Spending time outdoors may bolster mental health via relaxation and physical activity. Yet, most studies use self-report and involve majority White samples from higher income areas. Findings may not hold true using device-derived measurement, among minoritized participants, or in low-income neighborhoods. Our objectives were to test whether: i) time spent outdoors in physical activity is associated with mental health; ii) the effect is modified by the positive or negative outdoor conditions (amount of greenness or vacant houses/lots encountered while outdoors); iii) there is a correlation betw

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this systematic review is to identify, appraise, and synthesize the best available evidence on the effectiveness of opioid substitution treatment in reducing HIV risk behavior among African, Caribbean, and Black people.
INTRODUCTION: Substance use plays an important role in HIV transmission among Black people by increasing risky sexual behavior and the risk of HIV acquisition. Opioid substitution treatment, such as methadone maintenance treatment and buprenorphine therapy, has been found to be an effective measure to minimize HIV transmission attributable to opioid

BACKGROUND: There are disparities in health behaviors across racial and ethnic groups. However, limited studies focus on cancer survivors' experiences developing and maintaining healthy behaviors, particularly in non-Hispanic Black (NHB) and Hispanic people.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to understand the experiences of NHB and Hispanic people affected by cancer in developing and maintaining positive health behaviors beyond a cancer diagnosis.
METHODS: The data were collected in a mixed-method study through semistructured interviews with 29 NHB and Hispanic cancer survivors between June and Oc

BACKGROUND: Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) significantly impact quality of life, particularly among Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic communities in the UK, who face disproportionate burdens and barriers to care. Despite growing recognition of ethnic health disparities, there is limited understanding of interventions tailored to these populations. This scoping review aimed to map the existing literature on interventions for MSDs among Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic groups in the UK, identifying key approaches, gaps, and opportunities for culturally appropriate healthcare delivery.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic response in many jurisdictions included efforts to depopulate correctional facilities. In the context of the overrepresentation of Indigenous and Black people in Canadian correctional facilities, we aimed to assess COVID-19 impacts on decarceration by race and Indigenous identity in Ontario, Canada.
METHODS: We accessed correctional administrative data for all people incarcerated in provincial correctional facilities in Ontario, Canada between 2015 and 2022. We categorized people using self-reported data into one of five identity groups: Indigenous, non-Indig

INTRODUCTION: Cannabis and alcohol are the most frequently used substances among Black sexual/gender minority people, and co-use of these substances is surging. Little work exists on the association of cannabis/alcohol co-use with HIV prevention and care engagement in this population. The authors examined daily associations of cannabis/alcohol co-use with pre-exposure prophylaxis and antiretroviral medications use, in the context of hazardous alcohol and cannabis use, among Black sexual/gender minority.
METHODS: Daily use of cannabis, alcohol, and pre-exposure prophylaxis/antiretroviral medic

INTRODUCTION: Racially and linguistically concordant doula care has reduced disparities in maternal morbidity and mortality rates for Black birthing people. This mixed-methods pilot implementation study assessed the feasibility of implementing and maintaining a novel partnership between a community doula organization led by 2 Black doulas and an urban academic tertiary care hospital.
METHODS: The Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, and Maintenance framework was used to design and evaluate implementation. Black birthing people were recruited from the hospital's midwifery and genera

BACKGROUND: Blood donation supports critical treatments; however, Black people in Canada face multiple barriers to donating blood. We aimed to explore these barriers to better understand how to enhance donor diversity and equitable health care access.
METHODS: We conducted a qualitative study with semi-structured in-depth interviews with Black adults living in Canada. We recruited participants through social media and community organizations. We transcribed, coded, and thematically reviewed interviews using NVivo software. We used Braun and Clarke's 6-step thematic analysis, ensuring cultural

Despite growing recognition of racism as a public health crisis, racial trauma remains inconsistently defined and under researched. This scoping review investigates how racial trauma is conceptualized in empirical literature, focusing on its manifestations and long-term health impacts among Black individuals and communities in the United States and Canada. Guided by the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology for conducting scoping reviews, we systematically searched ten multidisciplinary databases and identified 29 empirical studies published between 2000 and 2025. Most included studies were cond

Background Black individuals have a higher burden of risk factors for heart failure (HF) and subclinical left ventricular remodeling. Methods and Results We evaluated 1871 Black participants in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study cohort who attended a routine examination (1993-1996, median age 58 years) when they underwent echocardiography. We estimated the prevalences of 4 HF stages: (1) Stage 0: no risk factors; (2) Stage A: presence of HF risk factors (hypertension, diabetes mellitus, obesity, smoking, dyslipidemia, coronary artery disease without clinical myocardial infarction),

PATIENTS AND METHODS: We underwent a retrospective study of five cases of testicular cancer in undescended testis. The parameters of study were: age at diagnosis, circumstances of diagnosis, values of tumour markers, and pathological aspects of tumours after removal. The data were studied using the medical records of patients.
RESULTS: Mean age was 30, 6 years (27; 34). Only 1 patient had a child at the time of diagnosis. All patients came to our clinic for a general state impairment associated to an abdominal palpable mass. The increase of the value of tumour markers was not constant. A caps

AIMS/HYPOTHESIS: Excess type 2 diabetes mellitus in minority ethnic groups remains unexplained, although greater fat mass makes a strong contribution. We hypothesised that height and weight through infancy in South Asian and Black African/Caribbean subgroups is more adverse than in White populations. These, allied to poor socioeconomic position, determine greater fat mass at age 7 years.
METHODS: We report a secondary analysis from the UK Millennium Cohort Study, including 12,280 births of White ethnicity, and 358 of Indian, 650 of Pakistani, 268 of Bangladeshi, 163 of Black Caribbean and 277

BACKGROUND: Stigma surrounding opioid use disorder (OUD) and medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), such as methadone, remains a significant barrier to care, despite the effectiveness of MOUD. Intersectional stigma tied to addiction, methadone treatment, structural racism, and classism disproportionately affects minoritized people with OUD, with direct consequences for health and wellbeing. Less is known about how Black and Latine people in methadone treatment think about and experience various dimensions of stigma related to addiction and the social determinants of health.

BACKGROUND: Internationally, rates of severe maternal morbidity (SMM) are consistently higher among Black people than White people; however, in Canada, such disparities remain poorly understood. We sought to assess racial inequities in SMM among Black and White people in Canada.
METHODS: We conducted a population-based cohort study of in-hospital live births in Canada (excluding Quebec) from 2012 to 2023 using a Statistics Canada data set linking hospitalization and Census data. We included people who self-identified their race as Black or White. We defined SMM as a composite of diagnoses and

The 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (25OHD3) deficiency in chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with immune system dysfunction (pro-inflammatory cytokines storm) through macrophages renal infiltration, oxidative stress (OxS) damage and athero-thromboembolic risk. Conversely, cholecalciferol supplementation (25OHD-S) prevents kidney fibrosis by inhibition of vascular calcification and nephrotic apoptosis (nephrons reduction). The objective of this study was to investigate the pleiotropic effects of 25OHD-S on immunomodulation, antioxidant status and in protecting against thromboembolic events in def
