Regenerative endodontic procedures (REPs) have emerged as a biologically driven approach for managing immature teeth with necrotic pulp and open apices, providing an alternative to traditional apexification techniques. This case report describes the successful treatment of a three-rooted immature mandibular first molar with necrotic pulp and chronic apical periodontitis in a 9-year-old patient using REPs. The treatment followed the guidelines set by the American Association of Endodontists and utilized a two-visit protocol. Concentrated growth factor (CGF) was employed as a biological scaffold

Traditionally, apexification has been used to treat immature permanent teeth that have lost pulp vitality. This technique promotes the formation of an apical barrier to close the open apex so that the filling materials can be confined to the root canal. Because tissue regeneration cannot be achieved with apexification, a new technique called regenerative endodontic treatment was presented recently to treat immature permanent teeth. Regenerative endodontic treatment is a treatment procedure designed to replace damaged pulp tissue with viable tissue which restores the normal function of the pulp

AIM: To report the endodontic treatment of an immature maxillary central incisor with dens invaginatus.
SUMMARY: Dens invaginatus is a rare malformation of teeth, probably resulting from an infolding of the dental papilla during tooth development. The present case describes the complex endodontic treatment of a type III dens invaginatus in an immature maxillary central incisor with a necrotic pulp and abscess formation. The initial treatment goal was to achieve apexification of the pseudocanal root and conservative root canal treatment in the main canal. Following 1-year of treatment with cal

INTRODUCTION: Incomplete root formation following pulp necrosis requires mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) apexification. Although effective, this treatment does not increase the root thickness, necessitating additional reinforcement. This study aimed to evaluate the fracture resistance of simulated immature mandibular premolars apexified with MTA and reinforced with various materials using Weibull analysis.
METHODS: Ninety human mandibular first premolars were prepared to simulate immature teeth. After MTA apexification, teeth were divided into six groups: negative control (intact teeth), pos

This article describes the diagnosis and treatment of a case of extensive apical external root resorption in the presence of a large periradicular lesion. The diagnosis was made in retrospect because the result of the resorption mimicked an immature root. The treatment consisted of the use of calcium hydroxide to induce apexification. Healing was obtained after 24 months.

INTRODUCTION: Trauma is one of the primary causes of tooth loss and pulpal injury in adolescents and children. Prior to regenerative endodontics, treatment of necrotic, immature teeth with open apices was limited to long-term calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2 ) apexification and subsequent root canal therapy or extraction. Through revascularization, retention of these teeth can be achieved and the elimination of patient symptoms and the radiographic appearance of continued root development were obtained.
CASE REVIEW: This report illustrates a revascularization protocol through a case where platelet-

The management of a tooth with incomplete root maturation and a necrotic pulp is an endodontic and a restorative challenge. Apexification procedures alone leave the tooth in a weakened state and at risk for reinfection. Regenerative endodontic procedures potentially offer advantages, including the possibility of hard tissue deposition and continued root development. Case studies have reported regeneration of human pulplike tissues in vivo, but there is no protocol that reliably regenerates pulplike tissue. This article summarizes historical, current, and future regenerative treatment approache

Nonsurgical treatment of 3 maxillary lateral incisors with dens invaginatus is reported. Invaginated teeth present technical difficulties with respect to their management because of complicated canal morphology. In the first case reported, apical abscess with incomplete root formation was found at the time of examination. Calcium hydroxide apexification provided favorable conditions for root closure and obturation. The other 2 cases were treated by conventional root canal treatment. Follow-up examinations showed successful clinical results, with osseous healing evident radiographically.

Intrusive luxation is an injury involving the axial displacement of a tooth into the alveolar socket. This paper describes apexification using calcium hydroxide medicaments of an immature permanent central incisor in which spontaneous re-eruption as well as severe inflammatory external root resorption was observed following traumatic intrusion. A 10-year-old boy was referred to the Department of Pediatric Dentistry 3 days after having fallen at school. Intraoral examination revealed intrusive luxation and an enamel-dentin crown fracture of the maxillary left central incisor (Tooth 21). The too

INTRODUCTION: The most common cause of failure of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA)-apexified teeth is root fracture. This study aimed to identify the appropriate reinforcement materials following MTA apexification in immature teeth under simulated oral conditions.
METHODS: Part 1: To investigate the effect of dentine thickness: twenty-four teeth (n = 8) were assigned to 3 groups; intact, simulated immature teeth with 2.0 mm, and 1.5 mm dentin thicknesses. Roots were prepared using Peeso reamers until the predetermined thickness was achieved. Part 2: To evaluate the effect of reinforcement mat

Intrusion of immature permanent anterior teeth presents a great dilemma due to variety of treatment options. The ideal treatment option is the one with least probability of developing complications like external root resorption, obliteration of pulp canal, marginal bone loss etc. This paper presents a case report with treatment strategy of repositioning, splinting, successfully attempted apexification and obturation of a completely intruded immature permanent central incisor. Excellent healing with no post-operative complications even after 10 months of follow up.

Dens evaginatus is a developmental anomaly that produces a tubercle on the occlusal surface of a tooth. It is found most frequently in the mandibular premolars. The occlusal tubercle easily causes occlusal interferences. Attrition or fracture of the tubercle can lead to pulpitis, pulp necrosis, periapical pathosis, and periapical infection. This case report illustrates the treatment of facial cellulitis arising from dens evaginatus with open apex. Calcium hydroxide was used for the apexification procedure. One year after canal obturation, radiography revealed no apical pathosis and the apical

An experimental material, mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA), has recently been investigated as a potential alternative restorative material to the presently used materials in endodontics. Several in vitro and in vivo studies have shown that MTA prevents microleakage, is biocompatible, and promotes regeneration of the original tissues when it is placed in contact with the dental pulp or periradicular tissues. This article describes the clinical procedures for application of MTA in capping of pulps with reversible pulpitis, apexification, repair of root perforations nonsurgically and surgically,

A necrotic immature mandibular second premolar with periapical involvement in a 13-year-old patient was treated. Instead of the standard root canal treatment protocol and apexification, antimicrobial agents were used in the canal, after which the canal was left empty. Radiographic examination showed the start of apical closure 5 months after the completion of the antimicrobial protocol. Thickening of the canal wall and complete apical closure was confirmed 30 months after the treatment, indicating the revascularization potential of a young permanent tooth pulp into a bacteria-free root canal s

AIM: This study describes the management of a replanted and endodontically treated avulsed permanent maxillary incisor tooth with 11 hours of extraoral time.
BACKGROUND: Avulsion is one of the most common and severe dental injuries occurring in young children and has an unreliable prognosis. Immediate avulsion treatment is essential to maintain the tooth's vitality and minimize complications. A successful outcome is determined by adequate preservation and early replantation.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A nine-year-old boy reported to the advanced dental care clinic with an avulsed tooth #21 due to a b

BACKGROUND: Regenerative endodontic treatment (RET) has emerged as a biologically based alternative to traditional apexification for managing immature permanent teeth with pulp necrosis. By promoting tissue ingrowth and continued root development, RET aims not only to eliminate infection but also to reinforce structurally compromised roots. Although its clinical use has expanded, evidence regarding the long-term predictability and durability of RET remains limited, as most published studies provide only short- or mid-term follow-up.
