Ultrasonic duplex scanning was used to measure the volumetric rate of the blood flow (VRBF) in the common carotid artery (CCA) during arterial pressure (AP) rise in 46 patients suffering from arterial hypertension. The group of patients (n = 27) with a moderate rise of AP (by 10-20% of the common AP values) did not manifest any changes in the VRBF in the CCA during AP rise. All antianginal drugs except nitrates are also first-line antihypertensive drugs. Their antianginal efficacy has not been evaluated in relation to pretreatment blood pressure. They may aggravate ischemia due to excessive reduction in blood pressure. Until the results of direct comparative studies are available, it is advisable to start treatment of angina pectoris in normotensive and hypotensive patients with other drugs that do not primarily decrease blood pressure. Nitrates are a reasonable choice.

BACKGROUND: Changes in mean perfusion pressure (MPP) from premorbid resting values may contribute to the progression of septic acute kidney injury (AKI).
OBJECTIVES: In patients with septic shock, we aimed to investigate the association of changes from premorbid values with AKI severity and progression.
METHODS: We obtained premorbid resting mean arterial pressure (MAP), central venous pressure (CVP), and MPP, and then recorded data from intensive care unit admission 2 hourly for the first 24 hours to calculate hemodynamic deficits. We recorded 4-hourly creatinine measurements for 96 hours.

The AM-5600 is a new device that simultaneously monitors electrocardiogram (ECG) and noninvasive blood pressure (BP) over a 24-h period.
