Gastric ulcers result from an imbalance between aggressive factors and protective mechanisms within the gastric mucosa. This study evaluates the antioxidative and gastroprotective effects of green-synthesized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using Artocarpus lakoocha leaf extract (ALE) against ethanol-induced gastric injury in mice. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the frequency of IgE sensitization and allergenic capacity of pollen grains of Artocarpus communis, Cecropia peltata and Fraxinus uhdei in allergic rhinitis patients.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study with comparative groups: a rhinitis group and a control group. The three pollen extracts were prepared, and IgE sensitization was assessed using the skin prick test and serum-specific IgE. Allergenicity and clinical relevance were subsequently evaluated using the basophil activation test (BAT) and the nasal challenge test (NCT).

Forty-two per cent of 24 patients with Taeniasis saginata were cured by two-gram dose of a crude aqueous extract of the wood Artocarpus lakoocha, Puag-Haad, while eighty per cent of 25 patients were cured by three-gram dose which is comparable to the results of five-gram dose but had less side-effect. Thus, the three-gram dose of Puag-Haad is recommended in the treatment of taeniasis.

Breadfruit tree (Artocarpus tonkinensis) is used in Laotian folk medicine for the treatment of taeniasis. Breadfruit tree preparations impair in vitro the motility of the cestodes Hymenolepis nana causing their motor excitation, contracture and death. The latter is observed when fairly high concentrations of the preparations (10(-2) = 2.10(-3)) are used. In mice experimentally invaded by H. nana it was shown that the water extraction of breadfruit tree substance is rather less effective than its ethanol extraction and has some purgative action, which increases the therapeutic effect.

Bactrocera umbrosa (Fabricius) is an oligophagous fruit fly of economic importance that infests mainly Artocarpus fruits (Moraceae). We determined the prophylactic effect of both the d-mannose-binding lectin ArtinM extracted from the seeds of Artocarpus integrifolia (jackfruit) and its recombinant counterpart during the course of experimental paracoccidioidomycosis induced in BALB/c mice.
