoregulation with visually appealing coloration is a critical requirement for smart textiles. Black/white color switching has been proposed to manipulate solar energy for fulfilling outdoor heating/cooling demands, but it optically conflicts with conventional coloration methods depending on chemical dyes to selectively absorb visible wavelengths. Here, we create a thermochromic structural color metafabric (TSCM) that undercores dynamic light manipulation across the visible, solar, and mid-infrared bands, achieving unmet textile intelligence of temperature self-regu

Enhanced PM filtration and self-adaptive oxygen supply by intelligent powered respirators under extreme conditions with high dust and low oxygen.

Mine workers in high-altitude regions confront the combined physiological threats of severe respirable dust and reduced oxygen partial pressure. Conventional powered air-purifying respirators (PAPRs) are often plagued by premature filter clogging, excessive airflow resistance, compromised facial sealing, and insufficient oxygen delivery. An intelligent PAPR system was disclosed in this work, which synergistically integrates prolonged dust filtration with adaptive oxygen enrichment. The key technical route involved in-situ metal-organic framework (MOF) functionalization of high-efficiency parti

AI scribe functions in psychiatric practice: clinical oversight, consent, and regulation.

Ambient artificial intelligence (AI) documentation tools, known as AI scribes, have entered psychiatric clinical practice, bundling at least three operations into a single workflow, without sufficient attention to the differences among them. In this Personal View, we argue that AI-generated clinical narrative (history of present illness), AI-generated clinical observation (mental status examination), and AI-generated diagnostic reasoning (assessment and plan) are functionally distinct operations that stand in qualitatively different relationships to their shared input, with distinct failure mo

Moving artificial intelligence from research to real-world clinical use in neurology.

Artificial intelligence (AI) applications in neurology have reached an inflection point. Despite US Food and Drug Administration approval of numerous algorithms in neuroimaging, neurophysiology, genetics and chatbots, their real-world impact remains limited. This disconnect between research promise and clinical reality represents a gap in understanding how to translate AI algorithms into clinical benefit for patients globally. In this Perspective, we examine the challenges that prevent clinical AI use in neurology moving beyond pilot studies towards meaningful clinical impact. We consider the

Food safety involving ingestion of foods and beverages prepared with phthalate-plasticizer-containing clouding agents.

In May 2011, the illegal use of the phthalate plasticizer di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate in clouding agents for use in foods and beverages was reported in Taiwan. This food scandal has caused shock and panic among the majority of Taiwanese people and has attracted international attention. Phthalate exposure is assessed by ambient monitoring or human biomonitoring. Ambient monitoring relies on measuring chemicals in environmental media, foodstuff and consumer products. Human biomonitoring determines body burden by measuring the chemicals, their metabolites or specific reaction products in human spe
