PET/CT and MR Features of Infiltrating Spinal Angiolipoma.

Spinal angiolipomas are benign tumors predominantly found in the epidural space. Infiltrating spinal angiolipoma is an extremely rare type, which tends to invade the surrounding tissue and may mimic an aggressive tumor. Herein, we reported the case of a 64-year-old woman with a thoracic angiolipoma involving the T9 vertebral body and its appendix. The lesion showed long T1 and T2 signal intensity on MRI and slightly increased FDG uptake on PET/CT. After surgery, the pathologic examination demonstrated features consistent with angiolipoma, and the patient was free of symptoms.

Spinal angiolipoma: etiology, imaging findings, classification, treatment, and prognosis.

PURPOSE: To summarise our experience treating patients with spinal angiolipomas (SAs) and to evaluate factors relating to its prognosis. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the records of patients diagnosed with SAs who received surgical treatment from January 2001 to February 2013. RESULTS: Twenty-one patients were described. We divide SAs into two types: "intraspinal" and "dumbbell-shaped". The former were further subclassified as "with lipomatosis" and "without lipomatosis". Overweight people are more likely to get the "with lipomatosis" type which needs different surgical strategy and/o

Intraosseous Angiolipoma of the Mandible: A Rare Case Report.

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: We report the case of an extremely rare intraosseous adipocytic tumor of the mandible. Angiolipoma is a unique variant of lipoma composed of mature fat cells with proliferating capillaries. CASE REPORT: An asymptomatic 63-year-old patient attended a dental check-up, and a bordered radiolucency was incidentally found on the lower left side of the mandibular body. Conservative enucleation was performed with significant intraoperative bleeding. The preliminary diagnosis was central giant cell granuloma (CGCG). Histological analysis revealed that the lesion consisted of lo

Multiple Angiolipomas of the Spermatic Cord: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: We report a rare case of multiple spermatic cord angiolipomas. CASE PRESENTATION: An 85-year-old man with a history of laparoscopic right nephrectomy for renal cell carcinoma was referred for evaluation of a palpable right scrotal mass. Ultrasonography showed a single solid mass. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a solid nodule in contact with the right spermatic cord and a fatty mass below the nodule. Right inguinal orchiectomy was performed. Histopathological examination of the surgical specimen was consistent with angiolipoma. He was discharged 4 day

Combined myxoid liposarcoma and angiolipoma of the spermatic cord.

To date, only 14 cases of myxoid liposarcoma of the spermatic cord have been reported in the literature. The growth is a rare, usually highly differentiated malignancy that tends to recur locally, rarely metastasizes, and has a good prognosis following complete removal. We describe a new case of a highly differentiated myxoid liposarcoma of the spermatic cord, combined with an angiolipoma. Left inguinal orchiectomy with high ligation of the cord was performed. Staging revealed no evidence of regional or distal metastases. By the latest visit, at 30 months, the tumor had not recurred. The diagn

Epidural angiolipoma: A rare cause of spinal cord compression.

INTRODUCTION: Angiolipomas are benign, slow growing lesions, almost always located subcutaneously in the trunc or limbs. They are composed of mature lipocytes admixed with abnormal blood vessels. Spinal epidural angiolipoma are rare accounting for approximately 0.14-1.2% of all spinal axis tumors and 2-3% of epidural spinal tumors. PRESENTATION OF CASE: We report the case of a 65 years-old-woman, presenting with complete paraplegia installed since 7 months. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed an epidural dorsal fatty mass. The patient recovered immediately after surgery. The pathological

Bronchoscopic resection of bronchial angiolipoma: A rare case report.

Angiolipoma is a rare benign tumor that most commonly occurs in the extremities and trunk. Angiolipomas originating in the bronchial tree are extremely rare. To the best of our knowledge, only one such case, confined to the bronchus intermedius, has been reported to date. The present study describes the case of an asymptomatic 74-year-old man with a yellowish round mass incidentally discovered at the orifice of the right lower bronchus during a routine health check. The tumor originated from the membranous part of the right inferior bronchus. Using a high-frequency electric snare and argon pla

Rare case of adult jejunojejunal intussusception secondary to angiolipoma.

A woman in her mid-50s presented with a 3-month history of upper abdominal pain. Initial examination using ultrasound was unremarkable and the patient was sent home. The patient returned 8 days later and CT imaging revealed intussusception as the cause of her symptoms. The involved bowel was surgically reduced and transected with the lead point found to contain a 3 cm mass. Histological examination revealed the mass to be an angiolipoma. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of adult jejunojejunal intussusception secondary to angiolipoma.

A case of thoracic epidural angiolipoma: CT and MRI findings.

Spinal angiolipomas are rare benign tumors composed of mature adipose cells and blood vessel walls. We report the case of a patient with a spinal epidural angiolipoma who presented with paraplegia and was treated by urgent tumor resection and decompression. The patient was a 79-year-old man who presented to our hospital with a 6-month history of numbness in both lower limbs. Plain CT showed a tumor-like lesion with a predominantly fatty component on the dorsal epidural surface at the Th2-4 level, and contrast-enhanced CT showed a relatively strongly heterogeneously enhancing lesion. Gadolinium

Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection of the Angiolipoma at Hypopharynx-Esophageal Introitus.

Angiolipoma in the region of the hypopharynx-esophageal introitus is a rare occurrence. Surgical treatment was performed in the few cases reported in the literature. Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is a minimally invasive treatment for hypopharyngeal and esophageal lesions. Our objective was to evaluate the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of ESD for treatment of angiolipoma at the hypopharynx-esophageal introitus. The patients with submucosal tumors at the hypopharynx-esophageal introitus were diagnosed as angiolipoma by preoperative evaluation with endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasonograp

Spinal angiolipomas: A puzzling case and review of a rare entity.

Patients with spinal epidural abscesses (SEAs) may have a variable presentation. Such an infection has a typical appearance on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and enhances with gadolinium. We present a case that was a diagnostic challenge where pre- and intra-operative findings resulted in conflicting impressions. The mimicker was a spinal angiolipoma (SAL). The authors then provide a thorough review of this rare spinal neoplasm. A 55-year-old man presented with back pain, paresis, paresthesia, and urinary retention. MRI was indicative of a longitudinal epidural thoracic mass with a signal ho

Colon angiolipoma with intussusception: a case report and literature review.

Angiolipomas are frequently observed benign tumors. They have a typical vascular component and are often located in subcutaneous tissues, and more rarely, in the gastrointestinal tract. We present the case of a 58-year-old man who complained of abdominal discomfort in the left lower quadrant and two to three bloody stools a day without any obvious etiology. These symptom became more severe in the next three days, due to a large angiolipoma located in the descending colon, which was diagnosed intraoperatively. In a literature review, we found only 22 cases of angiolipomas involving the gastroin

Sellar angiolipomas: two case reports and a review of the literature.

Angiolipomas are mesenchymal hamartomas composed of abnormal blood vessels and mature adipose tissue, most commonly found in the subcutaneous tissue of the extremities. Intracranial location is extremely rare, and only five cases have been described in the sellar region. We report on two patients that were initially diagnosed with pituitary adenomas that were postoperatively verified as angiolipomas. Sellar angiolipomas should be considered in the differential diagnosis of pituitary lesions due to the potential catastrophic bleeding during surgery. Preoperative diagnosis is very difficult; how

Extradural spinal angiolipoma associated with bone lysis in a dog.

An extradural spinal tumor was diagnosed in a 12-year-old Labrador retriever that was presented with a one-week history of paraparesis. Myelography indicated a deviation of the spinal cord to the right side at the level of the second lumbar (L2) vertebra. The difference in length measuring the left and right sides of the L2 vertebra suggested a fracture of the vertebral body. Severe bone remodeling and an extradural mass were seen on computed tomography (CT). Clinical, radiographical, and histological findings are described and considered homologous to extradural angiolipomas described in the
