OBJECTIVE: This study emphasizes the importance of appropriately evaluating incidental findings (IF) detected in chest computed tomography (CCTs) of patients with trauma and provides related guidance and information.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: All patients aged ≥ 18 years who were admitted to the emergency department and underwent CCT for thoracic trauma were retrospectively screened, and 567 patients were included in the study. The findings were divided into five groups: those requiring immediate intervention, clinical evaluation, additional examination, and control examination after follow-up an

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare hematological malignancy characterized by the proliferation of plasmacytoid dendritic cells with a blast-like appearance. It usually presents in elderly people, and clinical manifestations include nodular blue-violet skin lesions, bone marrow infiltration and, less frequently, extramedullary involvement. Gynecological manifestation (breast mass and exocervical lesion) is an unusual and rare presentation. Herein, we report the case of a 51-year-old woman patient who presented with a history of a rapidly growing and bleeding breast m

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare hematologic malignancy, especially in pediatrics, that can involve the bone marrow, skin, lymph nodes, and central nervous system (CNS). Given its variable clinical presentation, coupled with an immunohistochemistry pattern (CD4, CD56, TCF4, TCL-1, and CD123 positivity) that differs from other myeloid neoplasms, the diagnosis of BPDCN can be missed. Limited data are available to guide the treatment of pediatric BPDCN. Herein, we report a case of a pediatric patient who had BPDCN with central nervous system, orbital, and skin involv

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN), previously known as natural killer (NK) cell leukemia/lymphoma, is categorized by the World Health Organization as a sole entity. Most often, BPDCN presents with features of both lymphoma and leukemia. The average age at diagnosis is 60 to 70 years and there are more men than women who are diagnosed with BPDCN. Herein we report a 67-year-old female with a recent peripheral blood morphology revealing a hematopoietic leukemia process. Flow cytometry revealed an atypical cell population without B-cell or T-cell lineage expression. It was posit

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare and aggressive leukemia for which we developed a nationwide network to collect data from new cases diagnosed in France. In a retrospective, observational study of 86 patients (2000-2013), we described clinical and biological data focusing on morphologies and immunophenotype. We found expression of markers associated with plasmacytoid dendritic cell origin (HLA-DRhigh, CD303+, CD304+, and cTCL1+) plus CD4 and CD56 and frequent expression of isolated markers from the myeloid, B-, and T-lymphoid lineages, whereas specific markers (mye

BACKGROUND: Cutaneous CD4+CD56+ malignant tumor proliferation was previously called "CD4/CD56 hematodermic neoplasm". However, the most recent studies have shown that the disease develops from plasmacytoid dendritic cells and the tumor has been renamed "Blastic Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cell Neoplasm" (BPDCN). It is an aggressive disease with a poor prognosis and behaves like acute leukemia in the short to moderate term.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A 65-year-old man with no particular history consulted for a left laterocervical lesion of ecchymotic aspect that had appeared one year earlier. Topical co

INTRODUCTION: Today, the "gold standard" of surgical management of benign thyroid disease is still controversy. There are different surgical approaches to the thyroid gland, from a radical, total thyroidectomy to a conservative treatment, lobectomy with or not isthmectomy. In consideration of the more frequent incidence of small carcinomas accidentally founded in the context of the thyroid parenchyma removed for another pathology, the aim of this study is to bring a contribute to resolve the debate on the therapeutic choice in the surgical management of the thyroid benign disease.

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm is a rare, aggressive tumor characterized by skin and/or marrow infiltration by CD4(+) CD56(+) cells. Historically, the tumor was variably thought to arise from either monocytes, T cells or NK cells giving rise to terms such as CD4(+)/CD56(+) acute monoblastic leukemia, primary cutaneous CD4(+)/CD56(+) hematodermic tumor and blastic NK-cell lymphoma. Whilst considerable progress has been made in understanding the histogenesis, the best modality of treatment remains to be defined. We are therefore reporting this case which was successfully treated wi

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare hematologic malignancy composed of immature cells that exhibit plasmacytoid dendritic cell (pDC) differentiation. The diagnosis of BPDCN is often challenging due to its rarity and morphologic and phenotypic overlap with other hematologic malignancies, such as acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The emergence of tagraxofusp, a CD123-directed cytotoxin, and other novel therapies has underscored the importance of accurately diagnosing BPDCN. This review initially outlined the clinical and histopathological features of BPDCN, including patie

BACKGROUND: Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare and aggressive hematological cancer. Due to its low incidence, researchers struggle to gather sufficient prospective data to inform clinical treatment.
OBJECTIVES: We sought to summarize the clinical characteristics and current treatment methods of BPDCN and provide more specific guidance on treatment options.
DESIGN: A systematic literature review using data from 74 Chinese BPDCN patients.
DATE RESOURCES AND METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical manifestations, treatment response, survival outcomes, and

BACKGROUND: Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare, highly invasive malignant neoplasm. There is no universally accepted standard of care because of its rarity and the dearth of prospective research. It is still challenging for some patients to achieve persistent clinical remission or cure, despite the success of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT), indicating that there is still a significant recurrence rate. We report a case of prevention of BPDCN allograft recurrence by azacitidine maintenance therapy and review the relevant literature.

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare and aggressive hematologic malignancy. It is associated with poor prognosis and heterogenous presentation. The CD123-directed cytotoxin, Tagraxofusp, is a targeted therapy for BPDCN. Here, we report an 81-year-old female diagnosed with BPDCN. The patient was treated with Tagraxofusp and underwent a remarkably long remission (>20 months) without stem-cell transplantation. She, however, experienced blue toe syndrome and left foot gangrene. We postulate that these previously unreported side effects were caused by microembolization. Ch

A healthy 17-year-old boy was diagnosed as having blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN), a rare hematologic malignancy. Vision changes prompted ophthalmology consultation, revealing peripheral field changes, retinal findings, and bilateral optic disc edema. Imaging confirmed bilateral optic neuropathy. This case highlights the potential for pediatric ocular involvement in BPDCN.

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare and aggressive haematological malignancy, typically characterised by cutaneous lesions and bone marrow involvement. We present a unique case of a woman in her 70s, initially seen for a spontaneous swelling on her left external ear resembling a haematoma, which recurred after initial treatment, triggering further evaluation.Diagnostic challenges arose as the patient displayed positive markers for Myeloperoxidase (MPO) (p-ANCA), suggesting vasculitis. Dermatology considered various differential diagnoses, but imaging and tests ruled

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare hematological malignancy derived from the precursors of plasmacytoid dendritic cells. Diagnostic criteria for BPDCN have not been fully established. BPDCN is often diagnosed without other BPDCN markers than the 3 conventional markers (CD4, CD56, and CD123) in practice and case reports, although acute myeloid leukemia/myeloid sarcoma (AML/MS), which is always considered in the differential diagnosis of BPDCN, can express them. We reviewed published case reports on BPDCN and found that the diagnosis was made without any other BPDCN m
