BACKGROUND: Bisphenol exposure during pregnancy has been linked to a range of adverse reproductive outcomes. However, the full extent of the effects of bisphenol analogs, particularly bisphenol A (BPA), bisphenol S (BPS), and bisphenol F (BPF), on fetal development, especially anogenital distance (AGD), a sensitive marker of reproductive development, remains unclear. We conducted this research to investigate association among maternal and neonatal urinary bisphenol analogs (BPA, BPS, BPF) and AGD.
METHODS: This prospective cohort study enrolled 85 mother-newborn pairs in Bangkok, Thailand, fr

An extraction-preconcentration procedure based on the use of a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) as selective sorbent has been developed for the determination of several phenolic compounds (bisphenol-A, bisphenol-F and 4-nitrophenol) and phenoxyacid herbicides (2,4-D, 2,4,5-T and 2,4,5-TP) in honey samples. Liquid chromatography with diode array detection (LC-DAD) and electrospray ionisation-ion trap mass spectrometry (LC-IT-MS) were used for the separation, identification and quantification of these analytes. The molecularly imprinted polymer was obtained by precipitation polymerisation wit

Widely used personal care product (PCP) chemicals can disrupt the function of thyroid hormones. Pregnancy-induced vulnerability heightens the risk of PCPs on maternal thyroid health, but their individual, joint, and longitudinal impacts have been underexplored. Moreover, the risk assessment regarding maternal thyroid-impairing effects of PCPs has been lacking from epidemiological and mechanistic insights. In this study, we conducted an integrated risk assessment of PCPs on maternal thyroid functions, synthesizing evidence from 47 epidemiological, 18 in vivo, and 19 in vitro evidences from four

This study investigated the relationship between maternal behaviours, environmental exposures, and the levels of melamine and bisphenols (BPs), including bisphenol F (BPF), bisphenol A-F (BPAF), and bisphenol S (BPS), in breast milk. Mothers provided information on cosmetic use, food packaging, and dietary habits, while breast milk samples were analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography. BPAF, BPS, and BPF were detected in 32.3%, 33.8%, and 20% of samples, respectively, while melamine was present in all samples (mean: 32.3 ± 16.7 ng/mL). Seven samples (10.8%) contained all three BPs

Resoles are multifarious pre-polymeric resins produced by the condensation of basic chemicals phenols, formaldehyde and optionally aliphatic alcohols like butanol. They are widely used as cross-linkers to form resistant internal coatings on metal surfaces of cans, containers or closures. Although the application of resoles is common in food contact, usually little is known about their exact composition, the toxicological hazards of their individual constituents and the migration of phenolic compounds, e.g., of the potentially endocrine-disrupting chemical bisphenol F. Our study fills major gap

BACKGROUND: Bisphenols and triclosan are considered as potential thyroid disruptors. While mild alterations in maternal thyroid function can result in adverse pregnancy and child developmental outcomes, there is still uncertainty whether bisphenols or triclosan can interfere with thyroid function during pregnancy.
OBJECTIVES: We aimed to investigate the association of urinary bisphenol A (BPA), bisphenol S (BPS), bisphenol F (BPF) and triclosan with early pregnancy thyroid function.
METHODS: This study was embedded in the Swedish Environmental Longitudinal, Mother and child, Asthma and aller

Environmental concerns have intensified due to the widespread use of bisphenol analogues as BPA alternatives. In this study, we assessed the toxicity of Tetramethyl Bisphenol F (TMBPF) on Daphnia magna and investigated the underlying mechanisms, at multiple biological levels, encompassing transcriptomic pathway alterations, growth and reproductive impairment, and behavioral changes. The 48 h EC50 was 1.30 mg/L, which is lower than that of BPA, BPF, BPS, and BPAF. The 21 d NOEC for reproduction was 0.20 mg/L, classifying TMBPF as a GHS Category 2 chronic aquatic toxicant. Transcriptomic analysi

A molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP), obtained by precipitation polymerisation with 4-vinylpyridine as the functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as cross-linker, and bisphenol-A (BPA) as template, was prepared. The binding site configuration of the BPA-MIP was examined using Scatchard analysis. Moreover, the behaviour of the BPA-MIP for the extraction of several phenolic compounds (bisphenol-A, bisphenol-F, 4-nitrophenol, 3-methyl-4-nitrophenol) and phenoxyacid herbicides such as 2,4-D, 2,4,5-T and 2,4,5-TP has been studied in organic and aqueous media in the presence of other pe

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Obesity and its associated metabolic diseases are increasing globally. Sedentary lifestyle, high caloric diet, and genetic predisposition are known to contribute to the onset of obesity. It is increasingly recognized that exposure to environmental chemicals such as Bisphenol A (BPA) may also play a significant role. BPA has been correlated with an array of adverse health effects, including obesity and metabolic disorders. Due to public concern, manufacturers are replacing BPA with structural analogues for which there is limited toxicological data. The objective of this s

BACKGROUND: Human and animal exposure to bisphenol A (BPA) has been associated with adverse developmental and reproductive effects. The molecular mechanisms by which BPA exposure exerts its effects are not well-understood, even less known about its analogues bisphenol F (BPF). To address these knowledge gaps, we conducted an untargeted metabolome-wide association study (MWAS) to identify metabolic perturbations associated with BPA/BPF exposures in a pregnant African American cohort.
METHODS: From a subset of study participants enrolled in the Atlanta African American Maternal-Child cohort, we

Prenatal exposure to bisphenol analogues (BPs) has been suggested to impair fetal growth and increase obesity risk in future life. However, the mechanisms remain unclear. Based on the Shanghai-Minhang Birth Cohort Study, this study aimed to investigate the associations between prenatal exposure to BPs and placental DNA methylation (DNAm) at thyroid hormone (TH)-related genes and explore whether these epigenetic modifications mediated the effects of BPs on offspring adiposity. The participants were recruited between April and December 2012 from the Minhang Maternal and Child Health Hospital in

This study developed and validated a simplified QuEChERS-based isotope dilution ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (ID-UPLC-MS/MS) method for the simultaneous quantification of neonicotinoids (NEOs), parabens (PBs), and bisphenols (BPs) in meat products. Twenty-seven fresh and thirty processed meat samples collected in Taiwan were analyzed by the validated ID-UPLC-MS/MS method with isotope dilution to determine seven NEOs, nine PBs, and five BPs, achieving low limits of detection (0.00015-0.194 ng/g ww) and acceptable recoveries (83-105 %). BACKGROUND: Bisphenol A (BPA) is a well-known endocrine disrupter used in several consumer products. Restricted use of BPA has led to increased use of bisphenol F (BPF) and bisphenol S (BPS). While previous studies found no associations between prenatal BPA and BPF exposure and bone mineral density (BMD), two recent cohort studies found that prenatal BPS exposure was negatively associated with bone mineral density in the offspring.
AIM: To determine possible associations between maternal and child urinary bisphenol concentrations, BMD and bone mineral content (BMC) in 7-year-old healthy child

The thyroid disrupting chemicals (TDCs) have raised great concerns due to their adverse impacts on thyroid hormones (THs). In this study, we investigated the thyroid-disrupting effects of bisphenol F (BPF) and bisphenol S (BPS), two major BPA substitutes, on adult zebrafish (Danio rerio). Firstly, anti-transthyretin (TTR) monoclonal antibody (anti-TTR mAb) was prepared and used to establish an indirect ELISA, which had a working range of 15.6∼1000 ng/mL of a detection limit of 6.1 ng/mL. The immunoassays based on anti-TTR mAb showed that exposure to BPF (10 and 100 μg/L) and BPS (100 μg/L) sig

BACKGROUND: Given policy regulations restricting bisphenol A (BPA) in food-related products, and consumer concerns about adverse health effects, newer bisphenols such as bisphenol F (BPF) and bisphenol S (BPS) have been developed. Exposure to BPA has been linked to dietary behaviors and poor health outcomes.
OBJECTIVES: We sought to examine how the Healthy Eating Index (HEI) and its 13 subgroups, the healthy American diet, the Mediterranean diet, the vegetarian diet, and other dietary quality behaviors are related to BPA and the newer substitutes in a representative sample of US adults.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a well-known endocrine disruptor, widely used in various consumer products and ubiquitously found in air, water, food, dust, and sewage leachates. Recently, several countries have restricted the use of BPA and replaced them with bisphenol S (BPS) and bisphenol F (BPF), which have a similar chemical structure to BPA. Compared to BPA, both BPS and BPF have weaker estrogenic effects, but their effects on human reproductive function including endometrial receptivity and embryo implantation still remain largely unknown. We used an in vitro spheroid (blastocyst surrogate) co-cul
