Monkeypox is a zoonotic viral infection with significant public health implications. Since epidemiological data are typically reported in discrete time intervals and public health interventions are implemented at specific decision points, discrete-time models provide a natural and policy-relevant modeling framework. Although numerous mathematical models for Mpox have been developed using differential equations, discrete-time approaches remain relatively unexplored, despite their practical importance. In this study, we introduce a discrete-time framework for Mpox by constructing a nonstandard f

This research presents a fractional epidemiological model utilizing the standard incidence rate to characterize the transmission dynamics of aquatic infectious diseases like cholera. The framework incorporates a vaccinated compartment to assess preventive measures. We analytically derive both disease-free and endemic equilibrium states and compute the basic reproduction number. The human population is modeled as a time-dependent variable, and we construct a positively invariant domain for the solution space, demonstrating boundedness and nonnegativity of solutions. For the disease-free equilib

In this paper we explore the impact of latency delay and infection by Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the environment on the spread of tuberculosis in a population. We first derive a delay differential equation model with environmental indirect transmission. We address the well-posenedness and identify the basic reproduction number R0 of the model. We then discuss the equilibria and their stability in terms of the composite threshold parameter R0 which determine whether or not the tuberculosis will go extinct of persist in the popolaiton: the disease free equilibrium is globally stable if R0<1,

In this paper, the dynamic behaviors of tuberculosis in the context of indirect environmental transmission are discussed by establishing the SEIRB epidemic model. The basic reproduction number is computed by employing the next-generation matrix approach. The global stability of disease-free equilibrium and endemic equilibrium is proved by constructing the Lyapunov function and the application of LaSalle's invariance principle. It shows that when the basic reproduction number is greater than 1, tuberculosis will spread among the population. When the basic reproduction number is less than 1, tub

It is eminent that the epidemiological patterns of dengue are threatening for both the global economy and human health. The experts in the field are always in search to have better mathematician models in order to understand the transmission dynamics of epidemics models and to suggest possible control or the minimization of the infection from the community. In this research, we construct a new fractional-order system for dengue infection with carrier and partially immune classes to visualize the intricate dynamics of dengue. By using the basics of fractional theory, we determine the fundamenta

In this paper, a malaria transmission model with sterile mosquitoes is considered. We first formulate a simple SEIR malaria transmission model as our baseline model. Then sterile mosquitoes are introduced into the baseline model. We consider the case that the release rate of sterile mosquitoes is proportional to the wild mosquito population size. To investigate the impact of releasing sterile mosquitoes on the malaria transmission, the dynamics of the baseline model and the models with the sterile mosquitoes are discussed. We derive formulas of the reproductive numbers and explore the existenc

This paper presents a mathematical model for malaria--schistosomiasis co-infection in order to investigate their synergistic relationship in the presence of treatment. We first analyse the single infection steady states, then investigate the existence and stability of equilibria and then calculate the basic reproduction numbers. Both the single-infection models and the co-infection model exhibit backward bifurcations. We carrying out a sensitivity analysis of the co-infection model and show that schistosomiasis infection may not be associated with an increased risk of malaria. Conversely, mala

In low tuberculosis (TB) burden settings, recurrent tuberculosis is predominantly driven by relapse. Relapse, defined as the recurrence or re-emergence of a disease or condition after a period of remission or apparent recovery, poses a significant global public health challenge. The variability in the duration of infection and relapse stages among individuals calls for a rigorous mathematical framework to evaluate the impact of this heterogeneity on disease transmission dynamics. To address this, we develop a general integral equation model tailored to low TB burden settings, incorporating arb

Brucellosis, a zoonotic infectious disease caused by the Brucella genus, remains a significant global public health concern, with Inner Mongolia, China, being a notable hotspot affecting both human health and livestock. In response to this, we developed a dynamic SEIVWShIahIch model to simulate the transmission of brucellosis in Inner Mongolia. We calculated the basic reproduction number (R0 = 2.86), indicating a severe epidemic trend with cases expected to increase over the coming decades. The model was fitted to human brucellosis data, and key transmission parameters were estimated to predic

The biological processes involved in diseases like human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and tuberculosis (TB) require extensive research, particularly when both diseases occur together. This piece of research delves to explore a new fractional-order mathematical model that examines the co-dynamics of HIV and TB, taking into account the treatment effects. Although no definitive vaccine or cure for HIV exists, antiretroviral therapy (ART) can slow disease spread and prevent subsequent complications. The basic properties of the fractional model in the Caputo sense, including existence, uniqueness,

Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease caused by Brucella, and it is an important infectious disease all over the world. The prevalence of brucellosis in the Chinese mainland has some spatial characteristics besides the temporal trend in recent years. Due to the large-scale breeding of sheep and the frequent transportation of sheep in various regions, brucellosis spreads wantonly in pastoral areas, and human brucellosis spreads from traditional pastoral areas and semi-pastoral areas in the north to non-pastoral areas with low incidence in the south. In order to study the influence of sheep immigrat

Arbovirus outbreaks in communities are affected by how vectors, hosts and non-competent species interact. In this study, we investigate how ecological interactions between species and epidemiological processes influence the invasion potential of a vector-borne disease. We use an eco-epidemiological model to explore the basic reproduction number R0 for a range of interaction strengths in key processes, using West Nile virus infection to parameterize the model. We focus our analysis on intra and interspecific competition between vectors and between hosts, as well as competition with non-competen

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: In this work, a mathematical model based on differential equations is proposed to describe the propagation of polio in a human population. The motivating system is a compartmental nonlinear model which is based on the use of ordinary differential equations and four compartments, namely, susceptible, exposed, infected and vaccinated individuals.
METHODS: In this manuscript, the mathematical model is extended in order to account for spatial diffusion in one dimension. Nonnegative initial conditions are used, and we impose homogeneous Neumann conditions at the boundary.

Cholera is a water- and food-borne infectious disease caused by V. cholerae. To investigate multiple effects of human behavior change, seasonality and spatial heterogeneity on cholera spread, we propose a reaction-advection-diffusion model that incorporates human hosts and aquatic reservoir of V. cholerae. We derive the basic reproduction number [Formula: see text] for this system and then establish a threshold type result on its global dynamics in terms of [Formula: see text]. Further, we show that the bacterial loss at the downstream end of the river due to water flux can reduce the disease

Asymptomatic transmission of infectious diseases has been recognized recently in several epidemics or pandemics. There is a great need to incorporate asymptomatic transmissions into traditional modeling of infectious diseases and to study how asymptomatic transmissions shift epidemic dynamics. In this work, we propose a compartmental model with asymptomatic transmissions for waterborne infectious diseases. We conduct a detailed analysis and numerical study with shigellosis data. Two parameters, the proportion $p$ of asymptomatic infected individuals and the proportion $k$ of asymptomatic infec

This paper presents a novel epidemiological transmission model of a population affected by two different susceptible-infected-susceptible infectious diseases. For each disease, individuals fall into one of the two susceptibility conditions in which one of the diseases has the highest occurrence level. This model is unique in assuming that: (a) if an individual is infected by one disease, their susceptibility to the other disease is increased; (b) when an individual recovers from a disease they become less susceptible to it, i.e. they acquire partial immunity. The model captures these two assum

Sparse grid interpolation is a popular numerical discretization technique for the treatment of high dimensional, multivariate problems. We consider the case of using time-series data to calibrate epidemiological models from both phenomenological and mechanistic perspectives using this computational tool. By capturing the dynamics underlying both global and local spaces, our algorithm identifies potentially optimal regions of the parameter space and directs computational effort towards resolving the dynamics and resulting fits of these regions. We demonstrate how sparse grid interpolants can be

Motivated by studies warning about a possible re-emergence of poliomyelitis in Europe, we analyse a compartmental model for the transmission of polio describing the possible effect of unvaccinated people arriving to a region with low vaccination coverage. We calculate the basic reproduction number, and determine the global dynamics of the system: we show that, depending on the parameters, one of the two equilibria is globally asymptotically stable. The main tools applied are Lyapunov functions and persistence theory. We illustrate the analytic results by numerical examples, which also suggest

BACKGROUND: The global outbreak of monkeypox (Mpox) in humans has become a substantial public health concern, with over 115,000 confirmed cases across 126 territories worldwide between May 2022 and November 2024. In this context, we examined the basic reproduction number (R0), doubling time, case fatality rate, and inter-country connectivity of ongoing outbreaks documented in Our World in Data portal.
METHODS: Epidemiological parameters R0 and doubling time were examined using a 9-day mean infectious period. Networks were analyzed using correlation and co-occurrence of outbreaks. The disease
