Questions about behavioral function in mental illness (QABF-MI): a behavior checklist for functional assessment of maladaptive behavior exhibited by individuals with mental illness.

The Questions About Behavioral Function (QABF), a 25-item rating scale, was developed to identify the function(s) of maladaptive behavior in individuals with developmental disabilities. The authors adapted it for use with individuals with serious mental illness who engage in maladaptive behavior and assessed the psychometric characteristics of the new scale (Questions About Behavioral Function in Mental Illness; QABF-MI) in a sample of 135 adults with serious mental illness from three inpatient psychiatric hospitals. Staff most familiar with each person rated each item on a 5-point Likert-type

Integrating Eye Tracking and Self-Report for Sensory-Emotion Evaluation of Red Bean and Coix Seed Water: A Complementary Validation Framework.

To examine whether gaze behavior on the rating scale can complement conventional self-report, twenty-four volunteers evaluated three red bean and coix seed water beverages on sensory attributes, EsSense-based emotional terms, and preference, while their fixations on the response scale were recorded using a synchronous area-of-interest design. Two indices were extracted: the questionnaire rating (QR), reflecting the consciously selected score, and the eye tracking-derived rating (ETR), defined as the longest-fixated score option. QR and ETR were strongly correlated (ICC: 0.88-0.89) and produced

Projective Indicators of Underlying Dental Anxiety in Children with Positive Frankl Behavior: A Draw-a-Person Assessment During Caries Removal.

Background: Positive behavior during dental treatment does not necessarily indicate the absence of anxiety in children. Behavioral assessment scales, such as the Frankl Behavior Rating Scale, evaluate observable behavior but may fail to identify underlying emotional tension that may accompany dental treatment. Objectives: To evaluate indicators of underlying emotional tension in children classified as cooperative based on the Frankl Behavior Rating Scale (scores 3 and 4) undergoing conventional caries removal or chemo-mechanical excavation with Brix 3000. Methods: Sixty children aged 4-6 years

The Behavior Problems Inventory: an instrument for the assessment of self-injury, stereotyped behavior, and aggression/destruction in individuals with developmental disabilities.

The Behavior Problems Inventory (BPI-01) is a 52-item respondent-based behavior rating instrument for self-injurious, stereotypic, and aggressive/destructive behavior in mental retardation and other developmental disabilities. Items are rated on a frequency scale and a severity scale. The BPI-01 was administered by interviewing direct care staff of 432 randomly selected residents from a developmental center between the ages of 14 to 91 years. For 73% of those selected, at least one problem was endorsed on the BPI-01. A total of 43% showed self-injury, 54% stereotyped behavior, and 38% aggressi

Correlates of real world executive dysfunction in bipolar I disorder.

BACKGROUND: Bipolar disorder is characterized by impairments in cognitive functioning, both during acute mood episodes and periods of euthymia, which interfere with functioning. Cognitive functioning is typically assessed using laboratory-based tests, which may not capture how cognitive dysfunction is experienced in real-life settings. Little is known about the specific illness characteristics of bipolar disorder that contribute to cognitive dysfunction in everyday life. METHODS: Participants met DSM-IV criteria for bipolar I disorder (n = 68) in a depressed or euthymic state. Everyday execut

Validity and Reliability of Executive Function Measures in Children With Heavy Prenatal Alcohol Exposure: Correspondence Between Multiple Raters and Laboratory Measures.

BACKGROUND: Rating scales are designed to complement traditional performance-based measures, and both can provide useful information about the functioning of youth with histories of prenatal alcohol exposure. Few studies, however, have compared ratings from multiple informants or the relationship between these subjective rating scale scores and the objective results from laboratory performance-based scales. METHODS: The current study addressed both of these questions in 3 study groups: children with histories of prenatal alcohol exposure (n = 47), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADH

French validation of the questionnaire for Impulsive-Compulsive Disorders in Parkinson's Disease-Rating Scale (QUIP-RS).

INTRODUCTION: The management of impulse control disorders (ICDs) in Parkinson's disease (PD) relies on their early identification, allowing adjustment of antiparkinsonian treatment before these manifestations lead to major social, financial or legal consequences. The Questionnaire for Impulsive-Compulsive Disorders in Parkinson's Disease-Rating Scale (QUIP-RS) is an English-developed and -validated PD-specific rating scale constructed to support the rating of ICDs and related disorders and the assessment of changes in symptom severity over time, but it has not to date been validated in French.
