[The correlation study between the changes of intestinal mucosa predominant bacteria and Toll-like receptor 2, Toll-like receptor 4 gene expressions in diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome patients].

Based on high throughput sequencing and PCR detection technology, this study has found out that intestinal microbial diversity was impaired and the quantities of two main bacteria flora (Bacteroidetes and Clostridium) were significantly reduced in patients with diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (D-IBS). Meanwhile mucosal expression of toll-like receptor (TLR) 2 and TLR4 were significantly enhanced, which was inversely correlated with the reduction of Bacteroidetes and Clostridium. Thus, it suggests that D-IBS may be associated with TLR signal transduction triggered by the intestina

Aberrant mucosal immunoreaction to tonsillar microbiota in immunoglobulin A nephropathy.

BACKGROUND: Immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) is the most common glomerulonephritis worldwide, characterized by mesangial polymeric IgA1 deposition. IgAN is believed to develop owing to aberrant mucosal immunoreaction against commensals in the tonsils. However, the exact interrelation between pathogenic IgA and mucosal microbiota in IgAN patients is unclear. METHODS: Biopsy-proven IgAN or recurrent tonsillitis (RT) patients who had undergone tonsillectomy were enrolled. We used 16S ribosomal RNA gene amplicon sequencing with a flow cytometry-based bacterial cell sorting technique) and immun

Gut Microbiota in Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases: A Complex Interplay.

The intestinal microbiota represents the microbial community that colonizes the gastrointestinal tract and constitutes the most complex ecosystem present in nature. The main intestinal microbial phyla are Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Actinobacteria, Proteobacteria, Fusobacteria, and Verrucromicrobia, with a clear predominance of the two phyla Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes which account for about 90% of the intestinal phyla. Intestinal microbiota alteration, or dysbiosis, has been proven to be involved in the development of various syndromes, such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, Crohn's dise

Alterations in the diversity, composition and function of the gut microbiota in Uyghur individuals with sarcopenia.

BACKGROUND: Research on the gut microbiota has emerged as a new direction for understanding pathophysiologic changes in diseases associated with aging, such as sarcopenia. Several studies have shown that there are differences in the gut microbiota between individuals with sarcopenia and without sarcopenia. However, these differences are not consistent across regions and ethnic groups, and additional research is needed. METHODS: In this study, we collected fresh fecal samples from 31 Uyghur individuals with sarcopenia and 31 healthy controls. We used 16S rRNA sequencing to obtain fecal base se

Differential utilization patterns of dissolved organic phosphorus compounds by heterotrophic bacteria in two mountain lakes.

Although phosphorus limitation is common in freshwaters and bacteria are known to use dissolved organic phosphorus (DOP), little is known about how efficiently DOP compounds are taken up by individual bacterial taxa. Here, we assessed bacterial uptake of three model DOP substrates in two mountain lakes and examined whether DOP uptake followed concentration-dependent patterns. We determined bulk uptake rates by the bacterioplankton and examined bacterial taxon-specific substrate uptake patterns using microautoradiography combined with catalyzed reporter deposition-fluorescence in situ hybridiza

Goldfish growth inhibition and gut microbial community shift induced by exposure to carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes.

Exposure to carbon nanotubes may hinder animal growth. Gut microbiota is closely associated with lipid metabolism in animals, yet its role in the growth impairment of fish induced by carbon nanotubes remains unclear. In this study, juvenile goldfish (Carassius auratus) was exposed to 0-1000 μg/L carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT-COOH) for four weeks to find the correlations between gut microbial community and the induced toxicities. MWCNT-COOH was found to induce histopathological and oxidative damages to liver. The weight of fish body and liver decreased after the MWCNT-COOH e

Comparison of the Intestinal Microbiota of Patients with Urticaria and Healthy Controls: The Role of Blastocystis.

Urticaria is a skin disorder characterized by erythematous, edematous, and pruritic lesions. Intestinal microorganisms can trigger various immunological responses, and Blastocystis has been suggested to affect gut-associated lymphoid tissue homeostasis and induce allergic reactions. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Blastocystis on the intestinal microbiota in patients with urticaria. A total of 33 patients diagnosed with urticaria and 34 healthy controls were included. Independent sample t-tests, Welch's t-tests, or Mann-Whitney U tests were applied to assess differences in the Shann

Letrozole and the Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shaofu Zhuyu Decoction, Reduce Endometriotic Disease Progression in Rats: A Potential Role for Gut Microbiota.

We previously showed that the Chinese herbal medicine, Shaofu Zhuyu decoction (SFZYD), shrank the size of endometriotic lesions in rats with endometriosis. We therefore conducted the present study to investigate the effects of letrozole and SFZYD on gut microbiota in endometriotic rats. Rats were divided into four groups: a blank group, model group, letrozole group, and SFZY group. Ectopic lesion size and COX-2 expression in the endometrium and endometriotic lesions were compared, and the community of gut microbiota was detected using 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Both letrozole and SFZYD reduced

Core gut microbes Cloacibacterium and Aeromonas associated with different gastropod species could be persistently transmitted across multiple generations.

BACKGROUND: Studies on the gut microbiota of animals have largely focused on vertebrates. The transmission modes of commensal intestinal bacteria in mammals have been well studied. However, in gastropods, the relationship between gut microbiota and hosts is still poorly understood. To gain a better understanding of the composition of gut microbes and their transmission routes in gastropods, a large-scale and long-term experiment on the dynamics and transmission modes of gut microbiota was conducted on freshwater snails. RESULTS: We analyzed 244 microbial samples from the digestive tracts of f

Microbiome analysis of serum extracellular vesicles in gestational diabetes patients.

AIM: Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is among the most common complications during pregnancy, posing serious risks to both the patient's and offspring's health and well-being. Alterations in the maternal microbiome are closely associated with the pathogenesis of GDM, with Extracellular Vesicles (EVs) facilitating communication between microbiota and the host. However, little is known about the relationship between the microbial composition within EVs and the pathogenesis of GDM. Therefore, this study aims to characterize the microbiota within serum EVs of GDM Patients (GDM group) and to id

Cassava foliage affects the microbial diversity of Chinese indigenous geese caecum using 16S rRNA sequencing.

Geese are extremely adept in utilizing plant-derived roughage within their diet. However, the intestinal microbiome of geese remains limited, especially the dietary effect on microbial diversity. Cassava foliage was widely used in animal feed, but little information is available for geese. In this study, the geese were fed with control diet (CK), experimental diet supplemented with 5% cassava foliage (CF5) or 10% (CF10) for 42 days, respectively. The cecal samples were collected after animals were killed. High-throughput sequencing technology was used to investigate the microbial diversity in

Temporal and spatial variation of fermentation function, microbiota characteristics and expression of VFAs transporter genes in the ruminant stomach of Tibetan sheep during different phenological phase.

The gut microbiota in Tibetan sheep's ruminant stomach varies across phenological phases, influencing nutrient absorption and adaptation. During the green grass period, acetic, propionic, and butyric acid concentrations in the rumen were higher than in the regreening and withered grass periods (P < 0.05). MCT1 expression peaked during regreening. Bacteroidetes dominated during the withered grass period (P < 0.01), with Rikenellaceae_RC9_gut_group and Prevotella most abundant in the rumen. Spatially, rumen VFA concentrations and MCT1 expression were significantly higher than in other stomachs (
