Antibiotic growth promoters virginiamycin and bacitracin methylene disalicylate alter the chicken intestinal metabolome.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Although dietary antibiotic growth promoters have long been used to increase growth performance in commercial food animal production, the biochemical details associated with these effects remain poorly defined. A metabolomics approach was used to characterize and identify the biochemical compounds present in the intestine of broiler chickens fed a standard, unsupplemented diet or a diet supplemented with the antibiotic growth promoters, virginiamycin or bacitracin methylene disalicylate. Compared with unsupplemented controls, the levels of 218 biochemicals were altered (156 increased, 62 decre

Dietary Bacitracin Methylene Disalicylate Improves Growth Performance by Mediating the Gut Microbiota in Broilers.

The growth performance of livestock and poultry has always been a concern. However, much work is currently focused on the selection of breeds and diets to improve the growth performance of livestock and poultry. Furthermore, numerous studies have shown that the gut microbiota is closely related to the growth performance of livestock and poultry. At present, there are many reports on the impact of antibiotic intervention on the structure of gut microbiota. However, there are few reports on the influence of antibiotic intervention on the structure of intestinal microbes and the effect of this ch

[Ureolytic activity in the intestinal tract of layers, effects of bacitracin and flavomycin (author's transl)].

Counting of bacteria, detection of urease-positive bacteria and estimation of bacterial ureolysis influenced by Bacitracin and Flavomycin was done on intestinal contents from different segments of the digestive tract of laying hens. It was concluded that: - the intestinal flora was numerically most important in the caecum and was composed principally of lactobacilli in the crop, gizzard, duodenum, jejunum and ileum, and of lactobacilli and anaerobes in the caecum and colon. - 17% of the total number of intestinal bacteria were urease-positive. - the ureolytic activity was most important in the

Assessing the Risk of Antimicrobial Resistant Enterococcal Infections in Humans Due to Bacitracin Usage in Poultry.

Bacitracin is an antimicrobial used in the feed or water of poultry in the U.S. for the prevention, treatment, and control of clostridial diseases such as necrotic enteritis. Concern has been raised that bacitracin can select for antimicrobial-resistant bacteria that can be transmitted to humans and subsequently cause disease that is more difficult to treat because of the resistance. The objective of the present study was to perform a quantitative risk assessment (QRA) to estimate the potential risk in the U.S. of human infection with antimicrobial-resistant Enterococcus faecalis and E. faeciu

[Problems with identification of beta-hemolytic streptococcus resistant to bacitracin isolated from patients with pharyngitis].

INTRODUCTION: The genus Streptococcus comprises a number of species characterized by a differential pathogenic potential. These bacteria can be considered as members of microbial physiological flora but they can also cause mild infections or severe, life threatening conditions. The majority of infections of streptococcal etiology are caused by beta-hemolysing species. The predominant causative agent of bacterial pharyngitis is Streptococcus pyogenes. This species usually doesn't give rise to any identification difficulties due to the introduction the well determined diagnostic schemes. Problem

Effect of bacitracin methylene disalicylate on turkey poult performance in the presence and absence of stunting syndrome.

This study included a complete factorial arrangement of three dietary levels of bacitracin methylene disalicylate (BMD) (0, 50, and 200 g/ton) and two health conditions (none and stunting syndrome [SS]). One-day-old turkeys were dosed per os with tryptose phosphate broth or a supernatant derived from gastrointestinal tracts of poults with SS. Body weight, feed intake, feed efficiency, water intake, and hydration efficiency were determined at 5, 9, 13, 21, and 27 days of age. BMD at 200 g/ton in the feed significantly improved body weight (P < 0.005) of poults with SS at all ages, and it improv

Revisiting an old antibiotic: bacitracin neutralizes binary bacterial toxins and protects cells from intoxication.

The antibiotic bacitracin (Bac) inhibits cell wall synthesis of gram-positive bacteria. Here, we discovered a totally different activity of Bac: the neutralization of bacterial exotoxins. Bac prevented intoxication of mammalian cells with the binary enterotoxins Clostridium botulinum C2, C. perfringens ι, C. difficile transferase (CDT), and Bacillus anthracis lethal toxin. The transport (B) subunits of these toxins deliver their respective enzyme (A) subunits into cells. Following endocytosis, the B subunits form pores in membranes of endosomes, which mediate translocation of the A subunits in

Loss of Bacitracin Resistance Due to a Large Genomic Deletion among Bacillus anthracis Strains.

Bacillus anthracis is a Gram-positive endospore-forming bacterial species that causes anthrax in both humans and animals. In Zambia, anthrax cases are frequently reported in both livestock and wildlife, with occasional transmission to humans, causing serious public health problems in the country. To understand the genetic diversity of B. anthracis strains in Zambia, we sequenced and compared the genomic DNA of B. anthracis strains isolated across the country. Single nucleotide polymorphisms clustered these strains into three groups. Genome sequence comparisons revealed a large deletion in stra

Mupirocin, fusidic acid and bacitracin: activity, action and clinical uses of three topical antibiotics.

Antibiotics applied to the skin must be formulated in a base that is nonirritant and nontoxic. They may have a narrow or fairly wide spectrum of activity but should produce no local reaction or sensitization; the commensal flora should not be affected unduly. Three antibiotics that have been used topically in humans and animals are fusidic acid, mupirocin and bacitracin, all of which have a narrow antibacterial spectrum. When applied to intact skin, fusidic acid penetrates more rapidly than other antibiotics. Clinically, the frequency of staphylococcal resistance to it and to mupirocin has rem

Bacitracin Methylene Disalicylate Improves Intestinal Health by Modulating Its Development and Microbiota in Weaned Rabbits.

Intestinal infections are a major cause of morbidity and mortality in humans and agricultural animals, especially newborns and weaned animals. Preventive treatments that help weaned animals maintain homeostasis and balance the hindgut microbial populations are desirable. The present study aimed to explore the impact of bacitracin methylene disalicylate (BMD) on the intestinal health by analyzing the intestinal environment, morphology, expression of peptidoglycan recognition proteins (PGRPs), and flora of weaned rabbits. A total of 300 New Zealand weaned rabbits were randomly divided into the f

HexSDF Is Required for Synthesis of a Novel Glycolipid That Mediates Daptomycin and Bacitracin Resistance in C. difficile.

Clostridioides difficile is a Gram-positive opportunistic pathogen responsible for 250,000 hospital-associated infections, 12,000 hospital-associated deaths, and $1 billion in medical costs in the United States each year. There has been recent interest in using a daptomycin analog, surotomycin, to treat C. difficile infections. Daptomycin interacts with phosphatidylglycerol and lipid II to disrupt the membrane and halt peptidoglycan synthesis. C. difficile has an unusual lipid membrane composition, as it has no phosphatidylserine or phosphatidylethanolamine, and ~50% of its membrane is compose

In-feed bacitracin methylene disalicylate modulates the turkey microbiota and metabolome in a dose-dependent manner.

Beginning in 2017, the subtherapeutic use of most antibiotic compounds for growth promotion in food producing animals in the US was prohibited, highlighting the need to discover alternative growth promotants. Identifying the mechanism of action of growth promoting antibiotics may aid in the discovery of antibiotic alternatives. We describe the effects of feeding a subtherapeutic (50 g/ton of feed) and therapeutic (200 g/ton) concentration of bacitracin methylene disalicylate (BMD) to commercial turkeys for 14 weeks, and its effect on turkey intestinal microbial communities and cecal metabolome

Topical application of bacitracin ointment is associated with decreased risk of mediastinitis after median sternotomy.

BACKGROUND: The diagnosis of mediastinitis after open-heart surgery is infrequent but dreaded as it carries a high morbidity and mortality. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact that topical antibacterials would have on the postoperative mediastinitis rate. METHODS: Data were collected from 2455 consecutive patients who underwent sternotomy and cardiopulmonary bypass for both valvar and ischemic heart disease. Prior to 1999, patients (n = 1036) underwent surgery with standard perioperative intravenous antibiotics but no application of bacitracin. After 1999, patients (n = 14

Response of broiler chickens to dietary supplementation with roxarsone and bacitracin methylene disalicylate in diets containing narasin.

Six trials were conducted at different locations to examine the response of broiler chickens to roxarsone and bacitracin in the form of bacitracin methylene disalicylate (BMD) in the presence of the anticoccidal narasin. All diets contained narasin (80 mg/kg) and were fortified with a factorial arrangement of roxarsone (0 to 50 mg/kg) and BMD (0 or 55 mg/kg). Broilers were grown to market weights with narasin and roxarsone removed from the diets for the final 5 days. Addition of both roxarsone and BMD resulted in significant (P less than .05) improvements in body weight and feed utilization. R
