Diagnosis of Cardiac Amyloidosis in South Asia: Need for a Collaborative Approach from Researchers and Clinicians.

Recent developments in diagnostic approaches for cardiac amyloidosis (CA) have augmented the possibility of its accurate diagnosis. Rising cardiovascular diseases in South Asian countries along with many undiagnosed cases make it important for cardiologists to screen patients for CA. Besides, the increasing susceptibility of amyloidosis patients to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection needs prompt diagnosis and management of CA in the COVID-19 era. With this focus in mind, a review of recent diagnostic approaches and treatment options adapted for CA is outline

High-resolution monitoring of air pollution and climate variability in the Indus-Ganges-Brahmaputra basins: Insights into physical drivers.

The Indus, Ganges, and Brahmaputra river basins are now among the world's most climate sensitive regions, driven by rapid population growth, improper land utilization, extensive land use and land cover (LULC) changes, and worsening air pollution. This study uses several high-resolution and reanalysis datasets, together with the non-parametric statistical techniques and Google Earth Engine (GEE) algorithms, to assess air pollution, climate variability, and their physical drivers across annual, seasonal, monthly, and diurnal timescales from 2010 to 2023. The findings reveal a substantial increas

Prevalence of undiagnosed type 2 diabetes in South Asia: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

PURPOSE: Although South Asia exhibits a considerable burden of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), the numbers of undiagnosed T2DM remains inadequately characterized at the regional level. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to approximate the pooled prevalence of undiagnosed T2DM among the general adult population and to assess country-specific variations in South Asian countries. METHODS: A comprehensive literature search was directed in PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library, ScienceDirect, and Web of Science for studies published between 1994 and 2022. Observational studies reporting th

Safety and efficacy of primaquine in patients with Plasmodium vivax malaria from South Asia: a systematic review and individual patient data meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: The optimal dosing of primaquine to prevent relapsing Plasmodium vivax malaria in South Asia remains unclear. We investigated the efficacy and safety of different primaquine regimens to prevent P. vivax relapse. METHODS: A systematic review identified P. vivax efficacy studies from South Asia published between 1 January 2000 and 23 August 2021. In a one-stage meta-analysis of available individual patient data, the cumulative risks of P. vivax recurrence at day 42 and 180 were assessed by primaquine total mg/kg dose and duration. The risk of recurrence by day 180 was also determine

Place of magistral preparations to continue the treatment if the drug is commercially stopped worldwide? A case report of a 10-year-old child with subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) requiring inosiplex.

Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) is a late-onset and fatal viral disease caused by persistent infection of the central nervous system by measles virus (MeV). We present the case of a 10-year-old child from South Asia affected by SSPE, stabilized with a combination of intrathecal interferon-α2b (INF-α2b) injections and oral inosiplex and how we continued the treatment when inosiplex was commercially stopped worldwide.

Tracking Plasmodium knowlesi Through Fecal DNA for Monitoring Zoonotic Transmission in Wild Macaques Across Southeast and South Asia.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

We conducted the noninvasive surveillance of Plasmodium knowlesi in wild macaques using 4752 fecal samples collected across 9 endemic countries. Parasite DNA was detected in 390 samples (8.2%), with positivity rates ranging from 1.4% to 18.4%. This provides the first field-based evidence that P. knowlesi DNA in feces shed by macaques and present under natural conditions can be detected. These findings validate fecal sampling as a practical and scalable tool for tracking zoonotic-malaria. The results support integration into forest-runoff and rural wastewater surveillance systems, offering new

Major Plant Diseases and Regional Plant Health Priorities in Asia.

Asia supports major food, horticultural, and plantation crops, yet uneven loss data and surveillance capacity hinder continental-scale prioritization of plant diseases. This review integrates FAOSTAT crop statistics, EPPO pathogen occurrence and host records, Scopus affiliation- based publication data, and disease-specific literature to identify regional surveillance and management priorities. Wheat, rice, maize, and potato accounted for nearly three quarters of the documented crop-pathogen intersections, highlighting shared staple-crop vulnerabilities. Rice blast, bacterial blight, sheath bli

Cancer incidence and mortality among older adults in Asia: Estimates for 2022 and projections to 2050.

The acceleration of population ageing across Asia is expected to increase the cancer burden, yet comprehensive region-wide evidence among older adults remains limited. Using GLOBOCAN 2022 estimates, we quantified cancer incidence and mortality (excluding non-melanoma skin cancer) among adults aged ≥ 60 years in 48 Asian countries and five United Nations subregions, with China and India analysed separately, and projected the burden to 2050. In 2022, an estimated 5.7 million new cancer cases and 3.8 million cancer deaths occurred among older adults in Asia, accounting for 59% of all cancer cases

Hepatitis E, a vaccine-preventable cause of maternal deaths.

Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a major cause of illness and of death in the developing world and disproportionate cause of deaths among pregnant women. Although HEV vaccine trials, including trials conducted in populations in southern Asia, have shown candidate vaccines to be effective and well-tolerated, these vaccines have not yet been produced or made available to susceptible populations. Surveillance data collected during 2001-2007 from >110,000 pregnancies in a population of ≈650,000 women in rural Bangladesh suggest that acute hepatitis, most of it likely hepatitis E, is responsible for ≈9.8

Individual- and community-level shifts in mortality patterns during the January 2016 East Asia cold wave associated with a super El Niño event: Empirical evidence in Hong Kong.

Despite the fact that cold weather has been widely documented as a major factor that can elevate the mortality in a subtropical population due to a lack of adaptability, the disastrous impacts from a major cold event in East Asia caused by a super El Niño event in January 2016 have passed largely unreported. In order to minimize the catastrophic risk from such events given ongoing concerns about climate change, as also noted in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 (SFDRR), it is important to evaluate the individual- and community-level shifts in mortality patterns during
