Bisoprolol transdermal patch improves orthostatic hypotension in patients with chronic heart failure and hypertension.

β blockers (BBs) play an important role in heart failure (HF) treatment. However, orthostatic hypotension (OH) is sometimes caused by BBs. The bisoprolol transdermal patch works more slowly and is long acting compared with the bisoprolol fumarate tablet. The risk of OH may be reduced by using the bisoprolol transdermal patch. We evaluated 57 consecutive patients who were taking the bisoprolol fumarate tablet for chronic HF with hypertension from November 2016 to September 2017. We switched the patients to the bisoprolol transdermal patch. Because 12 of 57 subjects could not continue using the

[Efficacy of Transdermal Patch of Bisoprolol for Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation after Open Heart Surgery].

2014 American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) guidelines recommend beta blocker for prevention and management of perioperative atrial fibrillation and flutter for thoracic surgical procedures. In recent years, transdermal patch of bisoprolol (TDPB) has become available in Japan. We examined the efficacy of TDPB for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) after open heart surgery. Among 289 patients who had undergone open heart surgery in our hospital from December 2013 to April 2016, 48(16.6%)patients, for whom TDPB was used for PAF, were analyzed retrospectively. The summary of our PAF p

[Urinary bladder tuberculosis and Bacillus Calmette-Guérin instillation: reduced efficacy of bisoprolol in hypertension].

HISTORY AND ADMISSION FINDINGS: A 71-year-old patient with a superficial carcinoma of the urinary bladder and high risk of recurrence was treated with intravesical instillation of Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) after transurethral resection. As a complication of the catheterization during BCG-instillation therapy the patient suffered from tuberculosis. The patient received a tuberculosis triple-therapy including rifampicin 600 mg once daily, isoniazid 300 mg once daily and ethambutol 400 mg thrice daily. The existing arterial hypertension had successfully been controlled by 3.75 mg bisoprolol

Supraventricular tachyarrhythmias that responded dramatically to bisoprolol transdermal patches in two patients undergoing hemodialysis.

We here report two patients with atrial flutter (AFL) and paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT) who were undergoing hemodialysis and returned quickly to normal sinus rhythm without hypotension when treated with bisoprolol transdermal patches (Bisono® Tape) (TOA EIYO, Tokyo, Japan). Spontaneous rhythm reversion had not occurred prior to these events in either patient. Our findings indicate that Bisono® Tape may be a new and more effective treatment for AFL and PSVT in patients undergoing hemodialysis.

Bisoprolol for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at high risk of exacerbation: the BICS RCT.

BACKGROUND: Observational studies of people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease using beta-blockers for cardiovascular disease indicate that beta-blocker use is associated with reduced risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease exacerbation. However, at the time this study was initiated, there had been no randomised controlled trials confirming or refuting this. OBJECTIVE(S): To determine the clinical and cost-effectiveness of adding bisoprolol (maximal dose 5 mg once daily) to usual chronic obstructive pulmonary disease therapies in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disea

The Effect of Bisoprolol on Premature Ventricular Complex in Vietnamese Patients with Hypertension and Left Ventricular Hypertrophy.

BACKGROUND: Premature ventricular contraction (PVC) is a common arrhythmia that causes a large number of clinical symptoms, adversely impacts the quality of life, and can even initiate serious arrhythmias, such as ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation. The incidence of premature ventricular contraction is higher in hypertensive patients, particularly if concomitant left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is present. OBJECTIVES: This study was conducted on the characteristics of PVC in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy and aimed to evaluate the effect of bisoprol

Differential Effects of the Betablockers Carvedilol, Metoprolol and Bisoprolol on Cardiac Kv4.3 (Ito) Channel Isoforms.

Cardiac Kv4.3 channels contribute to the transient outward K+ current, Ito, during early repolarization of the cardiac action potential. Two different isoforms of Kv4.3 are present in the human ventricle and exhibit differential remodeling in heart failure (HF). Cardioselective betablockers are a cornerstone of HF with reduced ejection fraction therapy as well as ventricular arrhythmia treatment. In this study we examined pharmacological effects of betablockers on both Kv4.3 isoforms to explore their potential for isoform-specific therapy. Kv4.3 isoforms were expressed in Xenopus laevis oocyte

Effects of carvedilol vs bisoprolol on inflammation and oxidative stress in patients with chronic heart failure.

BACKGROUND: Inflammation and oxidative stress play a role in the pathophysiology of chronic heart failure (CHF). Our previous clinical trial, the Bisoprolol Improvement Group for Chronic Heart Failure Treatment Study in Dokkyo Medical University (BRIGHT-D), reported that bisoprolol is superior to carvedilol for myocardial protection in patients with CHF, as demonstrated by high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hsTnT) reduction. The present study was a subanalysis of the BRIGHT-D study that focused on the effects of bisoprolol vs carvedilol on inflammation and oxidative stress in CHF patients.

The mortality benefit of carvedilol versus bisoprolol in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: It is unknown whether different β-blockers (BBs) have variable effects on long-term survival of patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). This study compares the effects of two BBs, carvedilol and bisoprolol, on survival in patients with HFrEF. METHODS: The Korean Acute Heart Failure (KorAHF) registry is a prospective multicenter cohort that includes 5,625 patients who were hospitalized for acute heart failure (AHF). We selected 3,016 patients with HFrEF and divided this study population into two groups: BB at discharge (n = 1,707) or no BB at discha

Antiarrhythmic effect of bisoprolol, a highly selective beta1-blocker, in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.

In the treatment of arrhythmia, beta-blockers are mainly used to regulate the heart rate. However, beta-blockers are also known as drugs with an antiarrhythmic effect due to the suppression of sympathetic activity. We evaluated the antiarrhythmic effects of a highly selective beta(1)-blocker, bisoprolol, in patients with diurnal paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (P-AF). A total of 136 patients with symptomatic diurnal P-AF were enrolled. Patients were divided into a diurnal-specific P-AF group and a diurnal & nocturnal P-AF group, as well as into a bisoprolol single use group and a combined use g

Comparison of casual, ambulatory and self-measured blood pressure in a study of nitrendipine vs bisoprolol.

In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study the antihypertensive efficacy and tolerability of a single morning dose of either 10 mg bisoprolol (n = 26) or 20 mg nitrendipine (n = 27) were investigated. Blood pressure was measured by three techniques: (1) Casual blood pressure 24 h after the dose; (2) ambulatory 24-h whole-day monitoring; and (3) self-recorded blood pressure in the morning 24 h after the dose (6-8 a.m.) and in the evening (6-8 p.m.). After 4 weeks of therapy bisoprolol had produced a highly significant reduction in blood pressure as assessed by causal, ambulatory day- and night

Cu-Co Bimetallic Catalyst-based Electrochemical Sensing Platform for Determination of Bisoprolol in Clinical Samples.

BACKGROUND: Bisoprolol (BIS) is a selective beta-blocker. It has been successfully used to treat hypertension and angina pectoris. An overdose of BIS can lead to serious complications. An overdose is a medical emergency that requires immediate medical attention to overcome the adverse effects of the overdose. Hence, sensitive, reliable, and cost-effective methods are required for the determination of BIS. METHODS: In this work, a new electrochemical sensing platform based on a bimetallic catalyst was developed for the determination of BIS. The Cu-Co nanocatalyst was easily synthesized by galv

Real-world safety profile of bisoprolol: signal detection and demographic stratification using the FAERS database.

Bisoprolol, a selective β₁-blocker, is widely prescribed for cardiovascular disease. Real-world pharmacovigilance can clarify adverse drug reactions (ADRs) across demographic strata and identify signals not fully characterized in trials. We analyzed bisoprolol-associated reports in the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System. Disproportionality was assessed using complementary algorithms-reporting odds ratio (ROR), proportional reporting ratio (PRR), information component (IC with IC025), and empirical Bayes geometric mean (EBGM with EBGM05). To stabilize sparse strata, we required a ≥ 3 and multi-

Bisoprolol protects myocardium cells against ischemia/reperfusion injury by attenuating unfolded protein response in rats.

Bisoprolol (B) exerts potential cardioprotective effects against myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. Unfolded protein response (UPR) attenuates I/R injury induced apoptosis by reducing oxidative damage and inflammation response. The current study investigated whether the protective effects of bisoprolol resulted from modulating UPR and anti-inflammatory during myocardial I/R condition and elucidated its potential mechanisms. Sprague-Dawley rats were treated with B in the absence or presence of the injected UPR activator dithiothreitol (DTT) and then subjected to myocardial I/R surger
